Really want to play this game....but....

Hey guys, back when this game released I played for about two months, and decided to move with my guild even though I enjoyed the game and happened to be one of the lucky few who never had and crashes or errors, etc. Lately though, from moving from MMO to MMO, nothing quite catches me and holds me as AOC did. I enjoyed the combat, the nice graphics, the gameplay, and zoning all the time didn't bother me a bit. I know, everything was great so why not join again?
Well its because of one thing. Population. I have no idea what the numbers are, I hear its good population on some servers, and then for those same servers I hear it is bad, so I never know what the truth is. The reason population effects me is because I enjoy social environments, passing by other players constantly, chatting with some new found friends, or grouping and taking out some quests together.
For example, I was reading through the official forums, just lurking about, and came across someone saying the most populated US PvP server (Tyranny) only had like, 70 people on in the range of 1-25. Surely thats BS right? Course I never know, so I can't judge whether it would be worth it to resubscribe. If I remember right the search tool in AoC is kinda screwy and doesn't tell you the whole amount of players in a certain range.
Well, any comments to quell my worries would be appreciated, like I said I would love to play this game again.

I guess around 100 in Tortage is right for the best servers these days. For the starting area, I think the number makes it fun to play. You'll see people running around, you'll find grouping buddies if you like and you'll get ganked in White Sands or Underhalls.
On my server, which is one of the top population EU servers, I've just been leveling up a new toon up to 40 and haven't had any trouble finding groups. Also world PvP is alive and kicking in Wild Lands and Conall's Valley.
An empty stretch seems to be 50-70. Above 70 you'll find a lot of players, but the mid levels are quite thin on population. That doesn't mean it's empty. I see people in Global looking setting up groups (for Ymir's Pass in particular) all the time.
remember they are merging servers soon so the population of the 10 or so servers that they keep should have pretty good populations
I wouldn't wait for server mergers any time soon. They've been delayed and probably won't be happening within a month or two at least.
Ask on the official servers for the most populated server. Most games end up like this... there will a vast majority of players at endgame (80), but you should always find a decent population for the first 30 or so levels because a lot of people play alts... but then most people get bored with them halfway through. It's like that with most games. Build up your friends list during the first 30 levels and especially pay attention to people who seem to be leveling at the same pace as you are. Once you hit the dead zone 40-70, hopefully you'll have at least a handful of people that kept playing their alts.
I'd personally wait until the server merges, they should be done by the end of January. If you don't want to wait, just join Cymmeria which is one of the most populated PVP servers out there. Sure, it has the RP tag on it, but you don't HAVE to RP, only if you want to.
Cimmeria is very poulated. Just start there if you are worried on population. Also Cimmeria has the most intrueging guild fights, so if you want to join with your guild join Cimmeria. Then again if your guild is shit you might want to considder a different server.
70 People online at the same time for lvl 1-25 seems like the number on a server on the evnings, do that sound so bad?
And anyways the merges are on the way now.
Go ahead and pick any server right now. It won't matter. they will be merged and after merges they are going to allow a 1 time transfer for free.
