Well guys, I hope we can have fun with this. What do you think the perfect mix of skills is? It doesn't matter if the skills are or are not in the game. Just assume that your the skills you would like are in the game (unless its something completely rediculous).
My perfect character would be an archer with every archer skill, (flame arrows, exploding arrows, a sniper skill, rapid fire arrows <-that may not be in game, and an AoE arrow attack). If there are movement skills like acrobatics i would try to max them out so that when someone came to attack I could dodge or take out my newbie dagger and mess him up . If i had time i would put some healing skills in.
Edit: Oh sorry i guess he would be human. I like to try and make my character look like me.

Well I was actually thinking you would choose only a few skills not every single one.
Funny how everybody try force themselfs intoa class while devs have worked on a systems with skills to get rid of class and give you oportunity to make a character thats abel to train many kinds of different skills so you can be mage/melee/range/healer:)

I don't really understand the "funny" part. Mixing the abilities / skills, such as melee, range, healer, caster, etc will give you a char that is unique.

I dont know about that, in every mmo out there, especially pvp oriented games, everyone clamors for the "uber" build.

It's sort of a coloquialism. He just said the same thing that you did.

Well I was just saying to be reasonable. I mean you can't realy expect to be the best in all categories, otherwise there would be no reason to even specialize. The whole debate of who is better ranged or melee is completely pointless. "Well I will have the ultimate range skills so i can shoot him, and if he comes close i will have the ultimate melee skills, and if hes about to kill me I have the ultimate healing skills, and if he tries to curse me I have the ultimate buffs, and if he tries anything, I have the anti anything armor/skill." Well if that sentence is possible in darkfall....BORING!
Since this game most reminds me of The Elder Scrolls series Online, I will probably play a character type that I have always played in those games.
Stealth type, bows for the most part and daggers when close. A mix of illusion for invisibility and restoration magic for some healing. That's about it.
I never really had fun with the typical bash and smash types. Albeit it was probably easier, but it always felt so dull and lifeless, no challenge. Having to sneak up and shoot them in the back of the head proves the same in time as consistently bashing them in repeatedly, just more entertainment with the first of those two. Plus, I never really was a fan of the heavy armor.
EDIT: I agree with you OP, it really does ruin the fun out of games when players simply wish to be the best at everything. The fun in a video game is supposed to be the uniqueness with the players and the differences and trying to overcome them, at least on a PvP perspective. If your a ranged attacker and the melee guy with a huge metal casing closes in on you, you shouldn't have some super epic melee weapon to match as well... you better run your @$$ over to some cover before your head is demolished.
If only SW:TOR could be this epic...
Im eager to increase my knowledge in magic, in dark and chaotic magic especially, im a huge fan of magic whit risk vs reward, you know the one that u give something meanful for great power or not alwasy power but different and unique results. So as soon as i see a path of magic that allows me to exchange life, stamina, endurance, resitance for something else im set on my journey.
Thats the main, think but i cant set aside leech magic, leech life, stamina/mana, i just love the idea/rolplay of it, its just plain wicked to suck the lifeforce out of someone.
And while i-ve played battlemage like them types in other games, i always tend to end up whit very light protectin if at all.
I completely agree with you!

Ok, maybe I just haven't put the time into reading the details as everyone else, but is there a limit to the actual number of skills you can have? To be more specific, is it possible to have every single skill? I really hope not. I am just thinking, if you can have every skill, a well equiped individual could take on an army.
Just FYI. No stealth or invisibility in the game. The only way to sneak up on someone is to actually sneak up on them. No word on illusions yet, but I doubt it.

Well i luv archery(real life not n game)so i would use it but i wouldnt really upgradde it. id have tons of healing magis cuz i love helping people and myself, along with fire and shock magics of course .thne just in i run out of magic, mana etc. ill have just enough skill lvls in the shortblade. Thats how i play on TES:Oblivion.
No, you wont be able to have every single skill maxed, since the system is aimed to work something like this:
Your skills levels will increase the more you use them, and skill you dont use that often/much will gradually decrease over time. What they have mentioned is that they want each player to have just a few skills maxed out or a more then a few skills on "medium" level ( skills will raise from 0 to 100 ).
And since they plan to have 500-1000 skills in game at lauch MY ASUMPTION, would be one would be able to max around 20-30 skills, but thats my take on it, wich i love, since once u max your skills, and try em as much as u like u can start maxin others and check what fits ur playstyle.
I'll probably try and max out TANKING skills e.g. dodge, parry, shield, armour skills.......... in addition to Divine Magic.

Ah, that's a shame. Not even camoflauge type abilities? Oh well, isn't too much of an importance. Just requires more timing.
I would at least hope they offer something for those of us who like sneaking, say in the Elder Scroll games, the weight of your boots (light armor over heavy armor) effecting your ability to ambush / sneak. Camoflauge works as well, as in not complete invisibility, but something along the lines where the players can become at least somewhat transparent and difficult to discover.

It's been mentioned that the only way to be stealthy is hide behind objects, in shadows during night, and in tall plants. People can hear your footsteps if you are running up to them, but it's much harder (impossible?) to hear someone who is crouching sneaking up behind you.
The following is based on what we currently know about Darkfall. It could be different when the game is released:
This should work, in theory, because there is no zoomable/turnable third person view. Meaning the only third person view in the game is a fixed camera over your shoulder pretty close to your character. Also when using a ranged attack you switch automatically to 1st person. Also there are no display names over people's heads. The only way to see someone's name is to put your mouse over them.

if there is no server-side stealth, what is to stop people from hacking client to show models with modified textures (ie. full brightness)? i prefer "invisible" type steath, tho with modifiers, so people can't exactly stealth in plain sight.
An integrity check on the model files to make sure they have not been modified would counter that. But nothing would stop a 3rd party program running on your computer that could do the same thing.

Well rather than comoflage. Why not skills that allow you to move quickly while crawling. Maybe also they can make it so you can move silently. They can probably offer Ghillie suit. For some reason I don't think any of these features/skills will be available. I hope they have binoculars/scope or an ability that allows you to recon an area without being in the area.
They could offer somthing along the lines of a radar. You sence some1 is there, but only if he moves. But the lower the lvl of the skill then the better chance of not detecting sum1 with it.
I, of course, got this idea from Halo 3:)
Well we can only HOPE that all hackers computers will explode in a great fireball...and that no store will sale them a new one.
Hmm...did I mention I hate hackers? But I'm not bitter...lol.

I thinki i like that idea much better actually. OR like a spider sense where your radar shakes or something because the person is not moving but you know they are close.
