I think the graphics are actually quite like wow, yeah there's textures, shadows and reflections but its a simular tacky generic fantasy style.

Just for the record I hate wow graphics but think cell shaded can be done alot better, it depends on the art direction. textures are good but in MMO's just mean worse perfomance/more zones and lag.

Aside the fact that saying some is tacky and  generic is redundant as hell, what would you rather see or what could be changed about the graphics to make them not look "Tacky". I mean Age of Conan has a wonderful art direction in some respects but it all fits into a category of some kind. I think comparing the graphics to WoW is laughable because the similarities just are not there. We have the usual races besides the wolf-bipedal types, but what other similarities do you see?

    Their won't be any zones.

They've said the graphics will be very scalable, and can run on fairly lower-end PC's.

That 4th screenshot, which is also your favourite, is just stunning.  I have to say DF graphics is not as detailed as AoC but it has a great feel to it, quite warm and lush and I prefer the scenary to AoC, seems to be more accurate on scale.   So hope this game is good but my expectations are right now the same for any new release, buggy, barely working and lots of trolling.  However if the mechanics are right then I will stick around like I have done with EVE and AoC.

    It's confusing.

Look at this. It looks awesome:

    http://www.darkfallonline.com/gallery/races/mirdain_06

But then look at the video from the Italians, and it looks kinda crappy.

Low res video, high res picture.  If you have a good computer it will look like the above screenshot.

"they" have said alot of things. do not always believe they. they also said many unrealistic things such as 10k simultaneous players, and playble on a single core etc. all of this tested presumably with 10k of their super smarter than human AI bots so they don't need beta testers. I laugh at they.

How is 10k simultaneous players "unrealistic" and what is this "many" "ect, ect" vague much?  They have had proffesional testers testing the game for over a year.......and they do have beta tester atm anyways so? I dont laugh at you, because thats not nice.

not saying wow were the first, no way. but the art direction is unoriginal, so much so that people are too used to it to notice.

I very much like the art direction of age of conan. if you look at the concepts they are superb atomically correct and mature with a orginal style. whereas DF is more of the same badly drawn elves and dwarves.

I agree age of conan graphics where bad gameplay design for an MMO, too realistic meaning zones bad performance etc. but it is possible (although surprisingly not really done) to have a realistic art style along with cell shading/good performance graphics. mirrors edge comes to mind. I believe bioware are approaching this to an extent with TOR.

pherhaps I exaggerate comparing it to wow, they are vastly different but they still feel the same visually. simularities I see other than same races are simular over the top armour, big shoulder pads with spikes.

they do not have 10,000 people playing the game simultaneously. read the noob beta previews. its a very small beta, a friends and family beta.

plus I find this post ironic as it is very non sensical. I can't help but retort, speak english much?

Yes, "they" said no zones. Why would that be fake? Vanguard did it, DAoC did it, Asheron's Call did it. I guess you're just too brainwashed on WoW.

I played Vanguard on a single core on almost the highest settings, this processor was OLD! Why would I not be able to play Darkfall on it?

You can clearly see from the Noob screenshots how the graphics scale (they become more cell shaded) so WHY can't the graphics be scalable again?

    You're full of fail :/

  • Adam1902Adam1902 Member UncommonPosts: 537

Yeah, that is partly true. However, it's not only a friends and family beta, they do only have probably just about 100 testers.

Yes I agree with you over the fact that yes fantasy games are oversaturated with the whole "Dwarves vs. Orcs Vs. Evles Vs. Men" Theme. Maybe we can hope for a game like Elder Scrolls online. In the ES series there is no Dwarves!

The still shots really do look amazing. Seeing what I have about the animations is a whole different matter. Hopefully, if launch goes well, they will improve the player animations.

  • CalamarCalamar Member Posts: 116

I think gameplay is more important than graphics, I can live with mediocre (read as normal) graphics just fine if the game is fun. Said that:

The last mmorpgs I have played all showed amazing screenshots but once I installed the game ,and played it at everything on high quality, no way those games looked  like the PR screenshots.

When screenshots look good everything is fine. When they look too good I can't help but turn skeptic.

In the era of Photoshop you can no longer believe screenshots not made by players.

That is my only worry: Massive and AAA graphics don't go well toghether with actual technology. I think that in-game graphics will look good but no way like some of those screenshots.

I hope Darkfall proves me wrong.

1.) Not having 10,000 people playing simultaneously does not make in unrealistic.

2.) A small beta it may be, but its not just friends and family.  I know this for a fact.

3.) Since you could not understand my post I will help you out a little.  You said "they" have said many unrealistic things such as 10k ppl, "ECT".  Do you care to explain? Or are you going to troll with your vague statments?

    4)  I suggest you stop listening to Alanis Morissette and learn what Irony really means. Seriously the English Dictionary and English lessons are your friend.

    "Ironic"

    An old man turned ninety-eight

He won the lottery and died the next day

It's a black fly in your Chardonnay

It's a death row pardon two minutes too late

And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day

It's a free ride when you've already paid

It's the good advice that you just didn't take

    Who would've thought... it figures

Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly

He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye

He waited his whole damn life to take that flight

And as the plane crashed down he thought

    "Well isn't this nice..."

And isn't it ironic... don't you think

It's like rain on your wedding day

It's a free ride when you've already paid

It's the good advice that you just didn't take

    Who would've thought... it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you

When you think everything's okay and everything's going right

And life has a funny way of helping you out when

You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up

    In your face

A traffic jam when you're already late

A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break

It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife

It's meeting the man of my dreams

And then meeting his beautiful wife

And isn't it ironic...don't you think

A little too ironic...and, yeah, I really do think...

It's like rain on your wedding day

It's a free ride when you've already paid

It's the good advice that you just didn't take

    Who would've thought... it figures

Life has a funny way of sneaking up on you

Life has a funny, funny way of helping you out

    Helping you out

To the original OP,take the first one out,it looks EXACTLY like wow.I tried to look very closely at each picture and i saw variances and some were just too hard to tell.

What i look for is seperation and detail.Things like,do the pieces of clothing look like they are WORN or a texture pasted over the body, not sure if you understand what i mean.I look for things like the pasted on hair dos and  things like do belt buckles look like belt buckles or a texture, again not sure if you understand what i mean. The player models of course are very weak,no biggie it is the cheap models i see in every mmo.You will only see detailed models in games like quake/unreal tournament,i guess FPS is the way to put it,and it is expected of course, because of the amount of players on screen

I will say that some of the pictures showed very good graphics[to keep the wording simple].They looked a lot along the lines of EQ2,except that first pick grrr[wow].It was near impossible to tell if anything was as good as Vanguards graphics, you need the whole game in effect to tell,lighting/shaders/shiny effects the whole works.

My honest opinion is that there is nothing wrong with the graphics ,especially considering the length of time this game has been under the scope.

Exactly like WoW? Well we must be looking at diffrent screenshots because I played WoW for a long time and the ones I have posted look almost nothing like it.

It's funny, the screenshots look pretty abysmal to me, yet the video's I've seen of the game look pretty good (save for the animations).
