The game simulating with day and night and even more terrible is mist or poison storm with nearly no lighting effect, the visible range probably only 5-8 meters. Snow storm is ok because the screen is white but snow storm at night is unplayable time. And the new expansion Moria is mostly in dungeon, could be few thousand meters underground with extremely poor lighting. Which means your eyes are focusing on something you can't see clear regularly. It will damaged your visibility gradually.
The game really simulates the dark time, yes, it's simple, night time means black out.
Turbine should provide tools to player to use when it's getting dark to protect player's eyes. There is one solution, making player able to carry a Torch without occupy on a slot so the Torch light up automatically just like vehicle always have lights on.
Sometimes, I noticed there are lighting support around the player when you enter the dark area but most time, there is no light at all. It is like you go out to hunting in the cave at 2am and there is no moonlight or any light.

See you in the dream..
The Fires from heaven, now as cold as ice. A rapid ascension tolls a heavy price.
In my opinion the snow storms at night are some of the best times in the game.
I agree on the whole torch thing. That would have been a nice touch.

lmao, when I played LotRO, at night the entire area glowed like New York City, it is far far from dark.
Darkfall Travelogues!
Snowstorms at night really are horrible.. Especially since they were bugged on the European, the effect didn't fade untill you relogged. You only saw the freep territories, during the day, with bloom effect probably.
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.
I don't know what you are talking about, but I have no issues with any lighting in LOTRO. Maybe it's your settings or maybe you're paid to post things like this. Whatever the reason I suggust you post about it on the LOTRO forums, if you have an active subscription. The people on the LOTRO forums can be very helpful, unlike this site where there are some people that are paid to steer people away from games.
To say night time means that it is a total black out is really rediculous, when I am out at night fishing or just camping my eyes adjust fine, the darkest it gets is in the woods, not in open areas. Have you ever heard of moon light? This is a game that simulates night time and day time, it isn't the real world so don't expect real world lighting, like I said, simulates which means it trys to act like it is real.

This thread is pointless to be honest, you can manually increase the gamma and brightness in game if its too dark for you.

Ah so that is what that meant. didn't know that, never used it. Is it like carrying a real torch or does it just surround the character in light?

elaboration,... alt+f10 turns on your 'torch', which shuts off automatically during daytime

Surrounds your character with light.
yeah...that's the torch key...So, you see OP...that feature is already included.
Thanks for the heads up about the added light at night. What you know the OP didn't waste my time after all.
*cough* fail *cough*
Its weird that you cannot see the torch in your keymap options. There is actually no indication what so ever in the game that there is an in-game torch.
This is a small but with Moria importan thing Turbine should fix.

Snow storm at daytime is acceptable because it is the visibility from within the character in game but real player behind the monitor still have good visibility. At night time, it is terrible, because there is no reason for real player to suffering visual ability for the weather effect from the game.
The worst effect was not storm, but the whole game world changed to green and dark on the monitor, especially, the new expansion are all in dungeons, there is no moonlight or starlight. And ALT+F10 did not work.
When I playing the game, I can accept my role have limited visual ability to see through the weather effect in game which is just like how far your graphics setting to render the landscape distance, but not real person.
If your eyes constantly focus on poor lighting monitor, it don't matter you have good lighting surrounding you, your visual ability going to pay for the price of gaming. It is different from real life that if your eyes used to darkness in night time.
Kindly display your degree in optomitry please. The amount of time you would have to be focusing on something like that would be so great, that you'd be facing other health issues from having played the game so long in one/multiple sitting(s). In additoin, this assumes you focus on absolutely nothing but the screen for hours at a time days on end. Take a minute or two to relax your eyes by looking around your room and HEY you're good to go again. Seriously, this thread is hallarious.
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

What a ridiculous thread. I've been playing LOTRO for 2 years now and my eye prescription hasn't changed. Turn off post-processing effects if you don't like the haze/fog effects. Adjust the gamma or play in a dark room if you can't see stuff at night.
Methinks the OP is confused as to which 'bad habit' mother said will cause you to go blind.
Lol another hilarious thread by Larry. He never disappoints.
Wasn't it proven scientifically already that trying to read/see things in poor lighting conditions doesn't make you go blind? I think it was.
The thing your mommy tells you is just some myth that's been said over the years that won't be forgotten by mothers. Other than that it teaches you to not pick up bad habits.
The graphics in LOTRO are almost all simple tricks. Take the so called "Great Forest" where Tom Bombadil lives. Its simply a hall way with trees textured onto the walls of the hall. Sure the hall branches every now and then but it is far from a forest environment. Long ago in EQ1 there was a place called Warsilk Woods that looked/played remarkably like a forest. If a forest can be simulated in in EQ1 then surely it could be in LOTRO. Its not for lack of technology (you may have noticed how they tote their little DX10 flag all the time), its for lack of skill. I have never seen a game that is more graphically patch-work than LOTRO. Parts (like the water and sky look great ~ in some zones~) where as thier trees and roads look stretched and miss sized (again depending on the zone you are in). Take a close look around Bree at the building textures. Many of the windows are sitting half way intot he ground as though they were suddenly burried and some are half covered by other walls. Now graphics inconsistancies are something we learn to expect in older games that have survived a few generations of graphics technology but not in new games like LOTRO. Eitherway the sight/viewing distance issue you are experiencing is not in all zones and thats the good news for you, on the downside the only way to fix it is to shut off the effect. People say this for bloom in many games too; "If it bugs you shut it off". For me this is not really a solution, it is a way around it, but it does not fix the issue. We should be able to have bloom and all other effects on without the game creating graphics anomalies that adversly affect game play (never mind create eye strain). And as for sloppy miss placed textures... well I know for CERTAIN that they were reported in closed and open beta at ALL stages and have yet to be addressed.
