Hi, i'm considering Atlantica, but the truth is that will all this publicity of "we give you money" "come play we rock" it doesn't give me the idea of being a good game but a crapy game with a lot of marketing.
I watched some videos and it looks good... but still i wanted to ask you. Is the combat good? is it fun to play or is just another easy combat system in which you spend more time planning and less time thinking during battle?
And that brings me to the second question: Is this another Grind-a-lot game? One of many in which you stand in from of the PC for hours and hours doing doing exactly the same mob after mob?
Comments
i've been playing it for a while now and so far i couldn't say anything bad about it except that i am very frustrated on having the good items. hahaha! i want the heavenly horse or the byzantine elephant.
regarding the combat detail, it is not like what you think. it is somehow easy but you still have to think on how to defeat your enemies during your in game battle.
And lastly, it is most certainly not a grind-a-lot game. you tend to move a lot because there are many interesting quests unlike, excuse me for name-dropping, RO where you have to kill the same shi* again and again and again.
I hope i somehow enlightened you about the game man and i think this reply is kinda late already. lol!
Thanks for the response, ill give it a try. I just hope is a little more challenging than Wizards 101. It is a fun game, but the combat is far too linear.
And its not late, i posted only a couple of hours ago :P
Its a good game......I think it says alot when a game offers to pay you 20 bucks if you dont like it after awhile.....As for the combat I think its great.....You use alot of different strategies and there are alot of different things for the player to do........ Every battle is different, especially in PVP.....The game plays alot differently from a WOW/EQ/LoTRO type of game and it takes some players time to get used to that...... You get 30 seconds per each turn but often alot happens during that time....You often have alot of decisions to make in a short period of time.......The game isnt for everyone but Id recommend giving it a try......Its only a 2 gig download and its f2p....You have nothing to lose.
For me the combat system is the biggest draw to the game. I love the strategy element to each battle, and it gets very tough when multiple enemies join the battle. When you manage to survive 3 enemy battle groups with all of your mercs dead and just your main left standing, it's quite entertaining.
Can you give an example of the strategy involved?
I tried this game for one day. When I looked at the screenshots, I thought the melee fighters would be in front of the character that attacks from a distance (spells and arrows) to shield them from enemy attacks. When I got in the first fight, I realized when you tell a character to attack an enemy, it moves in front of it, attacks and go back to its original place. Then, it is someone else's turn to attack. Anyone can attack any enemy, even those in the back line! It seems to me that you only pick which enemy you want to attack and which skill you use on them.
I was hoping for a combat map, where you can either move or attack, with possible obstacles to make every fight different, even if you confront the same enemies (i.e. heroes of might and magic style without the square). That is not the case here.
I just want to have an idea of the kind of strategy we are talking here. Since I only tried it at the first level, each of the characters I controlled only had one skill so there was NO strategy involved.
Your melee characters can't attack enemies that are blocked by other enemies. Your ranged archer can, however. Gunners attack 3 enemies in a column. Vikings attack 3 enemies in a row.
I'm no expert (only lvl 43), but for me the strategy lies in taking down the enemies quickly and efficiently with minimal damage to my group. This is especially important when you end up facing 27 or so enemies in one battle (3 battle groups). If you have a merc out front who is close to death you can click the move button and have him swap places with another unit. You might have to figure out which units to have guard in order to free up other units to use on your turn. You have to think about what resists the enemy has when attacking, otherwise you may do little damage. For example, I think it's white ogres that physical attacks barely do any damage to. So you want to use magic attacks against them and save your physical attacks for the blue ogres.
The strategy isn't too apparent in the early game, but as the game goes on you really start to "get it". The magic skills do seem pretty limited at the beginning though. Eventually you'll get more, but thinking through which ones to use for 5 different characters within 30 seconds can be a little overwhelming if you have too many options.
It is not simple as you think, because when your lvl strats to increase you will encounter monsters that are difficult to kill and requires some planning on how you defeatr these monsters... and in pvp you cannot just clik the opponent and attack it you must plan it when you will use your skill when to guard and when yto attack...
