How did this come to happen, it's a buggy free2play game and it's turn based. I couldn't stand to play the game past 20 and I come on today and I see it's rated #1?
Age of Conan is better than this crappy game. WAR is easily the best game on that list, even though I don't play it anymore.
I smell something fishy, like a bunch of fanboys came and rated the game 10 a bunch of times.
Comments
The ratings are the ratings, and they do not lie, regardless of any abuse they receive.
Simple as that.
That would be it. The rest of us just sit here and bitch about the current MMOs
The rating system here is designed to be captured by whoever cares the most. Sometimes that means fanboys; sometimes it could even mean employees of the companies that make the games. The idea is that that will get people to care about this site who otherwise wouldn't, especially through campaigns telling a bunch of people "go to this site to vote for our game".
And it's not like there is some other way to do it. No one has played more than a tiny fraction of the games enough to have an informed opinion.
Im currently collecting posts by Atlantica posters thruout the forums mostly Ive collected 10 so far all viral marketing posts due to the 1 post count and join dates.
If they can afford advertisements all over this site, then they can afford to be #1.
Also, I recall a post on some other forum saying:
Please make an account on MMORPG.com and vote for us. We are currently #1
But please do not make multiple accounts and spam vote for it -wink-
What do you guys think the -wink- meant?
Yep, pretty much.
LOL here we go again with the "its turn based" prejudice.........Atlantica is a fine game and IMO gets better as you level up......... I have no qualms with the game and I think at the moment that its as good as any game....i'd much rather play it for free than play AoC or WAR for 15 bucks a month, its as simple as that.
Normally I would give a F2p mmo alot of shit for being .....well and f2p mmo lol.
Atlantica Online atleast tries to be a different game and the cash shop is actually decent.
I have the game installed on my HD since its free, It's ok but not number one imo.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
The ratings from one game don't apply to the others and shouldn't be compared. Every game follows the same ratings criteria, none of which ask for the rater to compare the game to other games. Instead, each game should be rated based on it's own merits and detriments. Without some sort of balanced scorecard approach, it's impossible to compare the games. Rather than thinking of the list as a ranking of all games from best to worst, think of it simply as "just a list of games", each of which has it's own rating.
Beyond that, the reality is that the people who play the game are the ones most likely to rate it. in most cases, this means that games will generally have favorable ratings, because the people who play it like it. Obviously, there are false ratings on both sides of the fence and ratings by players who've never actually played the game and never will. That's where the curve and average system comes into play.
Anybody who rates a released game, negatively or positively, based on any criteria other than the listed categories (for example rating a game up or down because they feel it's better or worse than some other game on the list) is doing other gamers a disservice. Likewise, anybody who rates a released game, but has never actually played it, shouldn't be allowed to vote at all. Short of requiring gamers to enter their keycodes (which can never happen), however, there's really no way to enforce that.

"Turnbased Prejudice"
It's my opinion lol. And I get no excitement out of playing a game like that, I enjoy playing fast paced pvp games.
But hey, that's my prefrence.
And for the guy that said he'd rather play Atlantica for free than pay 15 dollars for WAR, you are missing out on amazing pvp my friend.
I think you are overlooking a simple fact - that Atlantica is free. That means it's going to have a lot of fans and people who play the game simply because it is free. And thus rate it highly, especially since it is one of the best free ones around.
R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there
Here's your answer : Even though Atlantica Online is free,
It's better than most p2p mmorg's thats been out for years.
More Innovative / Complex / Fun / Addictive.
The fact that you didn't go past lvl 20 means you missed 99% of the game.
The ingame content just get more and more staggering as you progress. This is the main difference with other mmorpg's, where content gets more and more sparse at higher levels.
I started mmo's with UO/EQ1/Daoc & now lvl 99/120 in Atlantica, so i know a bit what i'm writing about.
Give Atlantica a chance , play past lvl 50 at least. Or you'll miss a real gem.

And what some of us are saying is youre missing some great PVP also by not playing the game far enough.......The first 20 levels of Atlantica are basically a tutorial.......The game gets much better as you go along and when two level 100s go head to head theres alot of strategy and the turns go by very quickly...... At top level you would have to make more decisions in 30 seconds here than you would in Warhmmaer.
Yeah this is the reason right here. Over the last few months there have been dozens of one-post-wonders hitting this forum with obvious ads for this game. They are everywhere... even in threads where it has nothing to do with the topic. There was one in a Perfect World thread just the other day that was thankfully deleted by one of the Mods. Good job! They are having the opposite effect on me as I was thinking of trying this game until they started all of this crap. Now I wouldn't go near it no matter how good of a game it claims to be.
