I no longer play MMO games, no more $15/mo from me, I play the XBox 360 and $50/yr for ANY game and get exclusive beta/content downloads from XBL, so far I'm having fun with it. I still play the Call of Duty * series on PC once in a while, and I have 3 months free time in Tabula Rasa until it shuts down on Feb 28th.

Well I have never been one of those to say "I will never play a SOE game again" after the NGE fiasco because I thought they would learn from their lesson and also because I believed it had been an extraordinary event which affected one game. I did play other SOE published games such as Vanguard and PotBS. However, it seems they have not learnt and in all honesty I can now say with all confidence I will NEVER touch a SOE game again, no matter how promising it looks, and now I feel confident I have enough substance to back that up after all of these unethical practices they insist on following in their games. You never really know whats coming next with SOE anymore.
My doubt with SOE started long before the NGE but the NGE was absolutely the last straw for me. Their screwup with PlanetSide and MxO were just the beginning and along came the CU and I thought "eh I could get used to this CU" and actually had fun half a year into it and NOBODY knew about the NGE or even thought SOE would do the inevitable but when the NGE was leaked and proven true, I promised myself no more SOE or Sony products (TV, DVD player, etc).
I owned a couple Sony Wega TV's in the 90's, they didn't even last a year (one bulb blew, other TV couldn't get cable signal anymore) and repair services took about a year and $150 with the blown bulb one. Other name brands like JVC, Panasonic, Phillips are much cheaper for the same quality if not better product as Sony has for example a Phillips or Sharp 36" TV for $799 while Sony's 36" is $1,100, also Sony's latest cosmetics on home systems are BUTT UGLY too. I don't even care for blu-ray DVD's either.
From what I understand from the SOE forums Sony were so sure this would be liked by everyone because they did a survey....and focus group testing....sound familiar to any SWG vets out there?

Which means that once again they are going after a "target audience" that probably doesn't exist.
That's been one of SOE's core management problems... They keep placing more importance on players they DONT have over players that they HAVE. And they keep doing this on games that already exist and have existed for years with already established core player bases.
The proper time to research players that you'd LIKE to have is when you are working on a NEW game, not an old one.
This started of course with SWG, with the CU and NGE. Now they are dicking around with EQ/2 which is the only thing that has consistently made them money. Which could sink them for good.

"Dear Valued Player,
Based on feedback we have received from various player surveys, we are thrilled to present Station Cash™. As part of our ongoing efforts to respond to our players’ requests as we continue to evolve the EverQuest® franchise."
Also, give it some more time and $OE will start to charge you 25 cents per bug to be fixed via RMT.
WTF is this... $OE, please enter your credit card info if you would like to see this bug fixed.
I hope they take this idea, it would really help the destruction of $OE to come faster
Or how about when you hit max xp for your level, a window pops up for you to enter your credit card. To advance to the next level, $5.95. And when you purchase a new skill at the skill trainer....$5.95. This could add up...

They can't do that. They'd be busted for fraud because SOE has proven themselves completely incapable of fixing bugs.
announce some features, making people pay to see them, pay in advance also, and then give them something ocmpletely different... thats not fraud?
at the movies, you pay 10$ to see james bond with all its new stunts and cars and girls and when you go in they changed the roll and you are watching Barney and friends... that is fraud...
One thing I find hard to believe in all this is, how the hell does this guy Smedley still have the job ? Surely the head honcho's at Sony can see this guy is driving their Mmo business and name through the mud , how come they hav'nt got rid of him ? Or will they finally wake up and smell the coffee after this latest disgracful fiasco ?
This is mainly because the rest of Sony is actually in even WORSE shape than SOE.
I think what they have done to EQ/EQ2 may actually be WORSE than the NGE... They actually changed the entire gameplay system and how you achieve in the game... It's amazing that this isn't a bigger deal than it is.
Just months ago they said they were not going to do this and now, suddenly, they have. No questions, on concerns, just did it. It's an absolute disgrace to ethics.
I cannot believe there are people pathetic enough to keep paying SOE to play their games.

Yep.
And I think this will be their complete undoing. SWG is dead, because of the NGE. It's kept alive only because LEC wants a game until the new one comes out. Vanguard and every other game SOE has touched has turned to... fail. EQ/EQ2 is the only thing funding them. They just messed with that big time. Smed himself promised that outside the station exchange servers RMT wouldn't hit other EQ2 servers.
It was dropped on them overnight with no notice at all.
Smed again was proven a liar when he said the "CU is here to stay".
Their new games they are working on are guaranteed failures the second they are released. No way in hell they will ever release a new title that makes it.

It is a big deal, but SOE has put the effort to keep the negative TCG discussion away from the official main forums by introducing some new rules which no one understands but trends show that all negative posting is dumped in a new forum called TCG (which no one visits) whistl pro-tcg posts are allowed to be discussed until of course it becomes negative and thus locked.
Smed has also gone to great lengths to asure people this system is "the future" and that they should be happy about it.

Of course Smed's future after his firing from SOE (which will happen soon as whomever is in charge of him sobers up) is to work at a 7-11 somewhere. He should be happy about it.

Quite honestly, I hope he ends up in the desert with a leaky bottle of water. The guy is reprehensible and is EASILY the most hated person assosciated with video games. Why SOE hasnt fired him is completely beyond me.
He has taken a company that used to be the best company in the MMO business and totally and utterly RUINED it. He has dragged the once good names of SOE, LA and the SW franchise through the mud and yet for some inexplicable reason, no one has had the foresight to get rid of him.
Most recently, his ineptitude has been responsible for what I would imagine is some SERIOUS damage to EQ2. This corporate mantra of "Reward Failure" really needs to go away. Idiots like this guy should be fired, with no severance in a clear signal to other idiots who have jobs they clearly do not deserve.
Honestly, I'd be very happy to see him with a styrofoam cup in his hand on a street corner. He deserves nothing less.
I believe his luck depends on the success of SOEs forthcoming games (the agency, free realms). If these fail to deliver he may very well be ending up at a 7-11 and whomever replaces him will likely have come to his senses and close down the nge - if sw-tor does not take care of that before.

Lol, ironically that is wyh I with amusement is enjoying this last RMT nonsence stunt. This will just accelerate $OE's failing buisness.
The sooner SOE and the $med is out of the MMORPG industry, the better for everyone.
