Hi,
I was just wondering. The game itself is called Guild Wars. Guild as in joining a group of people, helping each other, hunting together, etc...
As much as I like being part of a guild in any MMORPG, sometimes you just wanna do stuff alone. Does the game always revolve around teamwork? Or you can just go out on your own personal adventure, grind alone, etc.
To be quite honest, when I join a MMORPG, I've learned that joining a Guild right away is always a big mistake. You might want to make friends first, get to know the people, then when you are comfortable, you can pick the guild of your choice.
Joining a guild just because you're a newbie and some guy came up to you saying: "Hey wanna join our guild? We'll give you free stuff" can be good, but from experience I've always quit to join another guild I found friendlier.
So anyways, for those of you who beta tested or read a lot about the game, can you solo a large part of this game?
Because I have 5 days to decide if I pre-order Guild Wars just to join the World Preview from the 29th to 31st. Or I don't pre-order, instead I buy Everquest 2, and most likely never play Guild Wars at all.
or worst case scenario, EQ2 sucks and I end up waiting for Guild Wars instead, hehe

Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy!
juz wanted to show you this: (From official Guildwars site, www.guildwars.com , FAQz section)
"Do you have to be in a guild to play Guild Wars?
Not at all. Although there will be many positive aspects of belonging to a guild, there will be so many single-player missions, team cooperative and competitive missions as well as individual player-versus-player missions that you can be assured of many of those gaming sessions that run into the wee hours, no matter your playing style. Missions will come in all sizes and difficulties and can be joined individually, as part of a one-time team or as a member of a full-fledged guild. "
First off, you don't have to pre-order to participate in the WPE. You do know that, right? This is basically gonna be E3-part-two: open to everyone, everywhere. Also, beta testing has not yet begun. It's still in alpha and beta will begin AFTER the WPE. It's THEN that you have the option to continue to play (one weekend/month) if you pre-ordered.
And yes, you can solo. In fact, a little while back, they changed to to allow you to solo in ANY pvm area, regardless of how many players it was intended for. So as long as you can handle yourself, you can pretty much go anywhere, with a group or alone.

Well, the only word that came into my mind after reading all the replies is:
BOOYAH!
Thanks! On top of that, I thought you had to pre-order to play the world preview event. Oh well, I guess I'll be seeing you all on those days.

I don't know if you were there for E3 or not, but that was already pretty amazing. This time, it'll be pretty much the same thing again, only with a TON more content and improvements. So I can only imagine how awsome the WPE will be. Btw, I haven't pre-ordered yet either; I was planning to after WPE.

WoW EQ2 Guild Wars ?! I cant decide!

Whew! So I'm not the only one going crazy! lol
I mean, on Oct 29-31, what if Guild Wars is amazing? Will I still want to buy EQ2? Will I wait for Guild Wars instead? Nah, I need a MMORPG. So I'll buy EQ2 anyways. But what if EQ2 is so good, either as good as Guild Wars or better? That means I will never play Guild Wars or hesitate when the retail version is released!!!
Or maybe I'll just end up playing both games.
Ahhh!!! I gotta stop thinking so much or else I'll really go crazy!

WoW = Polished EQ clone
EQ2... well I had fun exploring zones for a first time, but it got old quickly... then the only fun I had is when I saw my bid on eBay going up !
Anyways... the no monthly fee option is an easy decision for me, even if I can easily afford WoW or EQ, I just feel they're a waste of money when I consider the fun time/time played ratio.

Actually I'm finally cleared up on what Guild Wars is all about. I read the thread on this forum if GW is a MMO or not.
Guild Wars will never have any huge 30 VS 30 players PVP battles or castle sieges.
There will not be any 20 players against a huge mega-strong dragon.
It will be 4-8 players max in groups.
That's not bad... I mean if anyone dares to say GW sucks because of that, they can $%^&*( ... there's NO monthly fee!!!
But hey, 1 more day until World Preview! The day that will either change the world of MMO forever... or will just be another game for those that want to save money.

You sure sound like you know an awful lot for someone who clearly doesn't. No offense, but save such strong assertions until after you've actually experienced it. But yes, the time is coming up really soon here. There's going to be quite a lot of increased discussion during and after WPE, and I know we'll all have something to say on it. A word of advice though: take as many screenshots as you can. I wanted to take about 10x more during E3, but I was too distracted with the fun.

I heard that about WoW a lot ... I don't know if it is true, but either way, I guess I'm lucky because I never got to play everquest. So in a sense, WoW will be my first good MMORPG
I plan on getting both WoW and Guild wars ... I think they will complement each other.
By the time Guild Wars comes out, I'll probably have a lot of hours logged on WoW and a beefed up Diablo II type game might be a welcomed change of pace as a temporary break from the pure MMORPG genre.
I don't think WoW will be that short lived (assuming Guild Wars comes out in April) but having another game to play is good way to avoid overkill
