AdminAdmin Administrator RarePosts: 5,623

Today SOE solidified the many rumors that have been going around for a few days - EverQuest II will begin shipping on Nov 8, 2004.  It should be in stores everywhere as early as November 9, 2004.  Here is their official press release:

SAN DIEGO, CA - October 25, 2004 - Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online (MMO) gaming, today announced that EverQuest II is scheduled to simultaneously ship to North American and European retail stores on November 8, 2004. EverQuest II is the highly-anticipated follow-up to Sony Online Entertainment's original EverQuest, the most successful and longest-running 3D MMO role-playing game in North America.

"After more than four years in development, the wait for EverQuest II is almost over," said John Smedley, president, Sony Online Entertainment. "We've invested heavily on development of the game to ensure that EverQuest II has the highest production values of any online game produced to date. We want to deliver a game to our players that will provide an experience like nothing they've ever seen."

Sony Online Entertainment is delivering a truly groundbreaking MMO game in EverQuest II with pioneering firsts in advanced 3D graphics, story, voice, production values, and gameplay. EverQuest II features the most realistic graphics of any MMO game ever created with a next-generation 3D graphics engine designed to keep pace with hardware developed over the next few years. Players will hear more than 70,000 lines of spoken dialogue in EverQuest II as non-player characters are given voiceover for the first time ever in an MMO game bringing the story of EverQuest II to life. EverQuest II also features gameplay innovations that make EverQuest II fun and exciting for all types of players and play styles, from hardcore gamers, to new MMO players, to those who play in groups, and solo players.

EverQuest II comes in three versions, all of which include a 30-day subscription (excluding SOE All Access subscriptions) to the game's online world. The CD version and DVD versions of the game carry an SRP of $49.99 and include the game, an in-game item and an in-box item.

Limited quantities of the EverQuest II Collector's Edition (DVD) are available at an SRP of $89.99. The Collector's Edition includes a number of in-game items, including "paintings" of EverQuest II scenery to be hung on the walls of a player's house, magical talking statues of Antonia and Lucan (voiced by Hollywood talent Heather Graham and Christopher Lee), and an exclusive pet baby dragon. The Collector's Edition also includes an exclusive art book, bonus DVD with trailers, gameplay videos and behind-the-scenes footage, a soundtrack CD, a collector's coin with a velvet pouch, a cloth map of Norrath, and two posters.

EverQuest II carries a monthly subscription fee of $14.99 for continuing access to the game world. Players can subscribe using a credit card, or purchase SOE 30-day and 90-day Game Cards, which open the new world of Norrath to those who choose not to use a credit card.

Great, but I hope SOE makes this game bug free when it releases. Don't want another SWG to happen.

Meh, no such thing as a bug-free mmorpg release. I just hope they patch the major problems from beta before the 9th.

I hope that they have stable servers at release and most of the major bugs fixed. I don't know of a MMORPG that has all of its bugs worked out.

LMAO so sad. Tried this game out through fileplanet. It has got to be one of the worst games ever. So bugged its not even worth your time or money. Disguistiing...I sure hope SoE will one day figure it out.

Sorry no such luck, it's more of the same from SoE. Been in the beta for months, it's got alotta bugs, major and minor, they're not fixed and regardless of what the fanbois will try and tell you they're not going to possibly be fixed in this little time. Whole zones crash all the time, doesn't matter how few people are in them, major lag problems, lotta features not in, don't work, etc, etc. It's a huge dissapointment, and I was 1 of the people who had such high hopes for this one. Maybe in another 6months to a year it'll be worth buying but not in 2 weeks, not a chance.

Everquest II also features gameplay innovations that make Qverquest II fun and exciting for all types of players and play styles, from hardcore gamers, to new MMO players, to those who play in groups, and solo players.

Why can I see the fanbois flaming the soloers and saying EQ2 was never design for solo play.

My free tanslation of Smedley(opinion): ''Everquest II is resolving around raiding, we plan on enforcing grouping on everyone and maybe tradeskilling.  If you want to progress twice slower and be twice more ghetto, be our guest and solo.  Because some older players are grievers over our past lies, we plan on replacing them with new players we try to fool in a more or less different ways of lying''.

well besides some stability problems after the last big patch i had very few problems with either lag or crashes or major bugs and solod up to level 16 (150+ quests done), mmorpgs will never be bug free even years after release (as a tester i can even say single player games have an avarage op 200 open bugs when released). There is a big difference between the 2 cities and fighting around them and qeynos has alot more solo content.

I will be buying the game for sure...

Anyone know if it will be playable in the uk and available at the same time?

  • ChaoticaChaotica Member UncommonPosts: 93

DVD or CD-Rom -- that is the question.

Considering SWG's release, I might wait a bit before purchasing this game as well. I'll give it a month or two to see the reviews after it goes live (if I can force myself to wait that long).

The game sounds like a lot of fun though. Hopefully they will work out all the kinks quickly.

Well since the NDA is pretty much gone and being in the beta, i can comment here.

For EQ fans they will luv it.
For the fans of complete games , forget about it.
I found more exploits in this than in SWG.

Heres a Huge one 2 weeks from thier supposed release date... vender exploit (huge) very easy to make mad cash with this baby if not fixed at release all i can say is OMG.

Graphics degrade fast within an hour you will need to reboot if you want to see it in color.

i noticed almost exact similarities between this game and 3 others. apperantly they hired from the compitition to create this gem.

for those pre ordering, hold on its gonna be bumpy unless they have a csr staff at release.

3 of my chars are bugged on nooby hallmark quest. this is NOT fun at all and is probably my biggest reason for declining to purchase this at all.
Being stuck at a lvl and haveing enough xp to lvl 2.25 lvls and hunting the quest items for 3 days without getting 1 of the 5 sux balls.
Any game that prevents you from lvling in a way such as this is a huge let down. they need to either rething thier quest dynamics or ensure a quest drop sequence per char.

wish i could have posted glorious review, i had high hopes maybe next year it will be worth looking at again.::::16::

EQ2 will definitely have bugs. From all the reviews I've read the game is far from being complete. Sony just wants to get it out before the holiday's and before World of Warcraft Online so they can make a mint in sales.  I'l going to give it 3 months. If it's not playable or to my liking I'll probably quit for 3-6 months and then give it another try. I've already Beta tested WoW, so I know I'll be playing that game for a year or so. WoW has bugs too, but most of them were very minor. From the looks of it though, WoW appear to be more stable in terms of lag and unbroken quests. Can't wait for both of these games to be finally out on retail shelves.

Beta is still buggy but beta people are only seeing about 30% of the finishes product.. Once it's released and patched it may be fine *shrug*
