The reason why I do not play wow (No this is NOT an I hate wow post)

Calintz333Calintz333 Member UncommonPosts: 1,193

I like wow. I belive it is one of the best mmorpg  games out there today. I played the game had 2 level 70s, and quit late last year, sold my account, made the money I spent on it back, and I was done, Simple. Just as if it was any other video game online or not.

I enjoyed it, It was really fun. I think I know part of the reason why a lot of hard core mmo gamers, and a lot of older games do not like WoW

From a personal experience point of view wow does have a much larger 5-15 year old community than most mmoropgs when you weigh it off to the 16-30 year old community. I gotta tell you you will have to look really hard to find another mmorpg with so many kids playing considering the size of the games communities. If you look at GW it  has over 3 million players. But I rarely run into a screaming kid on GW. But in WoW almost every dungeon I did from level 17-60 I ran into imature players that always cried when they did not get drops or simply acted childish. This was one of the main reasons I wanted to leave wow last year.

the second reason Is I simply got tired of it. I played wow I played it for 2 years, Its a FUN game again, I have nothing against it. But after 2 years in a game, you kind of memorize the motions, sure they add more content but you get tired of looking at the same stuff over and over again, This is why I sold my account, I simply was tired of the game. I think a lot of people who hate on wow, quit because they played so much, they did not stop when they were tired of it but probably played well into the point where they started to hate the game. Trust me there ARE players out there that WILL play a game they hate for many rasons, Social reasons, Self esteem reasons, many reasons out there.

the third and last reason why I quit wow is the graphics (I understand this reason will be 100% personal and probably only affected myself) I got tired of the cartoony style of WoW, I was not happy with it from DAY 1 I probably just reached the limit of dealing with it 2 years later because the game itself is fun. These are the reasons why I do not play wow.

    reason 1, agree

    reason 2, agree

reason 3, I disagree but cartoonish graphics is just personal taste

The first 2 reasons are what made me quit WoW 6 months ago. Especially the immaturity of the players, dunno, I might just get older and weird... Anyway I'm drunk and need some sleep so farewell :)

I can relate to all three of your reasons and they basically sum up my own reasons why I don't think I'll be playing anymore once my next couple of months run out.

After playing it since release (On and off), I've grown tired of it. Granted the new expansion is really well done and was a lot of fun, I just can't seem to want to stay logged in when I play. Which is kind of nice in a way, now I can enjoy all the other games I've been putting off or just haven't had time to play.

The next MMO I see myself playing for a long period of time will most likely be SW:TOR.

I am currently back to my first MMORPG I always wanted to get tru all the amazing stories and cinematics FFXI has. Sure its a grind, but working hard in FFXI makes you enjoy what you have all that much more. I like it because it is a hard time consuming game haha. I love the stories and 100% party based game play too. Will probably play it untill GW2 or Aion comes out.

Personally I haven't quit but I haven't logged in at all.  Even after getting WoTLK I made a Death Knight and then never logged back in.

In my humble opinion LOTRO is just a better game for me.  I enjoy playing LOTRO, I enjoy the storyline, the lore, the quests, the graphics, my class (Captain), etc all more then WoW.

When I did log into WoW all I felt was an overwhelming need to level up to 80.  I hate that WoW (for me) is not enjoyable to level in.  The feeling I get is disdain for the quests.  I know why too.  It has to do with the fact that Blizzard pretty much has butchered any "Lore" for the game.  Horde Paladins?  Alliance Death Knights?  They rewrite their game as they see fit when they need it.  Which of course is their right to do so.  I just think it is "selling out" in a way.

Only reason I still have a WoW account at all honestly is my Aunt plays and she bought WoTLK for me and paid for a 6 month subscription because she wanted me to play once and awhile.

    Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)

    Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)

In my experience of grouping in WoW you get good groups and bad groups. One day I could be with a bunch of childish morons (age being in no way linked to maturity) and the next with a group of amazing people with whom I have a memorable time. I kind of like that element of surprise you get from PUGs. Sometimes you can make some good friend that way.

I can see all your points on why you wouldn't like WoW or want to play it. I'm only wondering why everyone has to use the "hate." To me, quitting because it doesn't interest you anymore means you just lost interest AKA dislike it now. I find gamers like to go off the deep end with language... xD

But as I said, I can see all the reasons. It's just personal taste which is why I don't get why a lot of gamers feel the need to bash others for games they enjoy.

If I liked WoW for pure PvE content and the grind... I'd get bored and would be playing more MMOs for sure. But I play WoW for several reasons and even if the game didn't change, I probably wouldn't get bored because I'm an RPer and there is ALWAYS a character story to play. ^_~

As for the immaturity of players- I find that happens everywhere in life, in games and in all MMOs. Granted, it happens more in WoW due to the vast age range, but you can avoid it. I'm on an RP server where I have to deal with ignorant people who bash RPers... on the RP server... which is pointless and maddening. I simply ignore those users and for groups, I find that being in a good guild to do groups with can make things a lot easier and more fun.

    Pug groups do happen though, and it is the lottery. And to tell you the truth.. (and maybe this is just the masochist in me), I DO get a good laugh though when a group as a "whiny" player. I find it humorous. But maybe I'm too easy going... ^^;

In all honesty if you still say the lore of WotLK isn't great to level in, stop playing MMO's.

Compared to the lore and questing lines in WotLK, LOTRO is a dead duck.

You obviously either never played LOTRO or are just not a fan of The Lord of the Rings to make a comment like that.  Which is fine.  You can have your opinion.  But don't tell me to stop playing MMOs just because I don't enjoy Blizzard's crappy lore in WoW.

LOTRO and WoW aren't even comparable in the Lore Department.

World of Warcraft does a lot of things great.  LORE is not one of them.  Their lore in my opinion since WoW came out (was a lot better in the RTS games) is pretty trivial.

Well of COURSE WoW won't match up to the Lore in LOTRO. They have Tolkien's masterpieces on their side! TOTALLY unfair!!* I personally tried LOTRO and couldn't get past the beginning and I don't remember why. It might have been the battling system... and that was before I played WoW. I might try it again though, now that I hear so much support of it. Maybe the start is a bit slow. As for WoW and lore, well, yes it isn't going to be the "best" lore out there and it is all an opinion matter anyways. However, from an RP standard, lore is what you make it out to be. You can have the worst cookie cutter lore ever, but if you make interesting characters and play your own story... well, then you can make that lore more personally interesting to you. That's the fun of MMOs for me, at least.

That's one of the main problems with WoW: it's all about the endgame, and being very competitive.

WoW is bifurcated into the competitive players, and everyone else.  For "everyone else", it can be a casual, fun game, because you just play at your own pace and don't worry much, and once you hit cap, you grind for a mount or run 5-mans with friends for fun and some gear.  For the competitive set, however, it's about rushing to cap so you can get a raid spot and participate in competitive raiding without the fear of losing a raid spot.  So either you kind of give up on seeing the raid content and play casually and enjoy the leveling content, or you race past the leveling content to compete with other players for coveted raid spots so that you don't get left behind progression raiding.

LOTRO is more casual all the way. The entire thing is casual, so there isn't any real rush to level and to raid.  The biggest difference between the games, imo, is that LOTRO has a casual feel, whereas WoW has a very competitive edge to it, by design.

agree with your point on age not being linked to maturity, from my experience hat has been deemed "WoW kiddies" are actually young adults/adults ranging from 15- to mid 20s.the lower to mid 20s usually beiong the worse of the bunch for some reason. one of the coolest people i've ever met in an mmo was 12 he's now prolly in his 20s that kid could make anyone laugh thier ass off..lol and he was our MT in EQOA.

for me wow was fun for awhile but they got to complacent with thier greed and just keep pumping out more of the same over and over. played from a month after release till this past summer and just quit.

now i had got bored within the first year of the 5 man grouping on my resto druid, looked and looked just wasn't anything else out there i liked. so figure what the hell and respecced Feral after the druid revamp and tried out the pvp and enjoyed that for awhile, then got bored again, got laid off at work last january got in a raid guild after lvling up my orc shaman had fun with that for awhile even with the ugh guild dramas that goes along with being in a big guild. then after that died saw i had played every aspect of the game and they wasn't going to be adding anything actually new, just reskinned versions of the same and quit.

now that being said it did last alot longer than most games,EQOA was a close second. but eqoas longevity as moer to the fact of their awsome community, even with the fact that they COULDN'T add new content being on the ps2 and not supporting the HUD
