Could DAOC come back?

From many posts, it sounds like DAOC is nearly a ghost town.  However, it was a great game in its day, and in this new era of worsening game designs, DAOC is looking pretty good to me right now.

As Warhammer falters and fails, do you think DAOC might have a resurgence?

I'd love for DAOC to go back to its glory days, Warhammer dosen't hook me like DAOC did, all they would have to do is put Origins server in motion or just give me a deal on War+DAOC sub. Only reason i'm still playing War is since my friends are enjoying it and i'm hoping 1.1 will make the game better. Also hoping the Dwarf Slayer comes in . But honestly I have a hard time believeing it will have a resurgence.

    No.

    Daoc cant come back.

Just like SOE, Funcom with AOC & Turbine with AC2,

Mythic  now sees the average mmorpg player as a dumb kid.

Time to move on with companies which have a clue,

Companies that thinks the average mmorpg player actually have some kind of a brain.

If warhammer starts stagnating and sees any kind of exodus I have a feeling that a good chunk of the players playing WAR will go back to DAoC since it is where they came from.

In the end there's no real way to tell.  They could put out Origins and see if they draw back any people and if it has any longevity attached to it.  Other then that I'm sad to say that I don't think DAoC will ever be what I remember it being.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Gosh, I hope so.  I have a feeling that Origins is being delayed for fear of the impact it might have on Warhammer.  Could be, eh?

It's one of my theories as well.  I think they're holding it back because they don't want to drain population from their newer games and end up looking like they don't know what they're doing since their older game is better.

I don't think so, and if you read the opinions of people who post here in this thread as well as the others you'd realize that what most of us here are looking for is not Warhammer.

DAoC was truly great minus the botters. Warhammer has nothing and to me felt dead in comparison.

Sadly, DAoC never saw much advertising :

I wish they would have just made DAoC2.

This!!!!  I so wish they had remade DAOC and not come out with WAR (or at least had made WAR more like DAOC than WOW.

If they'd make it free to play it could undergo a revitalization of players... or release that Orgins server they were talking about...

But for the long haul, it really needs a huge graphic overhaul to meet today's player expectations.

    Can it?  Yes,

    Will it?  Probably not.

Developers today are fucking idiots.  I wish I could have 1 on 1 conversations with them and ask them what the hell goes on in their tiny dumbass brains.

Sorry, thinking of Origins delay makes me angry.

Back in the day, it was the dev's that started the companies or atleast ran the show. Today, games companies act more like investment firms doing market analysis and then directing the developers to create a game to meet the demand of an excel pie chart.

DAoC died when /leveling killed the noob population and ToA made the game item based.

It would need a sequel to save the game, but Mythic would probably screw up the sequel.

I'd say Dark Age could come back, but only if Mythic or someone else overhauls it and advertises.

Currently everytime somebody talks about Dark Age making a come back its all about old players returning after being unsatisfied with the new games. I personally think if it got a graphics overhaul and some serious patching work, they could bring it back with advertising.

Dark Age has been faltering because it has been lacking with new players, who instead go to WoW for example with their commercials that have celebrities. One of the major pitfalls I see with Mythic is their lack of being out there for people to see. I've watched some of the trailer videos and thought it was amazing, but the only way I found them was being doing some extensive searches through forums and youtube.

Point being Dark Age needs publicity to return to any of its former glory, people are lazy now-a-days and won't figure something out unless it is handed to them by someone famous or is eye catching.

Those are just my opinions however.

P.S. There is a "grass roots" Dark Age revival starting on the Catacombs forum, if anyone wants to check it out.

Unfortunately, it will never happen. The problem is DAoC has reached the point in an MMOs lifecycle known as "old age" where only the die hard and the high level remain. An MMOs vitality is based entirely in its community, and being as how DAoC won't be seeing any marketing, and is seen as "that old game", even if it did a graphical overhaul and brought in Origins, it would never really make a comeback, only prolong its existance for a bit longer. Sadly, WAR ended up being a disaster and a slap in the face to everyone who supported Mythic hoping to see the glory days of DAoC brought back with their, we thought anyway, capable team. I'm not sure I would have wanted to see DAoC 2 either because, honestly, thats all they had to make with WAR, and they screwed it up. I wouldn't want the DAoC name sullied by DAoC 2 being another WoW clone. While I'm sure they still have the same passion for their games as ever, I personally think they've completely lost their way and directoin in their attempt to grab the "mainstream" market. It's just a matter of time before DAoC finds itself in Valhalla (sorry hibbies/albs)

All I want for christmas is DAoC2 lol.  If they took the original game + the Isles expansion (imho the only really good one, no NF ToA DR etc). and updated the graphics/engine. Then just re-release it as DAoC2, I would come back in less than .00001 seconds.  I think many would do the same.  The great thing about this, alot of the coding is already done.  Things such as the storyline and quest line are already in place.  I would probably only take about 6 months to do (I'm probably totally wrong, I know nothing about game development, just what I like) and they would easily blow away WoW's record setting numbers. Will DAoC make a comback, no...Would DAoC2 be a major hit, yes!  Mythic is a good company.  For some reason there's a bandwagon people are jumping onto to bash Mythic.  Even though I hated WAR, I still like Mythic.  So many years of my life have been dedicated to thier games that I could almost never hate them.

As for Mythic should've just made WAR into a DAoC2.  I'm sure that Games Workshop had some say in the development, they wouldn't just hand over thier lisence and let anyone go willy-nilly all over it.  I'm sure they had it in the contract that the game had to feel like a warhammer game, not like a DAoC2...unfortunately.

I give EA/Mythic  somewhere in the 4-7 years from now... Money is money. They had the fan base, they could advertise a bit better, and a sequel has already been proven to work well with the fan base (EQ2).  Now they need another project to expand the empire and keep folks busy. What better game to look at?

    Cross fingers, maybe one day.

Give it new graphics, kinda like Lotr-online just different Characters, an updated UI a better PvM a bit more story there, I mean it is Camelot and all there is tons of possibilities and advertise this game. DaoC would be back and people would love it and of course complain, what is a game without enough qq?

I can't imagine nobody from EA sees that or realise that DaoC offers still a whole lot of possibilities for a second game it is all too obvious. They had to be dumb to let it pass.

Yea i think it could. But it would at least have to have the same combat mechanics as  say Darkfall. The time is over for newer games to keep the the old ten year model. Im sick of lvls and skill bars.

I dont see it being anything more they a huge War battlefield (rvr).

A better crafting system built around the pvp instead of it added like they did with DAOC 1. I was always turned off by the pay to craft system.

Id like to see a huge update to the sieging system. Also something  extrodinary with the building destruction/creation aspects.

Completely new content and lands, new weapons, armour, skills, and creatures, everyone has to start from Level 1, new races, etc... And using the same old engine?  Yes, it would work and work quite well.  Especially for the old DAOC lovers who realize nothing today beats DAOC in its prime.
