I am fairly new to playing MMOs, the first one I played was FFXI, which was not what I thought it would be, it turned out to be a boring grind fest. I am currently playing LotRO, which I really enjoy because I am a huge fan of the books. AoC looks pretty good to me, but I have heard good and bad about it, but more bad recently. I'm looking for good PvP, good story line, and grood exploration. Is AoC worth trying?

I would say yes. I just re-installed and i am havign a blast. It's a great game with some bugs but the gameplay is definatly their. Join a good guild and try to get into the lore a bit. More content is going to be added soon. Hope to see you in Hyboria
I would say that AOC is more of a single player game there is nothing massive about it at all . All the areas are instanced and there are several copies of that one area. That is a major downfall for the game. The graphics however are top notch if thats your cup of tee.

Hi. In my opinion you should probably stick with Lord of the rings online since you are enjoying it so much. As far as I know it has a bigger population than Age of Conan (not completely sure) and it just released an expansion pack which seems to be doing really well! It is a much more polished product which has many qualities such as great graphics, atmosphere and content. Though there is not a whole lot of pvp. Anyway there are always many more great MMO's you can try easily by geting the trials. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
Thanks, LotRO is a lot of fun, and the community is good. It's just AoC looks pretty cool, I like the whole barbaric atmosphere it has going for it. I think I'll wait a while, maybe until AoC is a bit more established and after the server merges are complete.

I wasn't overly impressed with AoC. Great graphics, but the content just seemed like every other MMORPG out today.
For someone New to MMORPG, I can see that AoC would be a lot of fun. I would say try it!

Yes ! You should definitely play AOC.
The first months AOC had alot of bugs and missing content etc.
But now the game has improved ALOT, its a really cool and fun game, definitely worth trying
They have added alot of new content / fixes etc, the past months and in january they will add a new huge patch with new high and mid lvl content and ALOT of other stuff.
So i recommend you to buy AOC and try it, but choose a server with high population.
Good luck, hope i will see you in Hyboria !

Yes, you should try it.
You might not like it, there are never any guarantees for that off course but the game do have both great graphics and a good story.
It is still a bit thin on the high content side but there are 3 new dungeons that just hit the test server and hopefully will the new open lvl 75+ zone come on it soon too so it seems like they are filling it up.
However AoC needs a decent computer to run it, and 5 year old P4 will not do the game justice. With a good gfx card however it is beutiful.
Wait until DX10 is working correctly if your comp can handle it (vista 8800+ series). If not, no point in waiting. Just be sure to roll on the recommended servers, cimmeria (RP) or, Tryanny (not sure if its on that list).
Sever mergers will bring people back and make the game more populated.
The world isn't presistant and is heavily zoned, but its still an MMORPG. Each zone (instance of a play field) supports at least 50 people and the higher level zones support something like 150.

AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher
Ref please. You are as fare as I am aware of very very very off on your technical details. AoC zones have had as much as 1000s of people in one zone. There is absolutly no issues having more people than what you describe in a zone. And for heavily instanced...Not so much.. Tortage had what I would call instanced a lot, that was again one of the best received zones in the game. Post Tortage has much less zoning again. Bottom line is, I don't think most people perceive AoC to have much zoning.
Thanks for all of the feed back everybody. You are all very helpful. I actually found AoC for very cheap when went out Xmas shopping tonight so I decided to pick it up. I am going to give it a try and see how I like it. Thanks again everyone.

Absolutely.. especially if you read REH's Conan stories and enjoy them.. they have better pacing than any Lotr STORY

I'm not sure where all these people are getting all these bugs from, perhaps thier computers aren't meaty enough to run the great graphics engine or something. I played AoC for 3 months after launch (only quit because I got laid off ), and I only ever had 1 bug, and it turned out to not really be AoC's fault, I didn't have my sound card driver updated and got evil blue screen of doom. The only real downside I find about AoC is that people in the gaming community have already dismissed the game, and unfortunately won't give it a second change no matter what funcom does. I got 2 characters maxed in my 3 months of playing and loved every second of it. I'm kind of upset that they're merging my server (RP server) with a non-RP server, but I'm not playing anymore anyways. If I had the money, I would probably come back in a heartbeat, but currently I'm stuck playing f2p games
The bugs are usually what most people are complaining about. I just got a new PC, fully loaded to handle the heavy requirements of AoC, so if what you are saying is true, I'm hoping I wont run into any bugs.

I have been on for a couple of weeks and I am having a blast. The first part of the game is done really well and is pretty much done solo, even though there is nothing to stop you from grouping. I like that you can even choose to vist epic version of a zone to make things harder or worth a group. The game looks great and runs great for me. With all the "gloom and doom" people put out on the web about this game I was expecting another Vanguard mess. It just isn't the case. (Vanguard has cleaned up quite nicely too the last time I was on there)
Bugs? I am sure they are in there but I have yet to see any and only heard of 1 person in guild having one the whole time I have played. I think alot of "bugs" or performance issues people are still crying about are due to having a lot junk installed or running on their PC, not having their drivers updated, or just trying to run it on a PC that is below the required specs. I have a $800 PC and I am running it easily, with almost everything in settings maxed except a few distance sliders, and not a single problem so far.
Conan is a new MMO, along the way people seem to have this crazy idea that a new MMO is supposed to have every single feature other MMO's have right out of the gate. They forget all about the bumps in the road their favorite MMO had starting out or the fact that they have been running for a year, or even 10 with constant updates, fixes or expansions. Any new MMO would come up lacking compared to games that have that much development time under their belt already.
I say give it a try and don't bother reading all the negative junk on the web. Most of them are happy to tell you that they don't even play anymore so who knows why they put so much effort into a game they don't play. I certainly don't spend my days warning people away from WoW or FFXI just because I don't like them.
Ignore all the server merge complaints and just make sure to pick one of the recommended servers for what you want to play. All characters get free transfers to ANY server they want after FunCom is done with server merges anyway. Of course, even this isn't a good enough solution for some people.
Ya know, I have realized that most of the people who are complaining quit playing months ago, but are still spending all of their time in the forums...Where is the sense in that. I am giving it a shot. Like you said, it's a newer MMO, they can't expect a game to be the next WoW upon release.

Not trying to make anything worse....but if you know anything about this site, you'd know not to bother asking if any game is worth playing. No offense, but if you want to try it, try it.
With the amount of trolls/fanbois here, you're never sure what you're getting as honest info, let alone creating a thread to find out...
Sorry, not thought out really...IF you were REALLY trying to find an honest answer.
The best advice you can get it so try the game yourself and see how you like it.
Personally, I stopped playing AoC in October having played since open beta/early access. What finally got me to stop playing was the lack of contect at the higher levels and the continues bugs that kept cropping up with each new update or the lack of fixing some key bugs that were present since launch and the blatant dismissal of the community feedback from the dev team and producers. I've heard things have started to get better but not enough for me to come back to AoC.
On a side note, I've started playing LoTRO again and having a blast with the new Warden and honestly, the graphics in LoTRO are just as incredible as any of the newer MMOs that have come out within the last year.
Subotai
Good, meh, and bleh.
Good PvP? It's a win or lose for some people, but the general consensus of those that play seem to enjoy it. Good.
Good storyline? Well, for one point the story is extremely linear. However, it's pretty good and enjoyable. The quests are not in any way groundbreaking, and you will still have those "kill 10 rats" quests (I'd go as far as to say that they actually really push those grinding quests to a whole new level) but they are decent. You won't stab your eyes out nevertheless, and at least some of them have in-game talk scenes and choices, albeit those choices don't do jacksh*t. Meh.
G(r)ood exploration? As I said, the story is extremely linear. As such, the game itself is extremely linear. You will find invisible walls all over the place, and furthermore you will feel guided throughout the entire game. Probably second worst MMO in terms of exploration and freedom that I've ever played, first being Guild Wars. Bleh.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
Just yes. Just test it alright. Make sure you tell what you think. It's awesome!!
