We don't really care, we've heard it all before.
Please remember CoH is still new compared to Evercrap and Dark age of Botalot.
And yes, still new compared to SWG.

Go around, look at the way the capes move in the wind, see the new mission sets, like frostfire's ice lair or some of the new skull/hellion missions early on.....see them? Good.
Now imagine every indoor mission with interiors like that depending on the villain faction, going in with your SG, each one maybe with wings, capes, trenchcoats or jetpacks with fire beaming around them or 3 AR users each with a different looking gun and maybe one of them with the upcoming bow powerset, and out of a metal modern one of a wooden longbow, they've picked the modern one with awesome hi-tech arrows, then retreating to your SG headquarters after you've completed the mission, and go out for some PvP.
Go quit this game, go play ANOTHER fantasy game, like EQ2 which'll probably get messed up by sony in a few months anyhow with your customizable eyebrows.
Then when you get bored with farming, come check out CoH when it's been out as long as SWG has now, and see which you think is better.
THEN, if you STILL think it's so bad, you can make post after post, but until then just go and quit making drama posts crying about how a relatively new MMO "sucks" because you have no idea how long it takes to code such things.
Sorry just had to get that off my chest.

I quit CoH, but I didn't think it was a bad game at all. I just felt like I had accomplished everything the game currently has to offer.
I will check back in a few months though, and in the meantime I'll enjoy Anarchy Online.
CoH is a great casual MMO, and in 6 months it might have added the complexity that (IMHO) gives games more staying power.

Yeah, me too. I quit CoH, but I didn't write an essay why I did. I think it was a good game, and may return. But, like the previous poster, I felt like I had experienced the game even by level 20. Things just felt like they were going to stay the same, just ramping up difficulty. Hell of a fun journey there, though. Plus, the character generator is enough reason to buy the game in itself.
I quit CoH for the second time as well (subscription ends 10/24/04). Been in it about 6 weeks and had enough. The first time I quit it was after 6 weeks as well (3 weeks of beta plus 3 weeks retail).
The game is excellent as far as graphics, action, effects and the overall "flow" of the game (almost zero lag). All future MMO's should be compared to this one on those values alone (this coming from the typical MMO player who's done the whole EQ, DAoC, Planetside, etc. thing).
HOWEVER, I think the developers forgot to include one thing in their game, and that's FUN. Unbelievably, mind-numbingly repetitive. Nothing to really "do" is the simpliest way I can put it. Missions at level 4 feel the same that they do at level 40.
I always got a kick out of these elitist snobs who still use the statement to people who are quitting that you "just aren't high enough level yet". Or you are too "low", you don't know what you are talking about, just wait until you get to "upper" levels.
When I was below level 20, people said just WAIT until you get over 20. Well, when I got to over 20, nothing changed, still not fun, but still gave it a chance. Then they said when you get over 40, OMG the missions change, that's REALLY when the fun begins. Well, got to 40...and guess what? It doesn't feel any different then when I was level 4.
It's just the basic gameplay is flawed in its current state. There is no mystery. Nothing to explore. No surprises. No strategy in anything. No real goal other then getting to the next level.
I am not one to totally blow this game off though. The potenital of this game is so untapped it's not funny. Check back with this game in about 6 months and it very well might be the best thing since sliced bread.
I think when they add PvP to this game I will return. That may very well be the missing part for me.
Also, have you seen the 5th colum bases? Creepy man, I love it. So neo nazi..I just love smashing their faces with my boot.
I mean what other game can has NPC's getting attacked that can compel you to destroy to mobs even tho they no longer give experience to you? I just can't stand to see those mages taking someones lifeforce forcably :P

i agree 100% that this is not a bad game, only that it gets repetitive after 4 months, ive been playing since june, and i never felt the urge to renew the monthly fee because i felt there wasn't any more that was offered to me then that i had already completed.
I had a level 48 fire/device blaster. Also had a lvl 39 broadsword/super reflex scrapper. The game was fun as hell but i'm with everyone else here, my 3 month suscription actually ran out yesterday and I wasn't bothered at all. I got my moneys worth out of it, now its time to move on sort of speak. The sad part is, CoH was my first MMORPG game I ever played, and it was a blast - but truthfully,.. really boring. It was like playing "Skirmish" Mode in Quake3 with weak AI bots. It's fun for about 10 min laughing at them attempting to kill you, but then it gets old. I found myself doing this alot in COH... login, kill for about 15 min, chat alittle, then log off.
Since leveling is the only "real" goal in COH, the grind is defintally real. I remember hitting my 30's and feeling the grind. The boredom, the tediom. Ugh.. just painful thinking about it. And the most anoying part was it would take you hours of nonstop killing to level, and what is your reward? 3 new enhancement spots? Blahhhh... blah I say. I didn't care for the "template" layout at all. Was to linear for my liking. They shouldv'e done it where you had a choice for a new power OR the enhanement slots. Because powers are weak without the slots, so it wouldve made things alot more unique and made the grind alittle more worth it... without making anything "overpowering" like everyone kept fearing in CoH.
PvP wont save this game IMO. WHen i read on the boards posted by a dev that powers will remain the same for PvP (just certain powers like "taunt" or "confusion" would be tweaked for pvp) I pretty much lsot faith in any possible PvP in this game. There so many blantant overpowering builds/classes its almost impossible to even imagine a PvP in this game. The problem is power scaling.. some powers just scale way of the map. Like an example would be the power "AIM", a power all blasters seem to get. This 1 power alone boost your accuracy 100% for 10 seconds, plenty of time to get 4 or 5 attacks in - this 1 power alone can completly counter an ENTIRE super reflex scrapper secondary, all the powers combined 6 slotted in that secondary only give you a measly 66%, . I mean wheres the balance in that? I spent 300 hours on my scrapper only to find out that I'm going to be the bastard child in PvP? Easly counterable? Easly "debuffed"? Wee.. sounds like fun. There is literally "God Mode" powers in this game that I cant imagine going against in PvP. There are literally "You cant kill me" builds in this game that I just cant see fighting in PvP. Would be interesting to see how that would play out.
Luckly, I wont be there :P
BUT, since I don't like Fantasy theme based games at all, CoH did set a standard for me in what I expect in future MMORPG's. The next game I'm eyeing is Matrix Online. People are saying its like CoH but with an actual storyline. Sounds promising.
I enjoy undercutting people in the market place - it's the only PvP a crafter gets.
Stor...storyline? you need to read the missions and clues a lil more carefully.
What you say about the grind and levelling, that IS the only goal really, the only 2, maybe 3 MMOs I can suggest are WoW, trials of ascension and Planetside.
Planetside and WoW are pretty well known about anyway, but ToA you might want to check out, completely skill based, no levels and pure PvP.
Matrix online I was looking foward to, but simply the state of an alpha-like beta isn't promising.
And yeah try planetside if you havn't, imagine counterstrike with hundreds of other players, more futuristic weapons WITH vehicles, and without the asshats, but it also gets a little repetative.
Yup, PvP is a big part of the equation. I just hope they dont enforce it on everyone.
I know they wont do it directly, but if someone need some stuff in PvP land to be good in PvE land, well, we all know it is wrong.
I already feel the powers of the sapperslike villains!
I honestly hope current levels and system will be irrelevant in PvP(or trivial if you must link them), so everyone start at the bottom of the PvP system. But like I already stated, I wish the opposite will be true as well.

If CoH had PvP it would own all ya nothin else ^^
