In an FFA, full looting game, is stealth going to be king?

Not sure how well FFA full looting will really work.
But it seems to me that stealth would be > anything... ie the ability to sneak around keeping out of trouble, or ganking from nowhere.
Has that been the case in similar rulesets in the past?

Stealth in this game is not invis. You literally have to try and conceal yourself from the other players line of sight. So basically as good as you are at hiding. Thats kind of the point of the game though.. Your own skills will have to supplement your characers skills.

As with stealthing in any game, you just have to learn to keep calm and pay attention. If you get surprised you've already lost 2-3 seconds thinking about what you're doing.
Stealth was not the end all be all in Ultima Online, nor is it in Shadowbane, so don't worry.
so any class or player can learn stealth?

Umm... no? There is no ability or spell in Darkfall to make yourself less visible to other players. Xiliaro is correct.

There is no stealth as we know it in most mmos to date. There is hiding, in heavy foliage, shadows, environmental stealth basically. Think metal gear solid stealth , without the boxes :P
Back to the point of the original post, no i dont think stealth will be king. What will be king is the person who master the arts of stealth, magic, and swordplay.

I also find myself warm and fuzy on the inside when someone eludes my question and provides no answer. Yes all players can learn all skills. Its how you aquire them and level them up that will define your success at using these skills.

Can any of you flamers provide a link stating that invisibility is not a spell? Because I do remember reading in those short stories on the site that a certain necromancer used invisibility as a spell as well as invisibility scrolls which were used in that "searching for the bind stone"-story.
As for the OP's original comment, I do believe people who are able to stealth really well will have a large advantage in getting the first hit, confusing the enemy, and choosing the terrain when to attack. But then again, stealth is open to everyone, and it can be detected by anyone who chooses to spend more time travelling by looking back once in a while.

This is an interview in Dec with Tasos so it's up to date and all. Very good interview and makes the game look great to me.
No complete invisibility. That doesn't mean there never will be or that there aren't spots of invisibility I don't believe.
I think it just means that you won't be able to stay invisible for long periods. So stalking will actually be stalking, moving from tree to tree and staying off hilltops.

Se you made a mistake in peoples eye's. Their say"Oh and we can trust Tasos after all these lies and such that he spues?"
That same article also states you can have pets/hirelings and that prestigue classes are part of the game. All of which have been cut because they went against the game's overall concepts.
You did some half-ass research, got called out on it, and are now trying to be cool and cover your tracks by pretending your in beta. Quit wasting people's time.
Isnt threr suppose to be spells that change your race ot aligement for a short time? Thats also a kind of stealth.
But to the OP, NO....stealth wont be the king because most players dont have the patience to handle it. n DF you have to stealth yourself, the game wont do it for you. And everyone can learn any skill or spell.

there are no skills nor spells that make you invisible or give you any sort of stealth the only thing you can do to hide yourself is to hide in the bushes or behind a tree so you dont get spotted END OF DISCUSSION GUYS

like others have said...this will not be easymode like other MMOs where stealth is just another word for invisibility where you can stand 5 feet in front of someone in the open field and they have no idea you are there.
one of the many reasons why DF will be more challenging and enjoyable to those of us who are looking for player skill to play a factor again.

crauch silent walking better climbing all kinds of skills to make you a better sneaker so you can gank, but no invis or that crap.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
The only time an invisable type stealth spell was mentioned, was in the lore. Lore has little to do with the actual in-game concepts, and is full of things already confirmed not in the game.
Other then that, awhile ago it was hinted at that there may be pollymorph, or disguise spells, but nothing in the vien of WoW stealth where you go invisable.
