GeForce FX 5200 & EQ2

AeryithAeryith Member Posts: 162

K. Since I've seen a lot of posts and people having/wanting to get this card, I'll just make a separate post on it, being a beta tester and having that card. Please remember this is not the best card for playing, but most people buy it because it's cheep (around $80) and it works.

My system incudes:

1 gig ram (highly recommended)

P4 2.4

120 gig HD 7200 rpm

GeForce FX 5200 128 mb

*edit: forgot to add that my zoning times are between 15-30 seconds. some people are complaining that it takes a min + to zone. that's got a lot to do with your memory/hard drive too.

Frame Rate:

High Graphics:

The Ruins - small instanced zone

Idle - 20

Fight -  17

Crowded - 16

Commonlands - huge and known for laggyness

Idle - 17

Fight/Crowded - 11

Extreme performance

The Ruins

Idle - 40-45

Fight - 40

Fight/Crowded - 38

The Commonlands

Idle - 40

Fight - 37

Crowded - 35

So please don't flame the use of this graphics card. People know it doesn't even compare to the 6800 (/drools over it), but at least you can play EQ2 with enjoyable graphics.

Disclaimer: There are also comparable graphics cards out there that will do the same/a little better around the same price. Your job is to research it. This is just about what I know. I'm not trying to promote this card, just give info on it's performance.

    Good post.

I myself wonder why some people rush to buy new graphics card when they can handle EQ2 with their current one.Espically since the current crop of cards still can't handle the highest setting to an acceptable level.

A friend of mine is playing EQ2 beta with a R9700pro at medium setting(balanced) and is running is very very smoothly.

Yet he went and bought a 6800GT to see it better .

Now the problem is in 3-5 months a new gcard which will handle EQ2 better at highest setting will be out .

It will cost him about the same to get that new card as he paid now only he would see things better.

I personally am quite happy with my OCed 9800pro and will not be upgrading till next Gcards come out.

Sure i want to see the current highest setting in combat but i rather have a smooth play of it if i am to splash out big money for it then a jerky play if i upgrade now.

I really like it. I'm glad I got to play it before reading what everyone else has to say about it. A lot of people have been bashing the 'technical' downfalls of the game, but it's still beta. Even if it wasn't beta, it's not as bad as some games I've seen and they're quick about fixing things (even if it causes another bug to be fixed hehe). The leveling, exploring, questing is really fun. There's just so much in it, I haven't even explored half of what the game has to offer. I love finding little surprises a long the way, like the mobs having voice overs in combat and having a strategy against you/your group. The lag isn't too bad as long as you're not in the big zones (Antonica, Commonlands), but they're fixing that soon. I like the instanced zones/boss mobs so there's no over population and no waiting for an hour for a boss to respawn, competiting with other groups/raiders. I don't know if this is the case for higher levels though. The easiest way to solo though this game is to do the quests. They're small, simple, and sometimes give very good stuff to sell and wearable armor. The only time it gets on my nerves is when the game comes down, but that's expected of every beta.  Once everything is smoothed out (going live), I won't be able to stop playing. Heh.
