... are the companies publishing for Aventurine honestly going to put up 10x (random guess shoot me) the number of servers to accommodate all the trialers. Remember this wont be just people who have an honest interest to try the game but also people just wanting to check it out, those not currently into a MMO, as well as a fair few kiddies from the F2P games. This game has enough buzz (or hype whichever term you prefer) to garner a very high interest.
There is a reason why major MMOs initially trial through buddy keys and down the line when there is capacity on the server after the outflux from launch a more open trial is introduced.
How do you see the logistics of this panning out.

If they have a good game, why should they be worried about how many trial servers they need? People will play it, love it, and stay.
A trial period shows they have confidence in their product.

Personally, I think the free trial will be on a limited basis, first come first serve up to certain number.....
But I'm totally guessing..

I agree with this.
It would not surprise me if paid accounts were limited at first as well.
no trial or open beta then no darkfall
I'm curiouse on what they'll end up deciding on what to do. I guess time will tell. Either way, they'll have my business for atleast a few months.
I like that outlook on it, and I agree.
If they have the balls to say no to preorders AND throw up a trial period, they aren't afraid of failure, they aren't going to lie to us, and they aren't going to steal your money.
free trial could just mean open beta for everyone
It's amusing that almost nobody in here actually touched on the subject of the OP.
The question is not, are they confident enough about their game. That is a totally different issue.
The question i, if they are releasing on a small scale at first, which they are as publically stated, then how would an "OPEN" Beta work out. Imagine everyone in the who is remotely interested in the game trying to log on. And not just the EU players who Aventurine will have to deal with at launch, but also people from NA, Asia, Australia etc.
Personally, I'd think it will be along the lines of what has been said earlier. It will most likely be a limited thing. Enough to stress the servers, but not enough to bring them down in a burning pile.

Final Fantasy 7
Rather than allow people to trial open slather they could just give subscribers the ability to send out an invite to someone.
That way the subscriber grows steadily and the server hosts grow the server farms as needed.
Nothing they do will stem the Tide of haterade and disappointement that the game will invariably spawn due to its limited release, shoddy developement and crappy play/graphics...

I think this is merely a conclusion based on everything we've learnt so far. Let's face it - the odds are stacked against this game. We're all just hoping it delivers in the face of overwhelming odds.

whaty ive seen and hear the gameplay is fine gfx arent perfect but who the hell is expecting a perfect game im just expecting a game that freaking works and its a sandbox skill based yadda yaddaa yadda thats all not perfection
i see imprefections in the vids but as long as its fun who cares swg precu was fun but it was no where near perfect
and them imprefections can be patched in
alot easyer than fixing a broken game
Open Beta and/or Free Trial will both be interesting on how logistically they plan to implement them. It will give some good insight on how well Aventurine plans to scale the game.
