They appeal to a different type of gamer than what you are obviously use to. This is not another overhyped shit with big IP.

Your are correct its an underhyped, bit of vapor that has SUCKER written on your forhead for free when you actually send them money.

Secondly try before you buy has only been hinted at and that was a long time ago. I have not seen any form of policy to confirm this.  So dont bank on this untill they release their payment policy.
Thirdly All this talk about indies not advertising so adventurine doesnt have too is garbage. Were not asking for them to advertise the game, were asking them to show us the game instead of telling us.
Fourthly DF is a highly anticipated game so all it would take is for them to let high profile game sites in and have a look. All they have to do is send an invite and they would be there. However they just let freinds of tasos in and the reviews are picked over with a fine tooth comb by Tasos himself.
Conclusion: I still want to try DF, as it sounds fun but I will not be some idiotic customer who buys a game based on what a company says. (If in fact you have to buy first). It would take someone with more money than brains to buy this game when its released w/o any real info on it. As of right now this game has CON CON CON written all over it.

That a European game releases in EU first shouldn't be such a big deal, Wow released in US 3 months before rest of the world. It is actually good so they can fix eventual problems that always happens when you launch. Oh, and your date was 11 months ago BTW, you mean 1-22-09.

As for the rest, do like me and wait a month after release before buying it, or in your case buy it at the US release, we will know how good the game is then, if nothing else we will know if the current fanbois still likes it or not.

And yes, they should have gamespot or someone preview it but I know some greek persons and they are stubborn as mules and make things their own way in both good and bad ways if I am allowed to stereotype.

They'll miss that date and fade away again for another 1 or 3 years and come storming back with even more spin to sucker more people into trying paid beta..

I can respect that. But if they want me to fork over $50, I'd like to know a bit about the game.

    try before you buy

Cool, so wheres the information on this? Yes since you state everyone will be able to play for free before buying and the games coming out in a month now I'd really like to see the details.  Where can I download the client? Can I start Playing on the 22nd or is the free to try part gonna be delayed till after the launch? Surely they know the answers to these questions by now if the games coming out next month?

Also haven't been keeping up with DF last i heard open beta was ending in early December, So did they decide not to have a open beta after all? I mean with only 1 month left you'd figure they anounce when the open beta would be starting by now if they were gonna have one?

      TIA

we dont need it atm we willg et the info when needed

How much time will the devs have off over Christmas/New Year? My gues is they'll be away a couple of weeks. When you think about it there's probably three weeks work time at the most before the supposed release. It isn't going to happen. If it does it will be a shambles. Or rather, a bigger shambles.

Whoah...are you and downtoearth the same person???? You both have the same "writing style" to me.

I am sure both Slovenc and I can wait. I am also sure that I would not post it "all over the place." You seem to forget; I really, really want this game to succeed. I want it to have a relatively large (not so large as to attract the people from WoW that would not do well and would just whine about everything) subscription base that keeps paying them for a long time.
If you do give me proof, I will simply post in this thread something to the effect of "Downtoearth has given me the proof he mentioned, and it does prove what he said."
I really want you to be right, and I want this game to be a niche hit.

heh let me get home lol it  will be  a bit
    it proves hes in beta

Downtoearth has given me the proof he mentioned, and it does prove what he said. Thank you, downtoearth. It's good stuff, and it makes me feel better.

This warms my heart. I don't want to give out any details; anything like that should be up to downtoearth and/or his friend. But it does exist, and from what I saw, it seems like things are actually happening. By which I mean, real, actual people, many of them, are playing the beta and testing it like testers should (as opposed to just playing and whining, ala wow Betas, if any of you have been in those atrocious things). This make me very happy. I was just hopeful before, but now I am rather confident that this game will come out soon. Maybe not when they said, because I still haven't heard anything about a publisher, but soon.

I am waiting patiently for the release.

Nope. The proof is real; although if I were downtoearth, I wouldn't give you the proof. You sound like you are scoffing, and would probably post it here to try and say that it wasn't real.

But it is real, and as Slovenc noted, quite professional. They know what they are about. I had my doubts about the game's veracity for a long time, and then about their processes and the resulting quality of the game. But this sealed if for me. They are the real deal; they are the small company that knows what it is about, the kind of company all of us who want a real sandbox type game hoped would come along, because the big names sure aren't going to do it after WoW's success.

    Thank goodness.

English is the universal gaming language, more or less, for western focused games.

As to more info, probably won't happen until after the holiday break.

But still I can't remember being one month from launch and not known wether there was a French and German version or not. This just feels more and more like it's gonna be a Vanguard 1.5, I think Vanguard launched on the exact same day two years ago too!

I'd be curious to get a European perspective on their thoughts of having to use English on their server.

I do understand the logic behind it, as it's much more efficient to only use a single language and just expect your customers to adapt to that.

It is also probably a bit different in that most Europeans already know English almost as well as their know their native language.

With that being said... I'd be a little peeved if a game opened up a Server in the U.S. and then made the official language be Mandarin Chinese.

So, just curious if any Europeans had any comments on THEIR server being English only?

  • HawksBrigadeHawksBrigade Member Posts: 18

As far as I understood it the GAME itself will be released in English only (but Aventurine claims they have multi language support, although it's not clear if that will be in at launch time) but they won't be enforcing English only chat/speaking in INGAME situations.

I'm fine with that (I'm from The Netherlands) to be honest. Mixed country clans will probably be speaking English, because most will know that. But I wouldn't be surprised if I'd be somewhere and all of a sudden I'd run into a bunch of i.e. Spanish, German or French speaking people. We'll see what the Aventurine stand will be prior (hopefully) to launch.

  • BlodplsBlodpls Member Posts: 1,454

I am English anyway so it doesn't effect me but here are my observations regarding this.

In games with servers in Europe where there is only one language available it is always English.  There are far more people in Europe that can speak English (maybe not as first language) than any other language.

Sometimes people make single nationality guilds so that they can speak to each other on vent in their own language but generally it's mixed guilds with English used for communication.  Typing anything else in general chat will result in a barrage of flames from everyone.

From my experience most people "on the continent" can speak very good English anyway.  If you travelled anywhere in western europe you would have no problem only speaking English unless you went into "Mom & Pops" store in the middle of nowhere.

With the track record of Aventurine even the most rabid DF fanbois has to be getting a little bit nervous, and a tiny bit of doubt must be there. Being a "Vapourware troll" I'm sort of the opposite, 99.9% certain it's another BS pr stunt to keep hype going for a non-existant MMO so they can get more funding with 00.1% of doubt.
If this isn't vaporware and it does get released next month then Darkfall must be like the stealth bomber of MMORPGs. Let's hope if it does launch next month it doesn't get shot down soon after ;) But until release I'm still going to put my bets on Vapourware, until I play it, it doesn't exist!

Could you please apply what you just said with any other MMO that has been out?

Most of the info you state isn't out, till the game is out. Or the event happens (like beta)

Well if you take a look at the list to the left of the page, every P2P MMO had released information concerning purchase price and subscription price by this time. Also they had all released info concerning who the publishers is and how the game shall be distributed. Also information on language formats and open beta were known, usually the open beta would be about to begin if it wasn't already. Information on pre-orders and how you can pay for subscriptions would also be out. Also there would be some type of advertising campaign informing potential customers of release at the very least a banner on a site such as this with links to purchase the pre-order.

DF has none of these whereas all the P2P MMORPGs had most of this info already released by now including reviews by reputable sites and magazines. This is how it applies to other MMORPGs that have been out and cast a poor light upon Aventurine considering thier priors concerning release dates. Most of the info I stated is ount one month before release and before the event happens (Beta keys are often used as a marketing tool now).

Could you please give me an example of a P2P game on the left where none of this info was released by one month before release?

    Fair enough.

You'll have just to compared the fact that Aventurine doesn't believe in pre-orders, that removes quite a bit of info regarding the subs/price, etc. And as far as open beta, they obviously have one planned right at Jan.

Seems really that Aventurine isn't far from the others, just 22 days before release, not a month.

firstly a question if you would be so kind,

Is the Noob from the Noob's review of the beta of DF a part of DF's dev team?
