Character customization? How is it?

JohnarkJohnark Member Posts: 901

I guess I have another question to those who Beta-tested the game or managed to get to the character creation menu.

Do you have a lot of variety?

Everquest didn't.  I tried the DaoC 7 day trial and that one lacks customization too.  I heard Lineage II is horrible too.

Strangely enough, the two MMORPGs where I've invested a lot of time into were Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes, and according to my friends, I fell apon the two only games with the BEST character customization you could ever find in a MMORPG???

Will Everquest 2 have a great character customization?  I hate... hate hate hate hate hate hate hate... hate... walking and meeting my twin brother.  What's even worst is when I start seeing twin brothers everywhere.  It drives me crazy.

Or heck, how does it compare to Worlds of Warcraft?  I saw WoW's customization for elves... I was disapointed (And is the main reason why I'm buying EQ2 instead of Wow).  Please tell me EQ2 is much better!

Seems pretty good. If you really want to know then grab yourself a preorder box for 5 bucks. it includes the character creation module. There are mucho facial changes, quite a few hair and beard type options, etc. The only thing I dont like is you cant change the height-weight ratio, theres only one size slider.

Personally, id recommend NOT getting the pre-order box Character Customization CD. This is because since they released that, there have been alot of additions and changes in the Character Customization, and you might even end up re-doing your character when you get the retail version.

Aha, see now I was a little worried about that. Good to hear tho, what sort of stuff was added ?

Human Female looks ALOT better, new hairstyles, tons of stuff. Maybe En1gma can post some screenshots image

Ya I agree. They've changed some characters, and they also hinted to adding more changes in the future. The characters I have saved might be redone anyways. /shrug

As far as the level of customization, it's NOT like Lineage 2 LOL. That was just horrible. WoW is just a tad better than Lineage 2. WoW might add more customization later too. Who knows. image I'd like to have as much freedom as in SWG, but it is nice and very easy to seperate yourself from others, except for your weight and female's chest size.

    EQ2 creation is pretty in-depth.

In between of Coh being 10 (the best at option and character creation) and Lineage ][ being the worse 0, I would place EQ2 at about an 8.

They took out that silly putty look from their hair plus added some nice features to the skin choices, noserings, etc

I would venture to say it is similar to SWG but not as good as COH. Just my opinion. The hair is definitely better in beta than on the character creation pre order disk, that stuff was awful.

    I miss DAoC

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I feel a lot more better now knowing that EQ2 has an above average, maybe even excellent character customization.  I'll skip on the pre-order, I'll just buy it in store when it's out.

And if En1Gma really rates 8/10 for customization... well, booyah. image

    I can't wait!

Have they made the hair look more animated and lifelike? Or did they just improve the textures and models from the play-doh look? Oh, and have they added more hairstyles instead of some of those really stupid ones the different elf races had. (I really doubt seeing anyone seriously using some of those on the character)

Aeryith made this so give her the credit.

But here's an answer to one of your questions:

    http://www.goth-angel.com/movies/AI.wmv

that video shows you how natural they make the hair in beta. Also, I've played many many races with max settings at times and I haven't seen the playdoh effect.

The only time I seen remotley a playdoh effect is when it rains. Everything literally gets wet. They haven't quite nail it down with visual graphics but how many mmorpgs have you seen where when it rains everything literaly gets wet?

This was taken on "high" settings...one under Maximum. If you can see the rock formation is wet. The screenshot doesn't show this but the path is also wet and the rain "splatters" when it lands to the surface.

Thanks En1gma, the video helped quite a bit. I was wondering though, do those animated hair movements pertain just to longer hairstyles, or do they work like on the short hair that character in the above picture has?

It's not as intense with shorter hair but you will get some movement.

Do they have just long or medium hair or maybe a topknot now?
