So I'm stuck trying to decide between playing a Human or a Mahirim. I'm inclined to play Human just to avoid the general jackassness associated with those attracted to the evil characters, but then again I also don't want to deal with the pretentious dicks playing good characters.
Given that there and three good races aligned including Humans which according to polls will be the most populated race, I would say the good will definately outnumber the bad. So I am assuming this would lead to safer (relatively) zones for the good side and a more clear distinction between pve and pvp content. i.e. the good races will be able to experience the pve content safer than the evil races. Of course this means the evil races will probably be able to find more targets for pvp.
I am definately into Darkfall for the pvp element but that being said I like having some separation of pve and pvp so that I can do what I want without getting ganked. So my question is, will Darkfall even have complex and cool pve or is it so centered on pvp that I shouldn't really decide anything based on pve considerations?
And yes, I realize this "separation" of pve is a very thin idea and all will depend on how I play etc.

I've thought about this myself, I guess i'm hoping that the sheer size of the map will let people find that far away place to do a little PvE without having to worry too much about constant gankings.

Well one thing worth considering is that no matter what race you select there will be people of your own race willing to be dicks and try to hunt you down. fortunately with alingment and the inability to distinguish high skill and low skill characters at a glance these situations could be reduced in your area.
BUT really you should keep in mind that at least from what I understand every race has enemies on either side. The mahirim are surrounded by humans and miridain, and the humans are surrnounded by mahirim and orks. Theres going to pe plenty of conflict regardless of who your enemies and allies are
Honestly I'd say your best bet is to not consider pvp and pve seperate things. Mobs are designed to react like players, they may not be as good but they will have skills, they might loot you, you can loot them for what they have. Theres likeley no skills or spells that only affect mobs or have an uneven balance from mob to player.
you go out in the wild and you run into the same risks in pvp as you do in pve.
Ya, i think a seperation will probably not be very apparent.
As long as there are not a ton of asshats out killing their own race i think you will have a little bit of PVE time, the map is supposed to be very large. But once your racial enemies are big enough to safely get over to your side it will be on seriously.
I am actually thinking of going Dwarf. I tend to play on the good side more then the Evil side and i think Dwarf will be the lesser played good. Plus for some reason people who play Dwarves are usually not the asshat type. I could be very wrong though.
The lore say humans mirdain and dwarfs are the good races
And mahirim orks and alfar evil races but....
Players will eventually make up the lore.
Im ANTI but i will play a mahirim not all will be evil in race that lore says they are evil races.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Honestly, I think you're better of with either mahirim or ork. Since Humans, Mirdains and Dwarves with be in the same faction, it'll mean more people with you, but chances are that most jerks will join this faction too, become murder and hunt you down regardless. Alfar are by themselves, meaning you'll have lots of people to hunt you down xD So I see Orks and Mahirim as the way in between.
And yeah, the lore will eventually be written by the players. I've been thinking bout becoming an Anti myself and go Mahirim xD
I always make the mistake of playing the "good guys" in games. And I always regret it when it comes to PvP... cause -usually- the good guys just don't draw as many of the serious PvPers. Of course this game might be the exception since its heavily weighted towards PvP in the first place.
I'll be playing a wolf in this game. I figure its better to be on the side of the predator than the prey in a game like this... and I can definitely see the more serious PvPers migrating towards the darker races(Orcs, Mihirim, Alfar).
Honestly though, I can definitely seeing the good guys having an advantage in the crafting side of things w/ the Dwarfs. I have a feeling there will be a seriously larger amount of dedicated Dwarf crafters than any other race... and that's pretty damned important in a game that has full loot rules.
I will be playing an Alfar, at least you know the whole world will be your target so that sorts your targets out from the off. By playing this race I feel anyone who does will work as teams from the off even from a faction point of view too. I can see this race being squeezed from the off everyone hates them, but I have a funny feeling these race will have a lot of support from the Derv team once live.
This is going to be one hell of a game once thing settle down, the sheer fact that you will not know if you are facing a Vet or a noob makes it for a brilliant fear factor and you will have to learn when to fight and when to run, you will have to stalk your target waiting for the right opportunity. So I could see you following a person for quite some time to learn their routine and the way they fight by watching them in PVE then pounce when the time is right.
This game will suit people who have been used to kiting mobs against both players and PVE targets, this will be invaluable imo and many people will be suprised I feel with the way these mobs will react, so tactics will play a major part in how you manage to survive.
So I reakon PvP or PvE will be very similar and the fact you can not watch your back once commited to battle will be the cause of many a good man faling in battle. This will create the hunter becomes the the hunted for sure.
Asbo
So you're saying the game will become the province of no skill gankers who only will attack players who are otherwise engaged in combat (PVE in most cases) so there's no chance of their losing. Yep, pretty much what I expected as well.
