Looking for a game with LOTS of classes or a skill based system

Dex23541Dex23541 Member Posts: 16

I've tried a lot of MMO's but I've yet to find a game that I've been able to become totally immersed in (pre-cu SWG actually succeeded but that's another topic for another thread).

So, I'm looking for a game that appeals to my interests, my favorite elements in an MMO are

  • Lots of different classes (Not the generic caster ranger, tank) or a skill based system (Pre-cu Galaxies)
  • Some form of PvP (Penalties don't matter, full loot or no loot)
  • A decent/mediocre crafting system
  • An active community
  • A "low" level cap (~ 50 - 80 levels of content)
  • An experience/skill system that doesn't penalize players for grouping.

Feel free to suggest free to play or pay to play games

Don't suggest: WoW, DAoC, Lineage II, SWG, UO, or Runescape.

Thanks everyone!

You could try Ryzom it has really great crafting no set class or levels. It is basically a sandbox. Plus at the moment it is free so I suggest that.

I always thought EQ 2 had alot to offer. I also like Lord of the rings online, but that can be limited at times, or it feels it can be.

I would agree with Ryzom, but the game really isn't the same now that it's free, not the mention its likely to shift status again at any moment from P2P or closing entirely again. The community, which was one of the best parts of the game, has obviously suffered because of its current F2P status. Unfortuantely, it's never really been an "active" game which made it feel a bit empty considering how large the world is. Generally, I love large game worlds, I hate the extremely tiny, disjointed, instanced excuse for a "world" we're given now. But the big downside is it needs people to populate it, or its just clusters of mobs /=

EQ2 HAD much to offer, and wasn't that bad with mentoring, plenty of content, classes, etc. However, Station Cash kicked that in the nuts and even if you could tolerate the crap they're pulling, the servers have emptied out from people who won't. If you have an old Vanguard account they activated old accounts until Jan 31st. Other than that, not much to say, we're in the same boat. Chronicles of Spellborn would be great, except the NA release is dragging way way behind while SiL is trying to get the code ready to deliver due to some issues with the EU security code still being embeded, and Acclaim seems to be showing complete disinterest in the game they got publishing rights to.

So yeah, not much choice at the moment, some hope down the pipe, but not much. Also, in before Darkfall, he wants games he can play, not read about for years to come.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Ya when I was playing I saw my fair share of people that come with free to play games, but according to the site it is going back to p2p after december probably. I do have to admit that ryzom does not have the largest community, but a good majority of them are kind and will help you out plus the world makes you feel like it is real with changing seasons weather and animals migrating according to thes. This makes for what I think a pretty good game.

Could go with FFXi, but i doubt you would like the grind, yet it's kinda fun in a way to grind because you group with other players and set up a "camp" and basically talk all the while grinding.

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

Yeah I've been trying the EU version of the Chronicles of Spellborn beta and I'm very very disappointed. An average spell/melee attack hits for 70 - 85 and mobs have about 1.7k - 2k HP at level two. It's a whole lot of clicking for not very much XP.

I actually played FFXI on the Fairy server. Got an Elvaan to 75 in a few classes before I retired.

As for EQ 2 I checked out the free trial and wasn't very happy.

I'll download Ryzom and try that out, can't say that I've ever heard of it before.

If there are any other suggestions, please feel free to post and thanks to everyone who has posted, you guys rock the interwebs .

Darkfall. Unless you are more into pve I guess.

Shadowbane if you're not 12 years old.

i like regnum online. 3 main classes, 6 subclasses when u reach lvl 10.

    3 realms, Ignis-sandy

    Syrtis-grassy and Alsius-frosty

at about 30 we all go to the war zone and pvp/ take forts

lvls go up to 50. recently they added something called invasions, where u can invade other realms but it rarely happens cuz its hard to get past the great wall.

hmm why dont you try flyff online or tantra online, most of the games really focus on same chracter class however they only differes in battle system and if your looking for a different battle system i would like you to try atlantica online.

Atlantica is fun but it's a very casual game for me. I tried Flyff and never really got into it. I'll give Tantra a look.

I would wait for Mortal Online to drop.  It's supposedly gonna be a complete sandbox so no classes but not sure about the lvls  cause i'm not sure there are gonna be any.  It will be open world PvP i believe and it's gonna actually look spectacular unlike darkfall.  The MO devs actually take suggestions from the forums and listen to the community.  You should def. check out the webpage they sound like they are gonna have some really cool features.  For example:

"Is your goal to face a legendary monster? Well, that is usually suicide – if you can find one. But if your guild would actually manage to kill one, it’s dead. Gone. Rare monsters and quests do not resurrect or come again, whether it’s an ancient beast, a crumbling temple, an island rising out of the sea or a great ritual that fails or succeeds.

You might get away with an item never seen before, or the unique scar that tells about the experience. There are not many of these opportunities but they are usually important enough to affect the whole world and its history. All you have to do is be at the right place at the right time." - taken from the webpage.

So check it out if you are into complete sandboxes, oh and it's first person view only though.
