Hi, I'd like to know which of these roleplaying games do you concider the best of 2008, I'm fully aware this list isn't at all exhaustive, but this is a little experiment, please refrain from attempting to drum up support for your favourite title.
Thanks alot

lmao at how many people picked WoW, oh how far we have fallen from what it means to be an RPG. WoW is more like a single player linear adventure game.
Darkfall Travelogues!
If you mean 'Roleplaying' in it's truest form - then basically no MMO that has been released in the last 4 years, unless it is some really underground MUD. RP is dead for MMO's. I think people need to wise up to this.
Singeplayer I'd say Mass Effect.
Meh, I'd suggest not putting MMOs on the list. Anyways, Fallout 3 all the way imo... or like, Persona 3 >.>
I have played lots of MMO's and I would say LOTRO had the most RP, too bad I didn't like the game

I would say the witcher. I had a great time with it. How the hell does WoW beat out the witcher!?
WoW's Role playing Elements and depth of a Tekken game. (Which is a great fighter but its not a RPG.
Oh this is just laughable now. This morning Mass Effect was winning by a landslide. Now Fallout3? I guess people just have loyalty for whatever was released the latest, even though Mass Effect was EASILY a thousand times better than FO3
Darkfall Travelogues!
Not meaning to crap on anything, but Mass effect was 2007, not 2008. Fallout3 came out a year after. It's also the one I choose (Just because the pc version came out after its xbox 360 counterpart doesn't really matter).
Just want things fair :P
This thread is about roleplaying games, not mentioning online alone.
Mass Effect and Fallout 3 are all miles and miles away for all the others, being maybe the Witcher and Fable 2 the exceptions, i wonder why ppl are voting on wotlk here, for god sake, it must be a joke...
LOL, half those games are not even role playing games, like mass effect, fallout, fable. Next time understand your genre before posting a nonsense poll.
on your poll for single player rpg games i would pick fallout 3. its such a fun game and i love the combat system (vats). mmo rpg game i would pick warhammer for the only reason that it kept me the longest out of any mmo this year and that ive been having some fun in it
why arent these rpgs? you play as a person who goes through their adventure and you control them. what are you talking about, muds? old school lucasart games?
Actually you play a major role in those Games. Ain't that the point of a RPG? You play a certain role in a big story. Whats your definition of it? Skill leveling and building a house? Rofl ...
war just cause i like midevil but fall out 3 is a great game as well
Out of the ones you listed Mass Effect has been the only one to blow me away. Fallout 3 is good, but it hasn't grabbed me like ME did.

Im on the side of Ozmodan here. People no longer fully understand the true meaning of a roll play game. Dungeon and dragons (NOT the video game, the verbal get together with your friends game) is a true RPG. Stats play a big ROLL in and RPG and any way of building up your character is. It is true that you do play the roll, but you have to modify your character to your liking and controlability. the only true RPG's out there I believe are the MMORPGS, i can only see playing a fun single player RPG such as, phantasy start online or final fantasy. But to really play a roll, you ahve to get into a large community. When star wars galaxies first came out, man, that game was awesomly packed with a bunch of rp'ers it was great. but then they really nerfed it and i didnt like the set up of it so i quit. its hard to find a good rpg out there today that you can become a different person when you play, but we just have to keep looking.

Of the single player titles mass effect was my favourite, though I take your point about only the pc version being 2008. mmo wise war brought some nice new ideas to the genre with public quests etc but they weren't quite implmented well enough. WoW offers a huge ammount now and the achiement system adds some real longetivity and encouragement to try new things.
I voted for Fallout 3, only because it is taking me longer to finish it than Mass Effect. Of course, I'm more likely to play ME a second time through than FO3. I really think you should have seperated mmo's from single player games.
Noggy: I don't mean this in a snobbish way, but the very nature of your question illustrates the cancer that is eating away at the term RPG, a complete misunderstanding of what that phrase means, i.e. ROLE playing game. Ever since RPGs came to the computer, people mistake character stat development as a persona development, when the two are entirely different beasts. It is literally like saying that if you can buy all the parts to build a race car and manage to assemble it with a lot of dedicated tie, you'll by default be a race car driver.
There is not a single MMO currently on the market that is a Role playing game, they're all avatar development games, in which you build stats through pursuing a prelaid obstacle course. There are no moral decisions, no repurcussions for flip flopping on issues, no impact made on the enviornment other than at the most, a harvesting node depleted, ect. And the Devs of all the MMOs are misusing the term just as badly, with no clue how to represent a sandbox like that. Yet Devs of Fallout, Fable, etc, manage to do it just fine. Roleplaying is all about consequences for your actions, good and bad, that are dynamic, not static mob grinding and leveling.
All that said, my vote is Fallout 3.
Even peace may be purchased at too high a price, and the only time you are completely safe is when you lie in the grave.
Hands down, its fallout 3. The in-game story of fallout 3 is so interactive that different outcome is determine by what type of quests to wiish take on. Aside from that, is this new 3rd person turn-based attack feature together with an option to go Real tiem 1st person shooter game.
It was a good year , but top for me would be : The Witcher , because its unique - bit like Planescape Torment in a way.
It is followed very very closely with super high quality production Mass Effect , and soprising Fallout 3 that hushed up even hardest of sceptics
I chose down Fallout 3 simply cause Im a fan of the series and plus the replay value and the amount of content in the games was sufficient enough to play the games thru 3 times each, sometimes more since I missed little things and secrets. Right now Im still playing Fallout 3 the first time thru still with a extremely high karma and explored everything but the downtown dc area and the south east corner of the map, wish I knew where the chinese signal was coming from though with the guy just saying one word..... the other signal towers I searched around and found storm drains and the radio signals orgins finally, I traveled thru the land with a fine comb thru the entire map, needless to say Im having more fun playing Fallout 3 than playing any MMO right now, now if they would make a Fallout MMO now.......
Age of Conan has a very good RP community on thier RP servers. I for one am always on the RP server in any game. Age of Conan is probably the best RP community since Dark Age of Camelot.
