Need heads up on a high contrast monitor that's larger than 1440x900; adjustable; and under $400 with a good rep.
Ordered an Acer 19" but high resolution as a backup, but want a good main monitor that is wide enough for artwork (and the palettes), but also fast enough for gaming.
Anyone with advice?

Absolutely, try this one. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx I have it. Best LCD I ever owned. It has the best colors, contrast and response time for a 22 that I ever seen. Not to mention the near professional calibration software that comes with it.
Out of the box it is gorgeous, the controlls need some memorization to get used to or otherwise they are awkwardly placed.

LG also has some good monitors. Higher contrast ratio then the Samsung models, same response time and resolution. They are a bit more expensive though.
LMAO LG, your seriously telling me you prefer an LG panel display over Samsung. You either have no idea about LG panels and the failures or you just didn't bother reading panel reviews over the last 6 years. Philips displays suck horribly, not only do they have washed out colors and terrible blacks but they have more recalls and defects of any other LCD monitor company.
LG has the worst displays, they get your so called higher contrast ratio by cheating. They use there own measurement system to purposely inflat that contrast rating.
Your contrast ratings are ANSI Static and DC and LG uses it's own! I seen to many articles and complaints on various display forums about LG and these issues with poor performance.
I do my research when I buy a new LCD and mostly always am reading up to date tech on everything including LCD panels and displays.

My LG W2242TQ-BF came out in Jan'08 22inch is better than my Sammy 2253BW just down to the fact the LG came with NO dead pixels where the Sammy had 5, and lastly the LG has better viewing angles - both cost the same.
Samsung 245T is what I maninly play on which after investigating is better than the LG 24inch, just because it is a better panel.
I wouldn't be so quick to judge LG, when you match them up side by side in a store you can see the difference.
Go on amazon and you can get a debranded HP w2408h monitor for around $300. Your eyes will orgasim when you see the picture on it.

Not sure but make sure it has mercury in it. mercury is good for ya
This Acer x193w+ came in just now and I'm still trying to configure it (mostly trying to figure how to increase the font size, without it getting too pixelated). Had a 17" CRT @ 1024x768, and the default rez for this monitor is 19" is 1680x1050 (with an option to go even higher -- how? Can barely see the text now!). It's even higher rez than the 19" I had before, and basically doubled the width.
Biggest change from CRT to LCD is the text, although clearer in a sense, I miss the anti-aliasing to smooth out the pixels.
Just something to grow into.
Thanks guys for a heads up on other monitors to look up, as this one will be my backup.
