I have played MMOs since EQ. I am fairly easy to please and generally found all MMOs I have tried to have done somethings right and somethings wrong.
Here is my beef with WAR. The quests and the map make the game WAY to easy. I like to explore and figure out quests in MMOs. I don't want the mini-map to show me where to go by putting a big red area with a location point on the map. That takes all the fun out of exploring and problem solving. I know WAR is primarily a PvP game and I think it has done an excellent job at that, but I can't stand the questing part of the game and won't be resubbing.
I thought LOTRO quests were good. I also thought EQ2 quests were good because you had to carefully read the quests at times to figure out where to go and what to kill.
Is anyone else annoyed at the dumbing-down of the questing side of the game?

Why open the map then?
Or better yet turn the quest map feature OFF.
it honestly felt the same for me overall. Compared to other quest games the little red markers did not make a big difference. EQ2, WoW, and LotRO I was able to find the questing area for the drops just as quickly because the directions are generally quite clear. Granted EQ2 had definitely some tougher ones that would take longer to figure out, but the small quests were pretty easy to locate. I do not believe I have ever needed directions for a single WoW quest, but from my understanding a lot of people use a quest mod that marks it on your map I believe?
Anyways what I'm trying to say is I can live with or with out it.
I feel your pain, its a little hand holding, wish it could be turned off.
That being said, I do not play WAR for PVE, I have consoles for that. But I totally agree, the newer generation games give players an easy route, just a shame theres not an alternative. (May not be quests dumbed done but other aspects as well) But thats the way the genre is heading. Even in console games, Im playing Heroes of Might ad Magic 7 right now for PVEing, and I have to say with all the skills and quests and dungeons, Im seeing very few new games with same basis. Just the way its goin.
But enjoy the next game you sub to, better to pay to play a game you truly enjoy oppose to a game you arn't sure about.
Enjoy : )
I did not even read your post ...and I dont need to...I will just say this : What is not fun for you might be fun for someone so...please stop trolling a game....ANY GAME ...for god sake

He does bring up a valid point and he is not trolling the game. I personally do not mind the feature he is talking about, but I can see others disliking it. Blindly defending the game is just as bad as trolling. Atleast read what the man has to say if your going to respond.

I agree, not reading his post, then comenting to what he thinks he said, 1 word, ignorance.
The OP was just stating why he isn't a fan of WAR, he just wants to see if anyone agreed with him. Unlike most of the other threads the OP actually posted something that wasn't repeated over and over.
So yeah, I think you Sidereus, need to be more considerate when accusing someone of trolling, ANY POSTER....for god sake
Enjoy : )
The OP wants to explore so much, why can't he explore the features of the UI and realize this sooner?
If you do turn quest tracking off, you'll really have to read the quest text 9 times out of 10 to get to the objective, so that's good.
I read the post after ur attempts at defending the troll ...and maybe the title was misleading
I keep what I said : something not fun for you might be fun for someone else....personally I like to know where things are...I dont mind reading the god damn quest but I just prefer not to...but you prefer the opposite...still you dont have to make a thread out of it so... yeah it's trolling IMO...but I've seen worst than that
and w/e the post I made could be copy/paste in any troll post or any fanboi post : it's all a matter of tastes...so is the world of games

Actually, this forum is discussion of the game, he was trying to discuss his dislike of it with people that have the same dislike or to see if he was alone,
The trolling threads are the doomsayers. They are the ones you need to copy paste that text to.
But yes you are right, don't like, don't play. A really good attitude to have with mmo's, shame not everyone feels as you and I.
Enjoy : )
1. Turn off the Map Feature .. thats right the red circles can be turned off
2. Explore without needing to be told too as in...your in an area doing a quest go explore around before you leave
3. IF you only do the quests offered to you ..your missing alot of hidden content. This content is not referenced by quests or even NPCs infact finding some of the hidden content is quiet deadly without a full force warband.
Exploration is not dead...Exploration has never been TIED to quests...I can't believe can look a person in the eye and say "i can't explore because of the quests" thats the dumbest crap I've ever heard. You explore to see whats out there..the quest are a way to progress. Exploration was never a progression feature in any game although WAR does give you Tome Entries & Unlocks for exploring so that is an alternative progression reason to go explore. Infact Tome Quests do not have a redmarker at all....nothing like spending 2 hours looking for a damn named creature because you know the Tome will give you a trophy or a new title.
