Question about combat?

I am interested in this game, but my FPS type combat experience is a little low. Does anyone know how combat will work? Will I constantly have to be strafing and trying to run behind my enemy? Wil latency be a big issue (oh, I have 70ms lat and you have 250ms lat..I win)?

If u ever played oblivion or mount and blade u can get a good idea how the combat works
download Savage 2 (freeware), its faster and less complex than what DF will be, but it gives you the gist of it, and is probably the closest you'll get to DF combat (mount & blade is good too)
When I'm energetic I'm:

Yeah, I tried savage 2. It's sloppy, but hey, it's free. That is what I thought it would compare to. As far as Savage 2, I don't like it, but I hope it's a gameplay thing. I played some FPS awhile ago, and they were fun. Anyway, hope there is a free trial in the future.
Also try Mount&Blade. Its a free to try.
Melee is in third person - so if all else fails, and you still are interested in the game, you can be primarily a melee fighter.
