Anyone who has purchased the Lifetime $199 Membership still playing?
Just curious. Do lifetime members feel their money is well spent or would they have gone with a standard membership?
Would any other games out there be worth a lifetime membership model?
Thanks in advance all

I don't think Ive seen a poster here who said it hasn't been worth it.
Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

I have a friend that bought it when it came out and he still plays it... so it was worth it for him. My other friend was thinking about getting it then quit so it was a good thing he stopped. So it all depends what you think you have for the next 12 months. if you think you have lots of time too play with the game for the next 12 months then it is worth getting the lifetime but if you dont think after 1 month of playing if youll play alot then it might not be worth it for you.
lot of my guildies (we are multi game guild) have lotro lifetime membership. They played for about a year, and than they started playing on and off. Now they are all back for Moria
All in all its a great deal. And nobody ever complained to have a good MMO that you can play whenever you want without ever worrying about subscription.
Whether or not other companies should go with a Lifetime membership model on the other hand. I personally do not think so unless the playerbase is pretty big. Content and development is driven by the prospect of revenue and lifetime membership deals means one-time cash-ins with little or no return revenue apart from those generated by full fledged Expansion packs (which will be costly in their own right to make).
If viewed from a marketing point of view I think the move was clever though. In my experience - I buy all new MMOs - all MMOs have something in them that will entertain you for that first month and more often than not for two to three months. There is a feeling of adventure, excitement, exploration, and learning that makes any game seem fresh no matter how much it might resemble other games in the genre. It only takes a single whimsical moment where a player during that phase of wonder thinks, "This is the best game ever!", and Turbine has an instant revenue boosts equal to that of about 12 months subscription play.
A crucial element to consider though is that a Lifetime Subscriber has no leverage to express their discontent with towards the developer. They become customers that the company can partly ignore. They can instead focus on luring new players into the game with bonuses, free items, promotional offers and so on.
There is an element of word of mouth but if a Lifetime Subscriber says to prospective players that only new players get all the nice stuff, I'm not so sure who would be put off by it. And it is the best way to encourage Lifetime Subscribers to open up an extra account.
As consumers I think we should look at these things with a critical eye and make level-headed decisions.
I was sorry I didn't get lifetime sub from beggining. As a founder I could pay even lower. I play this game from first day and during that period I payed more then the price for life sub was.
But all that preordered MOM got special offer for life sub for 149$ and of course I decided this time, couse i will be playing LOTRO more then 1 year atleast.
Also I can now afford sub for another game. Still have unused WAR key or might return to AOC in near future.
I have gottten my moneys worth. I played from release till last May then took a break from it till August and have been playing every day since. I am sure I will take breaks off and on in the futeur but this will be my main game for several more years.
I miss DAoC
The only thing that worries me about lifetime....
Its not my lifetime, but the lifetime of the game..... If they ever pull the plug.....
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
well worth it. its still the best mmorpg i've ever played.
Good Point. I think that was one of the main criticisms of their bold move. However, looks like Turbine has done a good job with the game. I have faith in them again.
So would all of you consider another lifetime subscription if Turbine came out with another game you would be interested in (In other words, you have enough faith in Turbine to perform well) ? Or would you really research / follow the game before considering it (doubtful if Turbine can make another hit)? Or hold onto your dollars (our economy being what it is in America and all )?
I played this game in beta and thought it to be solid. I just didn't have the time to committ to more MMOs now I am kicking myself in the rear..
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Never felt sorry getting a lifetime sub and if Turbine made another title available with the option I would consider getting it pretty strongly, depending on the game of course. If it was AC remake, immediately as I missed that gem of a game at its heyday.
Of course if Turbine does Smedleys down the drain they go...
Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...
Bought the lifetime at launch and I'm probably playing more now than I ever have before. Absolutely worth it.
Yup, stil really pleased here too
I was in beta, pre-ordered and got a CE, founder member + lifetime sub.
Only thing that is a tad disappointing a year on is the quality of the CE, compared to my WAR one it just doesn't compare! Still they all look good lined up in a row along with the AoC CE, hehe
I too was in open beta and decided to get the lifetime as soon as it was released and I'm happy I did...nearly 2 years later and I'm still hooked...and saved myself a load of money...with more to come.
I had the pre experience of another CM game (Codemasters EU) DDO though and I had faith that CM would manage the EU side well enough.

The (discounted) lifetime subscription is about the same as 1 1/2 years of normal subscription. So it's worth it if you play longer than that, and not worth it if you play less.
For those, who have been playing almost continuously since release, it has already amortised itself. They can basically play for free from now on; so from that point of view it doesn't really matter much if/when the game is going downhill. Still, I would expect LotRo to do well for another couple years, so getting the lifetime subscription right now should still be worthwhile -- if you intend to play over 1 1/2 years. Know yourself
If you played the game for 14 or more months it's been worth it. Even if you stopped playing, if money ever gets tight, you could always go back to LotRO and not have to worry about a monthly payment.
I wish all MMOs had this feature. Even further, I wish all those different companies created an equivalent of SOE all access. Id love to play a week of WoW, a week of Eve, a week of Planetside, a week of LOTRO etc etc. But i know this is practically impossible to achieve
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I sort of regret it.
I started playing in July and at first, I loved the game, the community, etc. So I paid for the lifetime sub because they had a speciall (only $199, not $299).
But I grew more and more disenchanted with the game. The gameplay got worse, fewer interesting quests and more just grinding. The community that i thought was so friendly pretty much disappeared (they were mostly free trial players and the like). So I no longer could find groups for any of the few interesting quests I did have.
For a while it got to be I'd go whole sessions without seeing any other players, or hearing any chat on any channel.
I'm still not thrilled with the game, but the quests have picked up somewhat in their interestingness. And I managed to find a group for a quest I had been stuck on (2.3 and we did the rest up to 2.8, where I disconnected, sadly, so I need to find another group to finish, which isn't going to be easy)
But that's the nice thing about the lifetime sub - you don't have to worry about playing the game to get your monthly fees worth. You can always come back to it when you want. Just want to play an hour a week? Fine, no need to pay $15 for that.
R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there
Just to through this out...
I will never subscribe to another Turbine game ever!
I hate Turbine and the way they treat their Customers/Players.
People would be more willing to buy lifetime subs if they got the difference back when the game gets pulled.
100% happy I did the Lifetime deal. Turbine really is the best MMO Developer. We get TONS of free content every 2-3 months and that is so RARE in this industry. It makes the game exciting. And they have Yearly expansion planned .......which makes my heart go pitter patter. I LOVE new land masses:)
I spent over $500 in monthly fees in AC and $200 in fees for a year in WoW. It was a no-brainer for me to do the Lifetime.
I think they shot themselves in the foot with the deal because the people who would actually buy it are the people who would have also subbed to lotro until the end of time. All this means is when the game is old in a few more years and the only people left playing it are the major fans who mostly have a lifetime deal then wheres the cash gonna come in from?
Though I spose Lotro will go into micro transactions by then anyways.
The idea is good, monthly fees are just a bother, when I played a game for a month I know if I think it's worth 200 bucks or not.
I would like if more companies made this offer.
LOL!!!
Tons of free content? All of the FREE content you got for the first year was content that should have been there from release.
i purchased a lifetime account. Its nice to know that no matter what i always have a game sitting there waiting for me to play no matter how much cash i have on me. I do go for the odd month or two in the game at least once or twice a year and i find it good fun.
so yes i think it was well worth the $200. If any other MMO's (decent ones) offer a lifetime account i would seriously consider getting one too.
