You play a beta to aid in the betterment of the game's genre, to be part of the developing community, and add your input on what should or shouldn't make it to release.
You play a beta to get experience for becoming a game QA tester.
If you are registering to play beta for fun, then you are doing it for the wrong reason, and shouldn't be applying for beta.
