Washington post is bashing CNN over the "ps3 is sinking ship" article...

I like this article better than CNN's. lol

snipet..

CNN has declared Sony's PS3 "a sinking ship" riffing off last Thursday's "plummeting" NPD sales results. CNN bases its gloomy diagnosis on Sony's sales plunge of 19 points, compared to sales in November 2007. That's a fair criticism, but it isolates a superficially negative statistic while ignoring the fact that this November only included two days of post-holiday sales (11/28 - 11/29) compared to last year's eight total (11/23 - 11/30). I'm speculating here, but if you could adjust for that difference, it's very likely PS3 sales would have increased, however slightly, year-over-year.

What's more, Sony rightly points out that the PS3 has seen hardware sales grow 60% year-to-date. I realize the PS3 wasn't selling well in 2007, so that figure's less impressive than it sounds, but growth is growth, any way you slice it. What's more, look at PS3 and Xbox 360 units sold in total worldwide, and Sony pretty much throughout 2008 has actually been playing catchup.

Once they can make the PS3 hardware a bit cheaper to produce, which shouldn't take too long, the PS3 will dominate the xbox.

It is superior in every way, just more costly to make.

It's already selling better in Europe and Asia, only the US still prefers the xbox.

I owned the PS3 for about a few days. Returned it and got an xbox instead. PS3 are built nice but, in my opinion, xbox truly outdoes the PS3 in game selection.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

I have no hate for the PS3, but really I can't pay that much money and then look at like 2-3 games that I want to play. It would be such a bad investment for me. One thing is I'm not a fanboy. I appreicated the sega and super nintendo i had got when I was a kid. PS3 for me can wait on that shelf. I thought about a Wii though.

Big pounce on CNN just to ultimately say that the PS3 PROBABLY sold more this November than it did last November in a comparable amount of time; and even then slightly.

'course the article doesn't mention if you tack on another 6 days of 360 and Wii sales alongside tacked on days for PS3 sales, the fact that the PS3 did sell slightly more than the previous year would pale all over again to whatever exponential amount more the 360 and Wii sold.

Whether or not the PS3 did better this year or not is important, but even if it did by three-digit percentiles, if its being outsold 3 to 1 and 9 to 1 by rival consoles, no reason to not call that floppin'.

The bigger theme of the articles against Sony I've read lately though is bad business decisions on Sony's part.

The Times mostly brings up the mishandling of the Blu-ray players, and the tickin' tock of downloadable movies killing the format already.

CNN cites worries about the Blu-ray business as well, but also touches on exclusives for the PS3.

And that brings me back to the Post article; there's a snippet criticizing CNN for not considering the HISTORY of exclusives for a console. That's a bit of a cop out to me to defend a poor selling holiday offering for Sony. I'm not even sure how its a defense considering last year's exclusives' sales are non-existent this year, so how much do they really matter towards this years' sales numbers?

As good as the PS3 looks on paper, so long as developers keep complaining about the difficulty of developing on it, and making good on their worries by releasing crapper cross-platform versions of their games, all that superiority means nothing.

And as for he PS3 selling more in Europe, that's been a point contested by Microsoft. Even now Microsoft claims to have had recent months of outselling the PS3 in Europe 2 to 1 or more.

As for Asia, for the first time ever this year I think the 360 outsold the PS3 a couple of weeks. Still doing bad, but Japan's sales are nothin' close to the epicenter of market penetration.

lol the only main points in the article is "the playstation franchise is doing better then the 360! (mentions PS2 and PSP)". Too bad were talking about the ps3. I dont hate the ps3 either but i cant help but laugh at a poor excuse of a defense. And i would prolly own one too if the price wasn't 500$-600$ (with games). I mean, i have enough entertainment on my 360 and pc. I cant pay another 600$ for a console and 2-3 games. With that kind of money i could upgrade my pc and buy 2-3 games.
