No need to say anymore about the veracity of this rather dismal publicity attempt.

In my opinion they wont let anyone who’s not a friend, a supporter or a member of their community staff beta test this game and do a preview/review of it because if the truth got out it would be disastrous for them.

So regular PC gamer forum sites that earn all their revenues from site advertising and have a deeply vested interest in publishing favourable reviews of any/all games that come their way are more trustworthy? mmm ok....

I find PC gamer to be pretty trustworthy. I don't always agree 100% with their game ratings, but they are generally pretty close.

Here's the reviews, tell me which ones you disagree with:

Take a look at this PC Gamer WAR review. Hardly glowing, and it does spot a lot of the problems:

Wtf is it with Aventurine? Why can't they show their game to REAL gaming sites or magazines?
My prediction: the game is 50% ready with working starter area and smart goblins. Everything else is unfinished and needs about 1 more year to be ready.

nice troll (lol @ you if this isn't a troll post). Srsly why do people complain when we get more info, and then complain that there's no new info when we don't

I'm not trolling and I don't understand why you would think that?

What I'm trying to say I want some REAL information about the game from some OBJECTIVE party. Not some half-assed "preview" by 2 italian forum guys (friends or family) or a cartoonist (friend). A cartoonist?!! You gotta be kidding me!

I've been waiting for DF for about 6 months now but I am slowly starting to reliaze we are dealing with a bunch of real amateurs here. I know this is a indie game but come on.. even indie games can do better than this. How difficult can it be to communicate with the community?

If they DID have almost finished, fun game, they would have shown us more of it already and there would be more information about the release date.  Aventurine just keep using that good old carrot-in-a-stick -method year after year and some people here keep running after that carrot.

When do these MMO companies hire people who actually understand how marketing and PR works?

Wow - a game server with 1% of its target population, lord only knows how many features turned off, hasnt been wiped for about a week - is "stable" and not extremely buggy!  Kudos...if we just exited alpha.

guess you missed the part where she said that they were deliberate server wipes.

she compared DF beta to WAR 1 month after release and said DF was more stable. it's a fair comment.

How is a comparison between the following fair:

War 1 Month after release = hundreds of thousands of players altogether, thousands of players on one server, hundreds and hundreds in the same area. Players having reached end-game already, have experienced a lot of the content.

Darkfall = maybe a hundred testers altogether on one server supposedly capable of supporting 10k at any given time. Nothing has yet been told about anything but the combat system and the basic features. The Beta-Reports themselves state that most of the features are still turned off IIRC.

Please take you time explaining how it is a fair comparison in -any- way?

Small playerbase for the win !

i don't like many of you be in the same place then me. I so hope they sell only to worthy people ...i like how they handle Beta and don't let the trolls in ..

I think server wipes are pretty normal: to change the focus of testing, stop testers from getting too advanced, retest functionality with new features enabled/disabled, etc

Umm... that's a fine stategy for the end of Alpha or the very beginnings of Beta.

But...   Wait a second, let me make that a bit bigger.

BUT... we are 3 weeks away from Release... right?

So, with the understanding that we are 3 weeks away from Release... how is doing server wipes and "stop testers from getting too advanced" a good thing?

Or, perhaps everyone thought that Funcom's strategy of "saving" the "High-End content" as a "surprise" was a good thing?  Heh... yeah that worked out pretty well for everyone didn't it?

But, I'm sure everything is going fine and if they weren't going to be able to Release in 2008 that Tasos would have told us by now.  Seeing as he is so trustworthy and honorable, and above reproach.

Er, and Blizzard opened the WoW beta forums to the public (for viewing only) long before release.

I still don't see anything that I would call 'credible' out there yet regarding Darkfall, however I will admit that I'm somewhat more hopeful for the game than I was a few months ago.

I agree. We have no credible information about the game. Only some crappy screenshots and talk about how smart the goblins are by 2 italian forum mods and a freaking cartoonist.

They are probably still in alpha stage but they just call it beta. There was talk about multiple character wipes. You don't do character wipes at the end of beta. You do them when you change something big. I've been to a couple of betas and while there were wipes at the beginning, there were none at the end of beta.

I agree. Why all this pussyfooting about at this stage of the game? Holding a NDA so close to the supposed release in my experience normally means the truth is somewhat different to the PR they've been preaching... Though, they do claim they will allow us to try before we buy. So if they keep their word this may not be another Funcom misinformation tactic to increase retail sales with a war mount thrown in. So it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I predict release not happening by Dec 31. NDAing the early stage of beta is IMO understandable and normal, because we all know how gamers like to get carried away on forums over minute irrelevant minutia

Does not look like its working to me. Look around and you will see everyone getting carried away over every thing.

Umm no they don't "claim they will allow us to try before we buy" At least not that I've found. If you can find a post from Aaventurine, Tasos, etc actually stating this please post a link. The wording I've seen is they hope to be able to let players try before they buy. I'm guessing the fans took that statement and overhyped it. Course I don't claim to have read evey post from Aventurine over the last 5 years so i might be wrong.

Sorry but Tasos has never lied and you are not entitled to anything.  Thats the point.  You know its true and dont want to admit it.

And we will be in game soon...i would much rather it be delayed to q1 09 if it has to be.  Sorry if you are rooting for it to fail and be just like the AoC and WARs of the world that released too early.

We've already heard that the entire world is built and populate.

    Nice troll though.  Enjoying WoTLK?

Wow your an idiot... We also heard open beta would be finished by the start of december. We also heard two times in the past from Aventurine that the game was ready for beta... One of those statements was from 2005!

The world would be better off if we required proof for claims made. I am not saying aventurine does not have the other areas populated. What I am saying is that it is very stupid to say

"Weve already heard that the entire world is built and populated"

solely from the word of a developer.
