Except that, in order to rate the game, you need to be able to play it. The majority of the world can't play it yet. The majority of their potential subscribers can't play yet, for that matter.
Your estimate of the population of europe is considerably low. However, since most of europe will go live in January, with Acclaim, or in the next few days/weeks with whatever screwball delay they've got now, my statement is still correct. Quit being obtuse. I guarantee you that 500,000,000 don't live in the countries of germany, france, and benelux combined (that would be about 2/3 of the total population of europe). Most of europe isn't playing yet due to this release being so terrible.
What I'm having a hard time understanding is how the devs could make such a great game, yet be utterly incompetent at putting it in the hands of people who want to pay them to play it.

i think i'm with you there, but that's all the more reason to remove the hype. this site doesn't make or break games, but a lot of people come here for MMO news. and we can't be amerocentric, can we? let's change it to released status, and watch the rating sink. maybe then companies will learn not to pull this shit, or at least it'll vindicate some of the now-goose-egged fanboi erections that have been swollen for this mediocre looking game for some 3 years at this point
Well majority of the people on MMORPG.com come from the states and in the states game will be released in Jan 2009 - they even changed the release date to that on front page. It is same with Asian games as well really, the release date usually is Western one, not when the game got launched in Asia.
Then again, this is probably the most bizare launch in West ever.
Spellborn was a game I always had an interest in, but Darkfall is my first choice and the time that i can devote to my geek hobby is unfortunatly only enough to follow one game prerelease closely. So i have been out of the loop.
That being said, they have done a terrible job with releasing and hyping this game for launch. I dont even know the full details but it is a shame that such a promising game is having trouble with simply getting the product on the market.
I believe they will remove the hype meter once it is released in the US. This is primarily a US site and most releases are removed from there when they come out in the states. Look at Aion for example. That game is already released in Korea but it is still on the hype meter. So just be a little patient for when it comes to the states and it will be put into the released category.

Are you talking about Spellborn or Darkfall?
Sorry for the trolling, but you should know that small indy companies don´t have that much power, when it comes to contracts. Be it PotbS and SOE, TCoS and their publisher adventure, I don´t know enough about Darkfall though.

well game is released in europe and since only about 500 000 000 people live ther i guess that does not count so lets still hype it!

In the end it really shouldn't matter that much.
