While I'm skeptical of both at the moment because I am deeply DEEPLY disturbed that the ONE hope I have for a game to not be completely dumbed down to moronically shallow levels thanks to WoW is slowly being dashed with Aion as I hear more and more from the devs how they want to compete with WoW and embrace casual players, at least I can sit soundly in the knowledge that Darkfall will be a spectacular failure.
As long as they aren't rubbish the pvp crowd will be happy playing them. It's not like they have a multitude of choices regarding these types of games.
(and hopefully most of them will stay away from more adventure oriented online games)

I don't get it why everyone liks Darkfall? Guess I'm just stupid, because I don't see anything in Darkfall. Graphis suck, Chars are ugly and the whole world is kinda...boring and numb. Therefore I'm at Aion's side.

I have to wonder why people feel such a strong need to post about games they know nothing about? If you even spend only a little bit of time on actual research on Aion, you'll notice that the game is the complete opposite of the traditional asian grinder. But you clearly haven't done that.

I will vote Aion... at least in Aion you can put on your wings and fly away. In Darkfall you are surrounded by Gankers Inc. all the time, who seem to be the only ones left on the server.

AION a game with a FLYING niche ,all the little pansies will be soooooo excited the ycan fly ..YAAAAY.Those that look far past the flying niche[i doubt there is many]they might have a decent game to enjoy,they are probably players who reside in NCSOFT games and plan on the transformation from other NCSOFT games into this one,mainly because of friends.Honestly this game is not that bad,it has it's problems but so does every single game out there, i can see some enjoying this speedfest for the eyes. Aion reminds me of Grenada Espada. Some people are just suckers for what they think is pretty artwork. It's not my style, but a lot of players are very enamored with it. They see this, and their hearts flutter, and they don't pay any attention to the game mechanics:

Pretty shiny things some players like, but if you look past it its the same as mostly everything else that released this year.....another train ride for the masses that is overhyped and will fall short of expectations when the American population gets their hands on it, just like AOC , and WAR beta was hyped as it was called the best game ever and nothing negative was posted and people flamed at those who didnt agree and called the game as they saw it, when those games released the tune and the postitive reviews and all the hyped died very quickly and now are just medicore games just like this one will be.....

I dont support MMOs rabidly like a good majority of people do on here I call games as I read and see how they are, if a game that looks promising that doesnt follow the current fourmla I might be interested in it , but in today's market I don't hold high expectations for any MMO out there or become a raving lunatic fanboi cause when game release any of them usually fall short of expectations or just plain suck... as in the case of Aion it doesnt really bring anything to the table , as its just another train ride MMO with wings ez-mode hold my hand MMO. Game may be many things, but a game with in-game quest cutscenes where you can hit max level in less than 2 weeks if you are playing hardcore is not a 'grinder.'

Seems to me from this discussion that 2009 will not offer a spectacular game at least not in its first half. Darkfall has some interesting features from what I have read and in game videos I have watched, but it looks dated. Maybe it just took too long to develop? Aion, if the game mechanics are as polished as the look of the game at least it will run well. Maybe it will be a solid game since they do not even claim to be that different from what we know an MMO to be, but every aspect developed a bit further; more detailed crafting system, fly combat within fantasy genre, PvPvE etc. So maybe it has developed the well known MMO features enough to not leave a been - there - done - that impression, interesting enough to played for a while with awesome graphics and rich costumisation. If Darkfall proved to offer a genuine gameplay experience then I think it will be the sucess of the two, though it looks like a yeasterday game when it comes to graphics. But this is much more difficult to achieve so the chance of failure is much higher. Darkfall is more an either or, whereas Aion could your next buddy you stay with for a while until the really spectacular new game arrives on the stage.
To choose which game is most anticipated is difficult since bearly any of us has first hand experience. We have to rely on news from the companies, video clips, what can be read about the game on pages like this and rumour. So it is to base a judgement on mere impressions instead of facts(first hand knowledge)
Think I tilt versus Aion of the two for most anticipated game 2009, think it has greater chance of being a solid game. On the other hand maybe anticipation is all Darkfall really is, and that is what we are voting on this time, so I haven't made up my mind yet. And really this awards are just another game, the End of the Year (EotY)game.

Example, I am at work right now but my Lineage 2 game at home is up and running because I have my shops set up which still counts as in game time but if I could sit at home and play all day I sure as hell would do it.
