Turbine responded well

considering all the flack I gave Turbine over how they messed up  Minstrels with the Moria expansion I consider it only fair that I make a post announcing I am very pleased with the changes brought about by yesterdays patch. So here's to Turbine and the Minstrel Dev even if he is crappy about communicating, he got the job done.

Just my opinion but I am very happy with the changes. Odd thing though is the one minnie in my kin who had no issues pre patch is dieing a lot. Whereas I have only died once and but  I went right back and changed my strategy a bit  I was able to serve  the mob a large helping of whupass.

Minnies are definitly playable now but you have to think and plan a bit more about various situations and be a bit flexible in your tactics.

I don't have a high level minstrel, but after reading through that thread on the official forums about solo'ing the BIG shard droppers I knew something had to be done about that. A minstrel should be a support class, not a solo arch nemesis boss killer lol.

So after the patch can minstrels still solo the big ones?

I can still solo the big uns just gotta use my head and the right tactics. Soloed a pair of orange siggys 2 lvls above me this morning at the same time. I just had to use the old juggle the mobs tactics, a potion and all of my skills. I have not ran across any even con elite droppers but I am sure I could take one on pretty easily as long as I watch the adds. If you have not a head for tactics though you best stick to a DPS or tank class.

As far as the support class comment goes I won't be there to support anyone if I can't solo when I want or consider the game /class not fun. That support class BS went away with EQ, so you DPS glory lovers types and guardians might as well forget that shit right now ~grin~ as far as I am concerned the guardian and hunter are my support LOL, I can do anything either one of them can except better. I can survive better than the hunter and can kill and juggle adds better than the guardian.

If you want a minnie fopr those raids and 6 man instances the only way we will be there is if we are enjoying the game and can solo effectively. I watched our Kin and we went from having 2 or 3 high level minnies every night  to 1 or none since Moria launched. Thats what happens when somene sticks his head up his butt and reverts to old school EQ1 support class thinking and they (Turbine )tryed to kill our soloing ability.

I must agree with you, Jackdog. If my mini really was just a "support class" I would have ditched him long ago. I'm fine with heal support, but if the mini was not viable solo I would NOT play one. Period.

    thanks

don't get me wrong I will go as far as to swap out gear and traits for a good evening of book questing  and I will stick to straight healing as much as possible. The only damage spells I cast in group will be when I am tiering up for my Anthem of Compassion ( Soon I can trait that as a tier 3 ballad  ) to keep the aggro knocked down or I am tossing out a group buff. And I won't even throw those if we are in the middle of a big old yeeehaaah fight unless I have a LM charging my batteries. But after the group quest is over I wanna go out and farm some hides and do a few solo quests.

    Interesting to hear Jackdog.

Just started the game myself and will be playing a Minstrel (just need to decide on race) after trying a few of the classes out.

I'm glad to hear this. I have a low level minstrel I'd like to dust off and play. I have to say I feel LOTRO devs are  good at listening to their player base. Much better than most other games I've played.

And about the support class thing, it really is no fun being stuck in one role all the time.
