Alright, I'm going to give a simple, easy to understand, clear on the game review.

quick notes-

great gameplay.

not state of the art graphics.

excellent community.

Amazing pvp.

A decent Grinder.

Regnum Online - -

The realms.

Regnum is divided up into 3 realms, consisting of Ignis, Syrtis and Alsius.

Ignis: A harsh, scorching hot desert land, a true 'make or break' land.

Syrtis: If a lush green, flower field land is your cup of tea, this is the realm for you.

Alsius: Frozen wonderland. Endless snowlands ands skyscraping mountains. Bring a sweater.

The Characters and Classes.

Ignis-

Dark elf. (blue elf with attitude)

Human. (what you see in the mirror)

Molok. (what you see in the mirror plus tattoos. And better hair.)

Syrtis-

Alturian. (another generic human)

Wood elf. (long ears. and likes wood)

Half elf. (what happens when an elf and human get it on.)

Alsius-

Utghar. (yeti-human hybrid. or a goat)

Dwarf. (stout and proud, watch out for these suckers!)

Nordos. (a human surely covered in frostbite)

                   Knight (high def, low attack)

Warrior

                  Barbarian. (high attack, low defense)

                 Conjurer (healer)

Mage

                 Warlock (high damage dealing mage)

                  Hunter (archer with a pet)

Archer

             Marksman (strong shot)

Aspects  of  the  Game-

PVP (player vs. player) (rvr)

-This game is all about the player vs. player, The point is to take over other realm's forts/castles.  With a total of 9, the fight  goes on all night.

The Grind.

-The grind in this game is rather arduous as it takes a few months for the less active players to get to lvl50, the more active players can reach 50 soon with some friends and a clan.

Cash shop.

-The cash shop does not affect pvp at all, so no worries for all those who wont/cant pay for ximerin (cash shop currency). The cash shop provides a series of levelling boosts (extra exp for a set time), armour colouring (not very popular), mounts (get around quick) and hair colouring/cuts.

Well, that sums up nearly the whole game. I hope it helps in deciding wether to play the game or not. I advise to all newbs, please play more than 10 minutes before dissing it.

Look for me ingame, I go by Angst Bloodmoon. I play for ignis, i'd gradly help out any newbies!

    Hey!

Great summary! The difference is that I chose Alsius

What would be nice to add is that you don't have to max out your character to enjoy the wars... I currently am a lvl 39 Conjurer (max level is 50) and I enjoy a lot curing... if you want to forget about life problems, make a Conjurer, you wont stop acting in war!

Other thing that I would like to add is that even though graphics are not "astonishing" they bring a lot of realism and tidyness in big wars... in some games I played when a lot of players gathered around you would not understand a thing!

    That's all for now... xD

The review hits the main points, but I would add a bit more about the hunter class.

Hunters have pets (which many people enjoy) -- but they also have track. This skill, imho, makes RO Hunters one of the best commando classes out there.

Track allows you to hunt down your enemies in the big expanse of the war zone. The track skill tree also includes camouflage skills that allow you to set up ambushes against your enemies.

Nothing is more fun than getting a small group of people together and tracking through the war zone enemies to fight. Combine that with clever ambushes done out of camouflage, and you have a recipe for good times.

    Yes!

I am level 46 now and those situations are really exciting! Hunters are a hard deal for Conjurers (but I'm almost never alone) but I learned how to manage them (Sanctuary FTW!).

I've been stalked by many hunters while levelling, and the best part is the revenge attack

I used to play Regnum a lot, getting both a conjurer and a warlock to the max level of 50, but I mostly quit about 6 months ago because NGD, the game creators, destroyed the balance of the game.

Initially I was drawn to this game because it encouraged teamwork to take and hold forts and balance between the six classes. However, this was destroyed last Summer when NGD made a few changes. The result of these changes is that both archer classes are not the gods of the game, better at EVERYTHING. I'll point out a few of my points:

Range: Archers (both Marksmen and Hunters) have the longest range than any other class.

Damage: Marksmen do the second highest damage than any other class, second only to the melee-only Barbarian class... but a Marksman can do it from long distance. A hunter won't do as much damage as a marksman, but his pet can deal massive damage at no mana cost, while the player can easily keep the opponent incapacitated.

Mana: Though archers don't have a lot of mana, most of their spells have a low mana cost. For instance, the knock-down attack of an archer costs only 40% as much mana as the same power from a mage, and with a faster casting time.

Speed: Hunters and Marksman have several possible bonuses for speed, and hunters are by far the fastest class in the game.

Evasion: Archers have by far the highest chance to evade a spell you throw at them naturally.

Some of their spells are quite overpowering:

Confuse: This spell is a fast-casting, low-mana spell that will render an enemy's conjurer (healer, prime target) utterly helpless for 30 to 40 seconds! Most similar spells last from 4 to 11 seconds. There is no way for a conjurer to defend from this, and once Confused, can't do anything to survive before the spell runs out. It usually means death in seconds to a conjurer.

Son of the Wind: This spells is basically a god-mode spell for archers. When cast, the archer is almost invincible, yet can still attack! Often an archer will cast this spell, run into a group of 6 or more enemies, kill the weakest (usually the conjurer), then run off with over half their health remaining before the spell wears out. With this spell in addition to their ultra-high evades, they make better "tanks" than knights.

So, if you decide to play Regnum, you can choose to be a barbarian, knight, warlock, conjurer, hunter or marksman. But I would not recommend playing any of the other classes:

Barbarian: Why be a barbarian, when you can hit almost as hard with a Marksman, and from a safe distance, plus have far better defenses.

Knight: Poor knights, they sacrifice much to be the "tanks" of Regnum... but because of the overpowering evasion and Son of the Wind of archers, knights are not as good tanks as archers.

Conjurers: One Confuse spell from an archer, and you might as well go make a sandwich, because you'll probably be done with your snack before the spell wears off and your character dies helplessly.

Warlocks: They have many powerful spells, but when 70% of them will simply be evaded by a lower level archer, you'll soon find yourself out of mana and helpless to their superior powers.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a balanced game of teamwork or desire to play a spellcaster or warrior, don't bother with this game. However if you want to mindlessly kill weaker, helpless classes over and over with no need for teamwork, then make yourself an archer and you'll like this game... at least until all the other classes just stop being played.

*** Opinion change after major update ***

Well it has been several weeks since I first posted this, and in that time, NGD released a major update, which fixed almost all of my complaints. Regnum is once again a great game!

Mmm... there's a little bit of exaggeration in your post

The game is RvR, so if you concentrate on PvP kind-of balance, you've chosen the wrong game.

It's true that there is an existing imbalance (as in every MMORPG but a liitle bit more) and that should be fixed.

There are rumours of the Invasions feature coming soon and that balance will have a lot of tweaks... I hope that's true!

I've been thinking about Invasions as any player has done and I think they will be very exciting, providing a lot of RvR battles, where balance will be in players organization...

I played a lot of massives, Regnum has some problems, but RvR fights beat the crap out of any other MMORPG I played... seems I'm a bit more patient, but you are right on some points, but man... you've overreacted

Here's a rating from the top scoring player in the kingdom of syrtis on the RA Server (the 'big leagues'):

Don't waste your time, this game has been going backwards for months, with bad update after bad update....and all the while the lag keeps getting worse. This game is defined by it's LIFE CHOKING LAG.

This game gets a solid 4 stars out of 10 from me. (Once upon a time it would have gotten 7.5 out of 10)

Look what a player who used an imbalanced and bugged skill to be "the best player" (omg i'll wet my pants ) posts now because they fixed it... now you have to learn to play, play like the real best players!

Coming and bashing a game like that, a game that with it's problems and errors it's still one of the best f2ps around......

I said "Top scoring player", because i am. I am the highest scoring player in Syrtis history. Anyway, let's face it, the game should be called LAGNUM.

Wow! Congrats on spending more of your life in a video game (that you seem to hate) than anyone else in Syrtis! That is some accomplishment! You should put that at the top of your resume. I'll bet that gets you the chicks too. "Hey, baby. I am the highest scoring player in Syrtis history in Regnum! Oh, yeah!" Maybe some would say, "Syrtis? Where is that? Regnum? What is that? Oh... a video game... Er... sorry I, uh, gotta go pick up my boyfriend." But hey, just keep trying, maybe it will work on someone.

Also, as can clearly be seen here, a lot of the players in regnum are h8ting losers. Hahaha

I feel I need to post in this thread again. A few weeks ago, I posted about the many problems of Regnum, in particular the lack of balance between classes, in the huge overpowering of the hunter class. However, NGD released a major update in December that fixed almost all of my  complaints. They did a wonderful job, and restored balance between the classes again. I have three characters from different classes, and I now enjoy playing all of them. They all have strengths as well as weaknesses. Great job NGD!

When you see Valorius' posts, you will understand his tantrum, because he only has only one character, a hunter. His class was previously grossly overpowered, which I'm sure he enjoyed, and now he's unhappy because the game balance has taken away his class's extreme advantages and made it an equal with others. I notice that his first post coincides with the release of the update that fixed the game.

Anyway, great job NGD! They listened to their players, and made the game interesting and fun again. Also they added a feature called Invasion that gives the game more of a purpose.

Virtually anyone who still plays will tell you that NGD went way too far with the hunter nerfs. They are almost totally defenseless now, and their already weak offense was further diminished because NGD also removed all "Ximerald" bows as well. So it was a double whammy. What's more, the hunters one defense for when a warrior gets close- stunfist- has also been majorly nerfed. The hunter class was not balanced, it was ruined.

There are threads on the NGD forums regarding all these issues.

Yes, this last update shows how Regnum is staging to become what it always had to be. Balance is being taken care of and the some hints of 2009 roadmap seem too good to be true

Well, they answered to a lot of our requests in this update... I hope that they keep on doing so :)
