Hello everyone, I have been interested in LotRO for a few weeks, but I have been switching games quite a bit lately and I don't want to go out and buy this before I know anything about it.. In an MMO, I want to find a world. I want a world with good roleplaying and PVE content. I would love to have beautiful palces and people to just talk to for a while. I know, this probably is the MMO everyone wants that doesn't exist, but I'm just curious.
I played FFXI, but I just couldn't get into the game. I tried Coh/Cov and I really like super heros, but the game was kinda un-imersive; it was all costume contests. I currently play WoW, but I can't stay in the game past lv 36.
I am probably extremely picky, but the games didn't feel like the game for me. Is LotRO the kind of game where you can just sit somewhere and chat or roleplay? Does it have good PVE content? (I don't care for PVP) And most importiantly, is it a game I can play for a long time without losing interest?
Sorry for the long question post, you all probably read alot of posts like this. Anyway, thanks for your time everybody.

i *think* that LotRo might be the game you are looking for, but I recommend testing it first. Played at leisurely pace, enjoying the content instead of zerging throgh it, it should have pretty good continued enjoyment value, especially with the pace Turbine keeps expanding the gameworld in the free expansions.
For roleplaying, if you are from euro region, Laurelin is the server of choice and many people enjoy "drive-by roleplaying". In the US side there is no official RP server, but one of the servers is unofficial one - I think it is Landroval but I'm not 100% sure about it.
There isn't the perfect game out there, but in very many respects Turbine has done awesome work with LotRO.
Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...
If you are a casual player, you will love LotRO. I have only played 2 MMOs, WoW and LotRO. And by far LotRO is the better of the 2 for me. They have great quests and an absolutely incredible crafting system that is fun and useful. Ask around and find a Kinship to join and you can enjoy this game for quite some time. I don't regret buying this game one bit. Good luck!
Another thing, while I am not an obsessed raider in world of warcraft, I do like to run dungeons. Are there dungeons in LotRO that are fun? I've never even really been in a raid, like I said, I have never gotten past level 36... And how is the population of the game? Once again, thanks for helping me out people.
Yes you will like LotRO no doubt about it from what you described and yes landroval is the un-official rp server in US. But there is better population on that other server...the name eludes me atm.....just have to find a guild that you can relate to. And also there is a wide variation with the character class you choose. Again you have to find one that suits your playstyle. The minstrel has been known to cause a lot of people to stop playing the game. It is something about that little lute they play to attack mobs with..Hunter and loremaster is my choices. Although the new Runekeeper class is interesting i havent played the expansion yet waiting for my computer to get out of the repairshop.
About this unofficial roleplaying server, is the population decent? I love to group when I do almost anything. And also, is there a place I can learn about the lore of the game? All your help is appreciated greatly, keep it comming please.

Your wanting great content and great PvE makes me think of FFXI, but since you already said you couldn't get into it (hard to do in an older mmo without the right guild), I would also have to recommend trying Vanguard. Although LOTRO does have better Lore/Story than Vanguard, a lot of people, including me, have seemed to end up feeling too limited or just not interested after a short while. That's just my opinion though.
Everyone is going to have their own likes and dislike about any game. The only way to truly decide is to try them for yourself.

I don't really think there is any MMO on the market that will satisfy the items on your wishlist so going with trials in various games would be my suggestion.
