Why the fuss about UK IP blocks?

I mean...

I could understand if this game was a co-op based group game, but it isnt...

I could understand if this game was a 40 man raid based group game, but it isnt...

It is a solo based quest grinder...

The fact that UK people will just be able to play with UK people is such a bad thing? Have I misunderstood whats happening? I admit I havent read into it deeply, mainly cause this game stopped being top of my list a long time ago and there has been a ton of excellent 360 games out recently since this drama started that have taken up my time.

If I have got it right, I actually prefer the idea of UK only servers. I get so bored of EU players who won't type/ speak because English isnt their first language. This isnt all of them, but I have seen it enough to prefer a server full of people all speaking the same language. This is why I have played on US servers since 99 by choice.

By your own words you havent looked deep enough into it.

UK players will be on servers with US,Italy,Spain and central Europe

11 othe European countries will be on other servers, they include Holland,Belgium,Germany and Scandaniva.

It might not care to some players, like yourself but to players who are in guilds it will, also for players like myself that wanted to play with the guys in the UK it will.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

its also a twitchy pvp game. and if you knew anything about twitch games you'd know you need a good ping. and if you knew much about ping you'd know its bad across UK and NA.

Yep, happy to admit that, thats why I put it in.

But I see a little more clearly now...

But, you are right, my usual play guild isnt moving to this game as a unit. To be honest, 90% of them havent even heard of it, let alone pushing for a arm of the guild to form in it. The guild thing won't be a problem to me, as I will be starting the game as an indie.

On the ping issue, where are the servers to be housed? Surely not in the UK?

Its all just because of the many different publishers they have for the many different area's of the world....

It was the only way for them to finish the product.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

I'm from the UK and I'm pissed.

The fuss is because if the servers are for UK only, there won't be enough people.

If the servers are in NA and are for everyone, the ping will be crap.

I was following spellborn for ages, it looks really good and shows promise, but this was a massively bad idea for them to screw up the servers so badly like this. People speak english in europe, ffs.

    1. Holland+Belgium, where "everybody speaks english", belong to central europe, where "most don´t speak english".

    2. Germany, France (and often Spain, Italy) mostly have their own localized servers. When Holland+Belgium is a playable faction in "Civilization 10", they eventually also have one. Before this you meet more people from Benelux on international servers (if there is a choice) than from the bigger european countries.

The problem is, we europeans like meeting people from all over europe. Most of us are used to it from other mmorpgs.

Most of european guilds have members from all over europe, they are breaking up guilds.

The game is a little mmorpg with a small fan base and they are messing with it.

These are the problems. In my opinion 3 big ones.

I really hate that games have gone this route over the last few years. This is one of the things I think SOE has done accurately and that is allow everyone to play on any server they like. It is one client and you can access either the US or the EU servers. So you can have a preference to play where you like.

And really most of the time with the internet of now, ping times are rarely an issue but it is also about the games backbone. I am not sure what the difference was but in WoW my wife got better ping on the US servers than she did on the EU ones, this is in the UK, but because Blizzard really wants to localize their payments, her card started to be declined because it was a UK address on the EU servers so she stopped playing.

Yeap. I really prefer to play with players from all around world. Another thing is that some players play at night, so when it is international you can meet with many US players (if you live in EU), servers never empty...

If this is true I'm so importing the US or UK version... at least there will be some people that speak english...

I did alright on a Holland server in Soldier of Fortune 2 and Counter Strike. 100-110 ping wasn't that big of a deal, 130+ is when things are very problematic. It really depends on the server itself, we will see how it works out but to be honest I love playing with people across the ocean because let's face it Americans are douche bags, me included.

I take back what I said in the other thread, it sucks Holland is separated from the UK. The IP blocks don't make sense to me, I am sure Frogster sees what happened will hit them pretty hard.

    Playing: EVE
    and you better care

That won't work.  They aren't just blocking the game client.  They are blocking IP addresses.  So if you connect to the internet from Germany and want to play with UK, even with the UK client, you won't be able to.

Using a proxy most likely won't work either.  I'm sure you have to have a credit card with a billing address in the appropriate country before you can pay for the subscription.

This is such Bull **** tbh.

I was fairly new to MMO's when wow came out, but since then ive played with the same great bunch of guys through WoW, AoC, WAR and back to WoW with WotLK's release...

Im Irish (though from Northern Ireland which means my IP is a UK one :/ ).

I play with other Irish guys, English, Scots, Dutch, Swedes, Germans, Danish and a few more Euro nationalities.

So, to play Spellborn I have to play on a server with guys from different timezones, so they are in bed when i log in and vice versa...(no harm to the Yanks /hug :P )... my non UK guildmates are effectively BANNED from playing with me and and I with them due to stupid greed and jealously guarded split publishing rights?

All of this when in the past few months we've just seen the the launch of some of the most accomplished and excellent games in the history of the medium...

Do they want me to play their game?

    guess not.

    and so I wont.

I'll stick with wow, and my friends of the past few years.

shame. because I think we are all losing out.

IP banning UK players from EU clients will NOT translate to increased revenue for Acclaim.

It WILL mean less people playing the game in general.

someone really screwed the pooch here.

lmao what exactly does that solve bar a couple of free levels?

    props for your constructive thoughts

Edit: Just to clarify: if you subscribe/purchase the game and your not living in the Frogster/Mindscape territories you have breached the EULA meaning that your account status can without warning be revoked/barred/frozen/closed/kaput/b00m. Even if they over look it for now - things will change come the Acclaim  release, when Acclaim are whining about the other publishers not being strict enough about thier allocated territories and customers!
