First of all, hi, new to mmorpg.com and eq 2 so nice to meet you all.
I'm posting about graphics really, however.
I don't really know much out fps etc., but on extreme performance (and yes, I AM sure this is the setting I have enabled) my game is running at 6 fps and very slowly, and I seem unable to fix this no matter how much I alter graphics settings. What is going wrong? My internet connection is fine, WoW runs fine on my computer, I have over 100 gigs of memory..
Thanks in advance,

Again I would appreciate it if somebody could give me their advice on this issue, as it really hinders my gameplay.

first of all you are not providing any information on your computer. How much RAM do you have? Processor? Video Card? the 100gigs of free memory is your hard drive free space, unrelated to your memory. Running wow means nothing, since the game can be run on a very old computer, and the eq2 graphics are very different than wow graphics
second....horrible sig :P
eq2 has a piece of shit for a engine use low settings remove shadows and crap
perhaps you didn't read what he posted, he said he was using extreme performance.
First of all, play on a US server. By some reason I and everyone else I played with get really bad lagg on EU servers... Just try it and see if you performs better there...
What computer specs do you have? Ram, processor speed and GFX card? EQ2 uses more resources than Wow but a decent P4 runs ut ok at medium with a 7000 serie GFX card, A dual core with a 8800 card or more runs it with all sliders at max (I had 4 gigs ram then however).
About all that can be done, considering the game not only has never fixed memory leaks, it believes the page file is faster than on/off loading graphics in video memory (and the devs preference to use the proc instead of the GPU, despite it's easier to get a faster AGP videocard than buying a whole new system to use a newer processor). Even F.E.A.R. doesn't use that large of a page file, despite it's larger and more detailed textures and poly models.
Get 10 people in a GH and watch it take longer to load the GH than loading F.E.A.R. on extreme graphics with but 1GB of system and 128MB of GPU memory . Very poorly optimized.

We need your stats honey. Whats the stats of your computer?
two possible issues right off.
1. Memory, on extreme settings eq2 uses a lot of memory. Like over 1.5gb which on a 32 bit system with anything running in the background is gonna cause you to start swapping. This will cause really bad performance and lagginess. Reducing to a lower setting and looking at task manager to make sure you have plenty of ram will help.
2. I can't remember the exact term for this setting. But there is a setting for something like growncover displacement or something like that. I'd have to look it up. But this option is a HUGE cpu hog and will drop your fps significant'y and makes almost no diffence in game. Disable this. It is under flora settings. I think it is floral displacement.
Beyond that you will need to provide your specs. eq2 is a lot more resource intensive then wow.

Please list your computer specs so all of us computer techs can help clairfy your poor FPS problem..
If I have to guess, I'd say your entire system has to be VERY outdated,, and by very, I mean your PC is probably a good 5 years old or older.. OR, your still using dial up connection which is very very bad to play ANY MMO's...
If by some miracle these ARE NOT the reasons for your poor FPS, then next thing I'd guess is the amount of RAM you have.. My guess is that right now you probably have no more than 512, which qualifies as the minimum amount of ram to play EQ2, but those who play with only 512 normally experience horrible lag and very slow performance.. If you have an old machine, I'd recommend to at least purchasing a 1 gig chip of ram, as I'm sure your PC probably has two chips of 256 gigs of ram.
I recommend you do the following.. Click on Start, followed by settings, then control panel, then performance and maintenance, followed by system and list what everything says.. That will probably give us a better insight as to whats wrong...

Use LOW settigs - do NOT use extreme. Then slowly tweak EACH setting upwards (test each one). That way atleast you will know when the FPS drops to unplayable.
Sorry went away for a few days -thanks for your help so far.
My computer is actaully 2 months old and quite good my most standards, and my internet connection is very good.
Not sure what sort of information you will find useful, but here's pretty much everything I can find under system properties:
HP compaq dc5800 small form
Intel(R) Core(TM) duo CPU
E4600 @ 2.40 GHz
1.20 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM
There isn't much there but can that help anyone?
I'm farely sure I have a lot of free space, as my computer came with 222 GB of memory and I only have about 1000 songs or so and otherwise nothing else installed on the computer.

2 months old? should be capable.
what about your video board?
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
Have you tried getting the drivers? Not sure if your computer came with video card drivers and such.
Yes, but what kind of video card do you have? EQ2 has some serious problems with the Geforce 8800. Both SOE and Nvidia have been working on finding the problem for months but can't find it. There are some work arounds that are posted on the EQ2 forums.
From what I can tell, my video card is "intel(R) Q33 express chipset family". That's the only sort of info. I can find on that.
Thanks again for your help.

You have an Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3100. The equivelant of a GeForce FX 5500 series
buy a new video board, like an nVidia 9800 (even an nVidia 9600 would be better) or an ATI 4850 and disable the onboard video.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
yeah the problem is your onboard video card, onboards use your ram and are severely gimped in performance unfortunately.
extreme performance isthe lowes vid quality/highest performance setting
While does are not impressive stats we been running EQ2 on a lot less, even on a P3 so it is not on your end.
The problem is that SOE Euro servers lagg, they are old crap from the original EQ and can't handle to well.
Solution: When you start up the game you first get a picture, in the corner it says euro server, change that to US server and your lagg will be gone. My entire swedish guild moved to US servers quick because of the lagg on the EU ones.
Don't take this wrong but your video card sucks. Thats the problem.
Don't take this wrong but your video card sucks. Thats the problem.
We been running it on a geforce 3 card without any lagg on extreme performance (same as him) so that is not the problem, the GF3 are way worse.
Thanks to everyone for their help, I will be getting a new video card some time soon, and also going on to an EU server atually improved my frame rate by about twice as much.

Yeah, I don't know what Loke666 is talking about. EU servers much faster for me also.
