Ridiculous Racial Traditions

Gnome

Confusing Babble – Gnomes aren’t the most durable denizens of Norrath, so it’s often useful to talk their way out of a bad situation. With a timely burst of perplexing chatter, you’re able to soothe angry creatures and lower their hatred toward you as they stop to figure out what you’re yapping about.

Dwarf

Vital Provisions – Living in a world of magic has its advantages. Over the centuries as other races focused on developing talents in lesser areas, the dwarves learned an ability that truly matters – summoning Ale."
These are Racial Traditions for two of the races of Everquest2, they were posted on the forums earlier today.  Now, I must say that these are two of the stupidest abilities I've ever seen.  However, there were some people complaining that I "didn't have a sense of humor" but I don't want these goofy abilities, and I hope there will be a plethora of other options for Racial Traditions.  I also figure that if they are going to implement these goofy abilities why not go all out on stupidity?  If you're going to have Dwarves pointlessly summoning ale out of no where and gnomes starting conversations with zombies you might as well have the following abilities.

Ogre Feces - An angry and irritated Ogre gains the ability to shat on a Froglok's face because of conflicts of the past involving the Rallosian army and Gukta.  The Froglok goes blind and then dies shortly after.
Dirty Midget - Halflings get the uncanny ability to shove their unusually large, hairy feet up people's asses.  Pure and simple.
Physical Appreciation - Trolls get the ability to run around and dance naked in the moonlight.  Why?  Well why not?
With these new abilities the dwarven "Vital Provisions" and the gnomish "Confusing Babble" seem right at home.

In the words of Larry the Cable Guy:

"I don't care who you are. That's funny right there."

    Nihilis..

    those aren't actual racial traits...

EQ2 is simply trying to add a flare to the descriptions of those races to get a better understanding of who they are. If you're a gnome, you're not going to get a babble skill to talk your way out of things. Those are descriptions useful for roleplaying situations if you ever felt the urged to roleplay in the game and has no mechanical bearing to the game

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Actually I'd bet that this does have a mechanical bearing to the game, and I also know that gnomes are not literally going to be "starting conversations with zombies" or "talking their way out of things".  Confusing Babble is in fact going to be a choice for Racial Traditions, and the lowering hate ability is fine.  Just the way they approached it is...odd.  If you're a roleplayer you might be thinking "what in God's name? would this gnome really start talking mid-battle to confuse the dragon?" but if you're not then you probably won't care.

That wasn't the impression I got from reading the post on traits. Maybe I misread it.

The really important question is why the hell does Tony Danza have his own talk show, even if it is on at 3:30am?

Tony Danza has a show??? Who's the Boss III? image

Anyways...if they will actually be traits...then yes I do find it odd.

Actually that is incorrect En1Gma, these are not just "fluff" skills, they are skills that actually effect your character in combat, although I think they are cool for the roleplaying aspect as well. For example the gnome's confusing babble skill is basically an active skill, when activated it will reduce a monsters agro toward you, I can imagine this skill being extremely useful for healers and mages who accidently draw to much agro and get a mob on them.

Well yes, I could see "Confusing Babble" as being usefull, but I think it's just ridiculous and goofy.  I mean I could make "Ogre Feces" usefull too, but would you really want that ability?  Okay, let's compare "Confusing Babble" to "Ogre Feces"

    Confusing Babble

Roleplaying version : Gnomes aren't the most durable denizens of Norrath, so it's often useful to talk their way out of a bad situation. With a timely burst of perplexing chatter, you're able to soothe angry creatures and lower their hatred toward you as they stop to figure out what you’re yapping about

Technical Version : Gnomes are able to reduce the hatred gathered against them by X amount, giving a better chance for someone to pull the mob off them.

    Ogre Feces

Roleplaying Version : An angry and irritated Ogre gains the ability to shat on a Froglok's face because of conflicts of the past involving the Rallosian army and Gukta.  The Froglok goes blind and then dies shortly after.

Technical Version : Ogre's gain an attack that does X amount of burning damage every Y seconds for Z amount of time. Does A% more damage to Frogloks

Sounds like a usefull ability, doesn't it?

Disclaimer: Ogre feces is a fictional ability
