will choosing a certain server reduce lag?

I kinda remember something about SOE saying that there will be different servers all over the country, will I have to find the server closest to me to get the least amount of lag? If so will they say where the servers are located at launch?

I would "imagine" that if there is a Server List in order of 1st available(oldest) to newest. Then the majority of players will hit the 1st few servers and it will be a trickly down effect after that.
That is only an assumption though...as I have seen in other similar type games.
Will players be able to "transfer" char to diff servers? Anyone know?
That would also effect the server loads.
