Was SWG the first mmorpg to have an achievement system you could show to people?

SWG had a badge system and probably still does where you got badges for doing special things in the world which are basically like achievements. What made this even more great was when someone examined you they could see all your badges and what you've done.

I'm wondering if anyother mmorpg did this before SWG?

True, WoW just put this in.

Of course, they expanded the concept beyond what SWG did.  SWG's exploration badges were based on specific locations on the various worlds; WoW's system is based on "filling in the blank spots" on the maps.  WoW has all sorts of additional achievements; getting a haircut; completing so many quests, finishing an instance, drinking so many drinks, etc.  SWG has all sorts of allocades for ingame events; so does WoW.

There are so many achievements in WoW, and they're broadcast in spatial, party, and guild chat, so that guild chat consisted greatly of "gratz" for some achievement, be it "So and so just killed Hogger for the gazillionth time!" or whatever.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

I'd say SWG has evolved it's achievement type system with collections now as that is the natural evolution of achievements. I mean it's all fine having an achievement telling you that you've done something but collections gives you a reward for doing it.
