ARAC sucks!

LustmordLustmord Member UncommonPosts: 1,114

I'm curious about how the folks feel about ARAC guilds.

Any race can form a guild with each other. Orcs, Humans, Elves, etc.. All banding together.

I personally don't like the idea, never have. How about you?

I don't like that. It makes it harder on guilds, but it adds more diversity to the game with race/class restricted guilds.

Then again, big guilds would just create separate guilds and form alliances to overcome this, like they did in shadowbane. /shrug.

Personally i'm a big fan of ARAC guilds. I hate the situation where the devs decide before hand who will be my allies and enemies, I want to make that decision myself. The whole faction v faction situation feels very dry and old to me.

I think EvE does it very well, where you can choose to join the factional war if you are that way inclined, but have complete freedom to form a corp with whatever races you desire.

Why put restriction in your choice to form a guild? And yYour guild will go red, so it will be harder.

    It's a good thing.

In Darkfall, there's 6 Races: Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Mahirim, Orks and Alfar.

Humans, Dwarves and Elves belong to the same Faction or 'team' if you like.

Orks and Mahirim also belong to the same faction.

Alfar are outcasts who live in mountains, and belong to their own faction.

You can communicate with members of the opposing fraction, you can party up with them, and everything. However, you will not be able to get into the enemy factions cities or camps. Well, actually you will. Just not without the guards attacking you.

There is also an Alignment system in Darkfall, if you kill members of your faction, your Alignment will decrease. However, if you kill members of the enemy faction, it will either increase or have no effect-- I'm not sure.

So yeah, you're free to do whatever the hell you want in Darkfall. If you want to make friends with someone on a different faction, you can!

Also, Guilds can have their own towns-- I'm sure you've all heared about this, and you're probably wondering how factions will work here.

In a Guild controled town, the Guild can set their guards to do whatever they like. For example: A guild can set their town guards to attack players with a negative alignment. Or they can set the guards to attack Orks. Or they can set the guards to attack everyone who isn't a member of your guild. It's entirely up to you.

    So yeah.

Like it has been said before: In Darkfall you are free. So you can ofcourse communicate with, befriend, or kill the opposing faction. You choose.

    ARAC.

    Yes, you can.

But it will be very hard to make a city, taking the guards in thought.

for me it would depend on the lore of the game

then again, even tough i love my guild, i wouldnt mind a mmo where guilds are obsolite and political organisations and fractions reside inside the lore of the game rather then beeing some kind of out of game sports club.

Part of the crap I wrote explaining ARAC guild towns:

Shadowbane is an ARAC game. But they also made a loreplay server, where there are race and class restrictions. Almost nobody plays on the lore server because its too restricting .People want to choose the race they want and still be in the guild they want.

I hope it will be difficult and take along time to redeem yourself after killing your own race. otherwise everyone will just kill everyone and the whole system will be waste of time. I'd like races to fight as a faction as much as possible so its faction vs faction vs faction vs reds. means more stratergic team based pvp not total FFA, (though FFA if you want it).

Give me freedom or give me death. Freedom!

Just give me a world and stop telling me what to do.

i dont see the problem with it. as with real life your have people who dont like each other as well as people who dont really care if you look different.  people can even go as far as being racist if you cant form groups with other races but lets not go there.

  • imbantimbant Member Posts: 1,291

    Voted YAY =)

I have never gotten into the lore of any MMO I have ever played, it is just how I am.  Though I can definitely see the flip side of the arguement, it just makes sense to me that a guild could have members of different races.  You see it all the time in other fantasy games/movies when the races are generally at war with eachother, but there is always that different and out of the way group that has settled their differences for a common goal.

The game is supposed to be about player freedom... Seriously, why would you want to artificially limit players like this? The races can talk to one another, so why would they never be able to ally?

Although I'm a little biased. My brother insists he's going to play an Alfar. There's no way I'm playing an Alfar, they look like the love-child of a Goth and Manbat.

If it were possible to tell the guards not to attack specific players of any race it could add some nice espionage aspects to the game... spies and traitors!!!
