The Detroit Free Press is reporting that World of Warcraft will launch the week of November 22, just in time for the big Thanksgiving shopping weekend. Heather Newman of the Free Press broke the story in her Game Bits column Sunday.

One of the most anticipated PC games of the year now has a launch date.
"World of Warcraft," the online world game from the makers of the incredibly popular "Warcraft" strategy game series, is scheduled to launch the week of Nov. 22, the Free Press has learned.
Most stores have predicted Nov. 15 would be the launch date for "World of Warcraft," guessing that Sony Online Entertainment's behemoth "Everquest 2" would come out on or near the same day. But Phil O'Neil, president, North America, of "Warcraft" publisher Vivendi Universal Games, said the game will actually launch a week after the company's other hot holiday title, "Half-Life 2," which debuts Nov. 16.

Since the delay of the open beta, I suppose this was inevitable. Blizzard never said the game would come out on November 15, so we probably shouldn't be too dissapointed. Looks like it's going to be a good Thanksgiving though!

Indeed, should be a fun and warcraft filled Thanksgiving holiday for a lot of us.
im tired of all the guessing i just want to know for sure. i do know that i will be playing eq2 on the 8th of nov. i had not even thought about playing eq2 but with no wow news i got into eq2 beta and its not that bad. i'll still play wow but i think alot of people will go with eq2 just because of the lack of info from blizzard.
This has been all the buzz since yesterday. Since I've yet to see anyone else do it, I'll play the Devil's Advocate and ask one fundamental question. What makes Heather Newman so special that someone who writes a PC Technical column for a midwest city newspaper manages to get an exclusive on information that people who need to know have been clamoring for for months?
If I was a fansite owner or a major retailer, I'd be pretty ticked off that I wasn't made aware of this before some unknown in Michigan. I'm not saying that it's not true, but the fact that this is not an "official" announcement on Blizzard's site makes me skeptical.
"Soloists and those who prefer small groups should never have to feel like they''re the ones getting the proverbial table scraps, as it were." - Scott Hartsman, Senior Producer, Everquest II
"People love groups. Its a fallacy that people want to play solo all the time." - Scott Hartsman, Executive Producer, Rift
"I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If, on your journey, you should encounter God. . .
. . . God will be cut."

And with one big swoop, Caydiem squashes this rumor:
"We appreciate everyone's interest in determining when World of Warcraft will ship, but while we are rapidly approaching the open beta period and we are confident that we will meet our goal of shipping the game before the end of this year, nailing down an exact ship date is a little more complicated due to a number of factors. As soon as we have a specific date to announce, we will be excited to share the news with everyone. Please don't consider any announced release dates official until such an announcement comes from Blizzard. This is true for all announcements related to Blizzard games."

But who can you believe, the President of UV, or some Community person.
Everyone should keep in mind a few things here. First Blizzard is famous for pushing release dates, but even more famous for purposely leaking information. Blizzzzzzard is all about the buzzzzzzz.
Second, i've read alot of posts where people are using the open beta as a measuring tool as to when the game might be released. The open beta is simply a sneak peak or a try before you buy event. In no way is the open beta meant to be for "testing" purposes. In fact, I think it will be Blizzard's way of actually quelling the masses heading to EQII - Why pay for an unfinished game that's EQII when you can download and play for free WoW until release? Will work for me.
And last, I do think the parent company of Blizzard has all the power in the world - or at least so over it's own companies so if this small town papergirl actually got a scoop (family friend maybe?) from the president of the parent company then to me it's the word.
Besides how awesome would it be for Blizzard to say to EQII - "Ok I'll see your advanced release date and raise you by moving our back!" In this poker hand I'm betting on Blizzard.
Besides - who wants to as another poster put it, play EQII as it's not that bad? Would it be valid to flip that around to not that good as well?
