Thinking of joining EQ2 but scared to....

So i played back at release and quit for wow, Im afraid to play well 1 its a game from SOE, and 2 the stupid choices that SOE is making for the game. is it really that bad. is it to the point of another SWG? (R.I.P. SWG) EQ2 and most SOE games have so much potential. But with the Idgits behind the games doing what they do and Lieing to their "fans" and customers. well its hard for me to even want to try it. I know it sounds weird. anyways. what does everyone think?

I believe there is a trail you could try if not get the new one out it has all the expansions included. 30 days included game play.

Just keep in mind that with SoE what you play tomorrow might not be what you are playing today.

If you are aware of that and you don't care, then why not play it?

Its definetly not like SWG. It's polished and full of content, you'll be amazed. Might be a bit hard for a new player to break into the tight community tho, at least in Europe.

Have you ever logged into a game and you could just feel death oozing from every corner of the world. As in your stuck in a coffin and cant get out, a coffin that has been thrown into the ocean and if you dont get out soon you will drown?

Well that is how I felt when I played EQ2 the last time.

I quit it a few months ago like maybe 3 months ago, but everytime I logged into that game the world just felt cold and dead.

Well that's why I don't play any of their game anymore.

I've been stuffed with NGE first and then RoK (the EQ2 WoW expansion)

If that's a big issue for you too, then you should not start playing.

SoE cannot appreciate the fact that people invest in their characters and want to play the same kind of game for many years.

I would love to play Vanguard, but I am not going to invest time in a game I am not sure will play the same way tomorrow as it plays today.

    But that's me.

Well I dont know what the last poster is talking about... I have been playing eq2 since close to launch... I find it the best game that I have ever played online.  Cold and dead, that is a bit over dramatic.  As with anything else, the game will be what you can make of it.

The best advice I could give is to do the trial.  If you like the mechanics and how things are done, then you will probably like the game.  Then, the next best advice I could give is to find a nice guild.  Dont try and get into the bigger guilds.  I think you will just get lost amongst the crowd if you do (or heart broken when they turn you down).  Look for a smaller guild.  You will always find new guilds looking for players.  There, you will get a good education on the game basics.  The other perk is that you will have someone to talk to, ask questions, and possibly even guide you around a bit.

I am on najena server.  The pop there is generally helpful with a good mix of people from all around the globe.  You will always find someone around doing something.

Personally there isn't much of anything they changed that made me quit EQ2.. so if you are "bored" or whatever term you want to use.. at least try it.  I say that as apparantly you are interested.

I think the game was more interesting at launch.. when I last played it was still "playable" and /or enjoyable.  I honestly don't care about the Station Cash or LON crap.

The trial could be a good idea because you get X days free...

    and..

If I read your first post correctly you tried the game at launch and quit?

Well if you still have that account it will have all the expansions on it (except for this last one.. but up through RoK).

At least it should.. every soe account I had (my first eq1 account hasn't been active since 2001 and never played eq2) now has Eq2 and all its expansions.  My SWG accounts (we had 9) as an example never had EQ2 in any way.

So if you still have that account and decide you want to play.. you should have access to most everything for just a monthly fee.

I'd want to be thinking I was going to stick around a while before I'd bother with the last expansion.. but that's just my opinion.

    I think i see what you're asking.

Well, EQ2 as a MMO is a good game....i enjoyed my time there very much and the population, for the most part, is friendly and helpful (Antonia Bayle server here) so if you're looking for a MMO to play...EQ2 isn't a bad choice at all.

The trial however has been, for lack of a better word, gimped.....no access to mail, no access to your starter house, no access to /tells.....all thanks to the lovely people who turned EQ2 into a money-making operation, i also believe there is a level cap at 20?....but on the plus side you can avoid the isle completely now and just go to whichever hometown you choose.

SoE hasn't changed, some would say they've gotten worse....i left EQ2 after two years of dedicated playing because i no longer agree with their company's standards or practices...but this has been going on with me for a long time, since SWG.

So if SoE bothers you then i don't see the need to feed them any of your hard earned money, but if you can look beyond that and want to play a good MMO...well, EQ2 is a good bet.

Edit: slight error on my part...isle can be avoided unless you pick Qeynos or Freeport as your home town...but you can leave it straight away.

I don't think you should even bother signing up.

SoE slyly added in an item shop a few months after their latest expansion hit shelves, none of their players were even informed that they were thinking about it. The servers were just dropped and it was added in the game.

Way to go! That's even better than changing the combat, or all the other changes that've happened to this game. Woohoo!! Item shop overnight ON TOP OF a regular monthly subscription! It only took about 4 years later to implement this nice little game changing feature. Want that new armor that doesn't share the same regular boring designs? No problem, just use Smedbucks!

Yeah, I really like the fact that SoE are finally doing something about the lack of armor appearance that everyone has been complaining about since the games release. What a smart move to implement them into Station Cash instead of just regularly adding content.

Maybe their armor takes SO LONG to make because of all the different "body types"  for the characters that we have to pay RL money individually per outfit just like IRL. (sarcasm)

OMG! How smart! Smed is totally leading the future in MMOs.

Also understand that in a couple of months a major change in game play will be introduced, what's called now "Fighter 2.0". It'll be changing how folks have gotten used to of playing fighters, and how support players will support them in groups and raids. It's a major change, and one that has got folks already upset before TSO was released.

So let's just say those who care about their characters, care about their future playing their decked out characters, aren't happy campers now.

Those changes (especially to Paladins) along with RMT were the prime reasons I cancelled my account. Had no incentive to even want to level the Pally to level 80 (was at 74), to only have a class that is hard to get a raid slot "end-game" to almost never will get one in the new setup.

SoE's solution for"game balance" within classes is to nerf the opposite class. Promote dev favorite classes (no doubt why Beserkers will take the Paladin's role -- and don't deny it Aeralik). And take a wrecking ball to what's left of the game and how it's played with other classes. So with everyone now going to have to manage their own hate, you can bet the Assassins and Wizzies are going to be on a war path when their trusty Pally friend no longer can keep the mob off them automatically (and oh, how everyone is going to die faster).

Truly some of the EQ2 devs need to be fired. They keep tweaking the classes so much, that no one is happy, as they keep making it worse.

Screw SoE and with a 10ft pole, even.

Fighter 2.0 is a different subject than nerfing amends. It's a complete overhaul of combat mechanics, and will cause more grief than not.

The best quote on that linked thread...

"I hope the Dev who proposed THIS Change to Amends committed Sepuku already..."

But the best thread on the Amends issue is on the Pally forum...

Amends ~~ Speak now or loose it!!!

EQ2 is still the same game I've been playing for several years. I've returned several times after long breaks and always find positive improvements. You may start to see a population drop from the new wave of haters but in reality it wont make much difference. The most you'll see is some free server merges popping up.
