MMORPG.com World of Warcraft Correspondent Deboarah Dietrich writes this handy guide to cooking and fishing with a special focus on the Warth of the Lich King expansion.
Cooking and fishing are two of the secondary professions available to players in World of Warcraft. Many people find these worthwhile skills to raise as one can catch fish, which can then be cooked and turned into a great source for stat buffs. Cooking and fishing are excellent professions to level up together. One catches fish, raising the fishing skill and then cooks them up, raising one's cooking skill.
Of course first one must obtain the skill to level up these professions. With the Wrath of the Lich King, there is a new land in the World of Warcraft, Northrend and the maxed out skills in our professions are no longer maxed out. Four fifty is the new three seventy-five.

The old fishing/cooking synergy will work till about level 415 in cooking. Then you will need to do the daily cooking quest in Dalaran. You need level 74 to start doing these quests. The quests rewards include Dalaran Cooking Awards. All recipes above the level of 415 can only be purchased with these Delaran Cooking Awards. Additionally the best, highest return recipes all use Northern Spices. Northern Spices are also rewards from doing the daily Dalaran cooking quest. They can also be purchased with the Dalaran Cooking Awards. If you want to get cooking up to 450, you will be doing these new daily cooking quests. Additionally, these recipes call for meats as well as fish.
I'd like to make a correction... that should be 400, not 415. I'm currently stuck at cooking 398 because I'm in a "dead" green zone where I'm really lucky if I get a point after cooking five things. Also, the Dalaran recipes, which can be bought with the awards, can be used at 400 cooking.
You can start doing the cooking quests though at 350 (from what I've been told) cooking. So the moment you hit 74, get over there and start gathering up those awards. There are a LOT of recipes to buy, and the only way to get them is with awards.
Oh, and keep your Chilled Meat handy...
The recipes I purchased from the trainer remained green until I hit 415. Now they are gray. While it's true you'll be cooking up a lot of fish to get a gain you can level to 415 using trained recipes. Now the only recipes I have that are green are the ones I have purchased using the Dalaran cooking awards from the daily cooking quest.
I'll also add that doing the daily cooking quest gives 150 Kirin tor rep.
I'm pretty sure that the Dalaran daily cooking quest is actually attainable at 71. The trick is getting to Dalaran, which you can't do yourself until 74. But you can get summoned or ported there by someone else, no problem. El's Extreme Anglin' forums report that the dailies are do-able at 70, too.

And yeah, that Kirin Tor rep is nice.
I've got a L70 Warlock, got to Dalaran through a portal, took the cooking quest yesterday. I was able to complete it and hand it in (cook 12 northern stew + jug of wine).
So, you can do the Dalaran cooking Quests from at least 70, who knows , perhaps even lower.
Now could you write a guide to fishing and cooking for wow players?
Honkie's Cooking and Fishing guide for Warcraft:
Take the game cds in hand, and smother them with catsup. Put them in the oven for half an hour at 350, and remove. You now have bait! Now, take the cds and put them on some fishing hooks and head out to your nearest body of water (I used my toilet). Get comfortable, fish away, and don't forget the best part of fishing...the beer!
