Would you give EVE a try with a new server?

altairzqaltairzq Member Posts: 3,811

Hello, I'm curious to know how many people the currently don't play EVE would still try it if a new server would be created.

I know what they say about how you can compete with a veteran in few months specializing in a certain areas, where you will be equal as a veteran, only difference is that the veteran have the same expertise in several other areas, but meaningles in a particular battle.

But this is not what bothers me, what I want is the new server feeling, new alliances, new friends, and all that. I know I would try EVE again in that case.

Woud you?

As someone pointed out in the Eve general discussion (this topic is brought up about once a week there), you would still see just as many problems. Vets of the game would take over (even the younger one's like myself) because they know what to do already. What to train and where to go. It wouldn't take that long until a few alliances control nearly all conquarable (or at least decent) space. They would be the first to get battleships, capitals and supercapitals (as well as the upcoming T3). In my eyes it would be much worse.

And "meaningles in a particular battle" is completely horribly wrong. Anyone who has played Eve knows that veteran FCs are going to know more about the game and its mechanics (as well as stategies) than someone who joined or just recently joined.

Currently Eve is going through a sort of transition period I believe. For a while alliances have been stagnat, just no really doing much but now with different drama boats from all sides you might start to see openings in the world (or galaxy).

Besides nearly all the current players would be against it. Both carebears and hardcore pvpers would be totally against it. The main draw to the game is that there is only one server. For many people that is the only reason they play and really, its one of the biggest reasons as to why I play. Not to mention it would break a lot of Eve's current lore. How can you have two identitcal but different galaxies?

I've trialed EVE two times.  Both times I've come away impressed while at the same time frustrated.

The one aspect I did not like about the game was being ship locked.  It felt more like the ships where the characters and not the character itself.

I would give EVE a serious try (ie. pay for it) if there were some ability to leave the ship and explore planets and such.  This is just an aspect that is attractive to me.

    My worthless 2 cents.

I have read that they would be doing something like this in an upcoming patch.

I completely agree though. I have tried this game acouple times and the biggest thing holding me back is the whole veterens curve, But if they did implament something like this then it woukld def keep my interest for a long time.

They will be releasing their Ambulation patch next year, which allows you to exit your ship and walk around in stations, along with a number of features -in- those stations to make it worthwhile.  It's not avatar combat, but it will allow those people who need to feel attachment to an avatar, some form of.. well.. attachment.

I'm a current EVE player, and if they did something like this, I'd leave the game entirely.

Not what you wanted to hear, but is how I feel.

Unless of course they let us transfer our characters to the new server.

(yes, I know, would defeat your purpose)

I think there is room for a new server if done right.

This post was in the Pub, for the non-EVE players. Diligent mod moved it

'Doing it right' would require a complete revamp of the game.  Does noone remember the Chinese server?  It's been reduced to nothing, because of how many imbalances were in the game if not implemented in the order that they were over -years- of the game being out.

If I recall correctly, a single power-gaming group controlled the Chinese server in a matter of months, due to being able to access certain structures before you were able to access the ships to destroy them.

The only reason people want a new server is so that -they- can be the uber veterans that supposedly 'keep them from playing' the game right now.  The thing is, once they've got the SP on this new server, they'll find out that not only does it not matter.. but that there will be just as many people that are -still- that much better than them, simply because the people that actually stuck it out in the first place will still know that much more about the game than those who decided to wait because of such a stupid reason.

SP doesn't matter.  How much you know about the game does.  By not playing now (if you're interested in the game), all it is hurting is your ability to learn.

I played eve for a little more than 6 months last year and quit. If they released a new server where everyone started out new I would be hard pressed not to join up again. Would be like going back in time and seeing what the game would have been like when everyone first started years ago. Could be fun to start with a clean slate if they do it right at least.

I think that a new server would completely defeat the greatest attractions to the game.  It's the main thing that they advertise (such as the bottom of this current screen) that everyone is on the same server.  Not only would it destroy the lore (I think this was already said) but you wouldn't get any many new people right away.  Eve is continually gaining people, but if they all go onto the other server it will takethem a while to learn correctly and all the veteran players will stay on the original server.  Since everything is trained in real time, it would be pointless to start over on a 2nd server.

i would quit and not play.

I play because it is a single server, with a history and a future.

Ah a new server.. what would that get you?  An already small population cut down the middle.

I currently play EVE.  A new server would accomplish nothing.  The game is too complex to be reduced to "I could be great if only everyone started out at zero with me."  You simply have to spend time in-game in order to learn, whether you are a miner, producer, trader, pvper, etc.  Also, the way to real power in the game has nothing to do with any skills that you can train, or how well you pown, but personal networking skills and the will for greatness.  That's what being a CEO is all about.  CCP has done all they can to marginalize solo players and limit their power.  Their is no skill you can train that will get people to like you, or listen to you, much less obey you.  Start playing, join a corp and work your way up the ladder all the while learning from those that have gone before you.  There is no magic in EVE.
