Except that Steam is screwing their European customers since they first price their products in dollars, then convert the prices to Euros using their invented exchange rate 1€  = 1$ instead of the real exchange rate 1€ = 1.4$. Even if their European prices include VAT, screw Steam for screwing us Europeans and screw EA for having anything to do with Steam.

You were saying? It has everything including such as taxes and VAT. Big win for gamers I think, finally forced EA to react (I'm sure this is just the first round of improvements from EA, and may even force more companies on steam) and remove DRM (or atleast the limited installations).

    Bit of a FUD imo.

Products on Steam are now priced using local currency in the United Kingdom (Pounds Sterling), and Europe (Euros). All other countries remain in United States Dollars.

I assume no one read the link? FUD...

nobody cares about stupid (and largely unknown) 20 year old acronyms now any more than they did 20 years ago (SFW). edit: i didnt think anyone still used WINE either.

im all for ea selling things however they want, as long as idiots buy them they will keep selling them, THAT is how they stay in business despite 99% of people claiming to hate ea (posers). be REALLY funny for them to just stop selling to europe period, save craploads of $ on localization and getting the games rated. better still have the drm check the native language of the machine and if it isnt english lock the registry. go ahead and pay import tax on that crap.

not that i like ea, but really somebody must for anyone to cry about this nonsense. direct2drive sells their games too, i suppose you will now proceed to throw a parade to celebrate this fact?

Steam is a amazing. No, really, it is. I can't say anything for pricing arrangements outside of the US, but the service itself is damn solid and any argument otherwise is going to be a complete strawman. I'm glad to see EA finally got their head out of their ass and are finally distributing via Steam rather than the horrific EAStore crap that they likely spent thousands on and then clung to for dear life when they realised people didn't want to install yet another download client, go their their crappy idea of DRM, and deal with their terrible login system that changes every few days.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Europe is enjoying being on their high horse after being bailed out by the US after WW1(only germany got their act together before WW2 because of Hitler) and the US being the world leader in that area after WW2 too. Lets have a telethon for european gamers so they can afford their games. This falls into the I "dont give a shit" category. If you refuse to buy from valave or EA then well.... dam narrowing your choices there. I on the otherhand will continue to support both companiesas I love it when people screw over Europe with that kind of stuff.

Also EA dropping DRM stuff inf avor of steams is win.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.

Another kid who read a history book. Enjoy your country, it's quite fun seeying you guys struggle in the current crisis. We don't need terrorrists, the USA bombed themselves this time and it's quite fun to watch!

On topic: Good to see EA is looking further down the road and joins steam. I don't use the system but making it possible to download games legal is always a good thing.

You were financially bailed out by France and the Netherlands many, many years before WW2 happened at one point. Seriously, this is a discussion about video game prices. Being a smartass and still bragging about something your great-grandfathers did a couple of generations ago makes you seem very insecure about something. America isn't better than Europe, Europe isn't better than America. We're all gamers here.

America isn't better than Europe, Europe isn't better than America. We're all gamers here.

As Americans, we can not and should not claim that the actions of our fathers & grandfather are any kind of a reflection on the current generation.  They made the right choices then but if we want good times to continue it's up to us to make the right choices now.  To me, it seems like a lot of people seem to have the same attitude as the snot-nosed brats who live next door - their parents are may be fine, upstanding, respectable people who I have no problems with but that doesn't mean their kids aren't still snot-nosed brats who need to grow up.

Personally I'm very hopeful about the future.  We've collectively made some really stupid decisions the last eight years or so but I'm reasonably certain starting Jan. 20 things will start to change for the better.  It won't be easy or painless but it'll happen, and I think most people will agree that it'll be a good thing.

As for STEAM and video game prices, I have absolutely no idea what the normal price is for games over there.  Valve can charge whatever they want but that doesn't mean you have to pay it.  If it's more than the box version in the store just don't buy it, they'll get the message eventually.  Personally, in the US, I think Steam is a great deal most of the time - you pay for it once, you have it forever.  You can reinstall it all you like, don't have to keep track of discs (which always get lost after a few years or so), the only caveat is you have to be online when you start the game.  With internet access becoming ubiquitos this isn't really an issue for me.

It’s official. Game publishing giant Electronic Arts today formally joined Valve's Steam service, as speculated earlier this week following the sudden appearance of the Spore end-user license agreement on the platform. Five titles are available now for purchase via Steam, including Mass Effect, Need for Speed Undercover, Spore, FIFA Manager 09 and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, plus the Spore Creepy & Cute Parts Pack.
The games are apparently available without the controversial SecuROM DRM they initially shipped with. This is truly a testament to the popularity of Steam and a big win for Valve, considering EA traditionally has digitally distributed their internally-developed PC games only though its own EA Store and Steam competitors like Direct2Drive. Other recent EA releases expected to join the Steam lineup “in the coming weeks” include Dead Space, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Mirror’s Edge.

thats even better, so I dont know whats wrong with you peoples

The 1$ = 1€ pricing has been that way at most game stores I go to here in Germany, the fact that Steam is doing is not surprising.  I don't really see what the hoopla is over, check Amazon.de...they do the same thing, yet I don't see folks screaming in here about that.

Yes, because you don't use WINE must mean nobody does. Can you tell me where you get your data? I'm sure they can point me to a 1 TB SSD for a mere 10 bucks.

Why shouldn't we "celebrate" Direct2Drive having the games? I don't use D2D but surely enough people do, and good for them having games they might enjoy. In case you haven't noticed, some games EA does make are good, such as Mass Effect, Mirror's Edge, Spore, Dead Space, etc ETC ETC. Clearly its just you fear-mongering EA, you can't stand the fact they did something responsible and released their games with unlimited installs. (Though not selling the games in Europe or Japan is weird)

It seems people are just out to make this news somehow the end of the world. I don't see how a developer/publisher joining steam is bad for either of the two.

The hate is fresh in this thread.

Steam should use proper exchange rates, other than that this is good news.

As stated above, no DRM. I don't live in Europe so I don't give two shits about how much steam gouges them. They aren't gouging me, so I'm going to do business with them.

Yes Steam is just so damn awful! They don't require a twenty digit alphanumeric CDkey, they auto-update the games installed, and they even let you play the games on your account regardless of what computer you logged in on. Oh the horror! <sarcasm>

My only problem with this arrangement is that C&C3 and the Battlefield series aren't available via Steam. Although I'm taking bets on how long it will take before we start seeing bundle deals for The Sims cropping up.

"boo hoo i live in a pseudo-elitist country with falsely inflated currency and things are expensive, so despite pretending to have craploads of wealth i am going to cry about every $ boo hoo hooo"

I want to thank you for this post because it shows that all Americans don't have the same idiotic views of the world as the guy who hijacked the topic with this history crap that has no relevance to anything in this day and age nor this topic if what you say is true it is unfortunate but also an unfortunate side effect of a global market as we in america also put up with some bothersome practices when dealing with products from other countries.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

But apparently Americans seem to have the idiotic view of posting quotes of quotes of more quotes in order to quote the quoter of quotes.

BTW I am an American therefore the reason I quoted the quotes of more quotes so I could be quoted as quoting the quotes correctly.
