At least on Chilastra, there's already too many people trying to PvP in one spot. The server can't handle that many people fighting in one spot.
Maybe PvP would and should expand to more then just one spot - like it used to. Why should it be confined to one area? What's the thrill in that?
Just one more thing on the long list of problems with SWG. AFAICR the Empire and the rebels fought all over the Galaxy, it was not confined to one poxy little town on an obscure planet.

From what I saw on the vet trial the servers can't handle more than 16 people without spewing out nice big lag spikes. Which is weird seeing as the game is in essence a hell of a lot easier on the servers now that there's not a bajillion possible templates for each of the participants to have, it's just very, very poorly coded.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

Maybe, but I doubt it. As soon as one side dies they'll give up on that battle and go merge with one of the other groups until eventually everyones all in the same spot. Happens all the time at the moment.

Or maybe those that are lagging will leave for another spot with less people.

That's because of a complete lack of vision and bad game design!
The potential to make the GCW dynamic and meaningful is there, the devs continue to ignore this and I for one personally blame our dull and lifeless GCW being a major player in the reason a lot of servers are ghost servers.
Had there been a system in place that made PvP fun and engaging perhaps this mess wouldn't exist.

I don't disagree that the GCW could use a much needed face lift
NO money to the $$ suckers..There are better things to spend money on.

Yeah Kauri is essentially dead. Lowca is pretty much in the same boat. My original toon from launch was on Lowca.
Lowca & Tarquinas here, both are so freaking dead.
Sunrunner is dead also, yet it is on the 'transfer to' list. Tarq had more players (six more) online than Sunrunner when I checked during the vet trial. I guess Sunrunner would be a good destination for the folks who want to move from their current dead server, but still don't want other players around.
I wouldn't count on them shutting down the "transfer from" servers. I know it's a popular rumor, but there is nothing to back it up and even more to suggest they won't. While I take everything they say with at least a grain of salt, they have been very adamant about the fact that they aren't planning on shutting down any of the servers. They have also stated that the "transfer from" servers will still be available for character creation and will continue to list on the character creation screen.
The free character transfer promotion is simply that: a promotional offer. It doesn't fix low population servers, it just offers an out for people on specific servers who are willing to go. Because higher population servers are an option to transfer to, I don't expect to see many people opt for the low population servers available to transfer to. All that will be accomplished is the few higher population servers out there will have more people. By design it really isn't a promotion intended to help population.
While it would make sense to close servers rather than just give an option to become a refugee on an existing server, when was the last time they made a major decision that made sense? I wouldn't count on them closing any servers unless they specifically state they are. To think otherwise would be trusting to logic and reason, and the SWG track record doesn't make much use of that kind of thinking.

Then they should get better servers.

More likely they'll quit.
Just my advice, cancel your accounts don't watse time transfering to another dead server.
The game is dead inspect the maggots crawling around the corpse.
