I know, i know. To many people are comparing MMORPGs to World of Warcraft and saying they are all a ripoff from WoW. But hear me out!
I have played WoW for no more than 3 months, and ive quit because i think it sucks. I have played MANY mmorpgs in my time, and none of them have been this try-hard-WoW as Runes of Magic.
This game is fail in just about everything! Seriously, its not worth the 3.5gb download, and is definetly not worth the excessive patching.
Dont waste your time.

Someone who says they have played many mmo's and only in last few months have played WoW i find really hard to believe as wow is an old game and everyone in the mmo has played it years ago and got bored of it.
In addition, if you find wow sucks after three months, a game which offers all of the mmo elements in one game then i dont think mmo's are for you. WoW does suck but you can only really say that after 6-12 months but only because it gets repetative which means the original ideas are fun and playable its just once you see one muloc you seen them all.
As a free game I will be trying RoM and it sounds totally different to most mmos with the pvp element they have implemented but you wont see that at this stage of the game nor after such a limited review.
Please, you dont need to play a game for 12 months+ to realise it sucks. The quests are lame and if you dont quest your grinding,
The best MMO atm is Warhammer, its just that noone knows how to play their class. I see healers trying to be damage dealers whilest their allies die! Wtf?
I have played a lot of WAR, end lvl BW and end lvl chosen not to mention lots of lvl 20s etc and if you dont see the pattern on quest grinding or event grinding or Keep grinding or SC grinding then I am amazed.
I'm not saying theres no grind, its just very little grind. And the fact that its mostly PVP grind make its unpredictable and fun. The only bad thing about PVP grind is imballances and overpopulation.
Why would you find it hard to believe that someone would not have played Wow, just because it has been out for years? I have been playing MUD"S and MMO"S for 20+ years and I have yet to try WOW. I looked at the game a few times via video's and have followed a few forums here and there, but I will never try WOW. The game just does not interest me and nothing they can do to it will cause me to change my mind about it.
I bet, there are more than just me and the Op that have not tried WOW. Just thought I would let you know that is it possible to have gamed for years and not have the desire to touch WOW.

WoW is a horrible game, you aint missing out on nothing. Hes assuming everyone has tried the games he loves, because he thinks everyone is like him. Well he wants them to be like him anyways.
I totaly agree with OP, This game is TERRIBLE! period.
of all other f2p, this is @ my botton list of them for sure, Its like there is no feeling at all, zero!.
The only good is that its f2p, thats about it i think. Dont waste time in this, it really was a joke i was laughing after a while playing it, thats how absurd it is haha.
Pee and poop dont taste good, Becourse some other dont thinks so thats there problem. Comparing this game to others this is poop, while other think its the greatest, doesnt make it great! It Still smell poop
lukjay you played for 3 weeks? What level did you get. Did you even try the endgame? Sure the game is going to get boring but it does not suck right from the beginning. The gameplay isnt even that bad, its the repetitive quests killing boars for a 1/4 chance of boar blood(wtf?!) that gets people bored and the same quest over and over. But you havent even tried the game long enough to experience this. Btw Runes of Magic has stuff taken from everquest and other mmorpgs thats the developers of ROM liked. So i guess your 2 hours playing Rom and experinceing the levels 1 - 15 or w/e made your opinion seem all great. The game is good for people who do not want to pay for WoW and want a clone with some cool features,
blah blah blah, i bet u started on PvP server with mage then got PKed at begin and quit lol

No
"lukjay you played for 3 weeks? What level did you get. Did you even try the endgame?"
LOL, people like you are ignorant. You dont understand, this is a GAME. Its supposed to be fun! If you have to play a game for hours, maybe days or even weeks just for it to become "fun", then its a grind whore. Not a game at all, is it? This game sucks! Those who enjoy it are easily amused or have very little RPG experience.
If you don't like Wow you won't like RoM either. But I am kinda suprised that you like WAR then because it is also a Wow clone even though it is more PvP based.
WAR is ok but it sure isn't the best. In a PvP duel for one thing, Guildwars is miles more intresting. In a bigger battle Mythic beats themselves because DaoC got that a lot better.
RoM is the best F2P game out there. It is not as good as most games with a monthly fee but it costs a lot less so just take things for what they are. Go and download 10 other F2P and test and you get my point.
For a free game ROM does it well , everyone knows it's a Wow clone and so what .
War the best mmo ?? your kidding right mythic is trying hard just to keep what lefted of population on it's servers.
I have been playing mmorpg's for 12 years and you know what i've learned over the years , there is no best game it's choice or taste of the person .
So let do one thing shall we , let stop basging others games so people like ROM some wont end of story just move on and play what you like.
<===== that why there a big list of games right on your left , choice !!

I wouldnt say WAR is like WoW, they all have their similarities, but they are all MMORPG's so thats bound to happen. I like WAR because of its feature to have harcore PVP at lvl 1.
I have played F2P games all my life, WAR is the first game i actually bought. The others i used friends accounts or trials.
I would rather play Maplestory, Rappelz or even Tibia than RoM
RoM is a decent game. I play for an hour or so every couple of days. If your looking to spend more time in a game than this than reevaluate your life.
You're on the wrong forum I think...
omg. stop telling people that this game sucks again and again .. in my opinion it's ok for an f2p ..
to me most mmo's are not really great at the beginning .. there are so many mmo's which seem to be lame but after a few lvl's it just starts to be real fun. and please stop that shit telling people that something sucks. cauze newbies who are interested in this game will read that shit and be thinking of not to try it .. i made this mistake when i was new in the genre mmorpg. so stfu. if u have an opinion about this game. try not to use stuff like "sucks" .. how about pro and contra .. ?

There are *many* reasons someone might like or dislike anything, and they are not - any of them - defined by your personal criteria of what a good game is or isn't.
I've been playing MMOs in their current form for almost 10 years, I've played MUDs before them and table-top RPGs before that. With that in mind, for what it is, I think RoM is a pretty decent game. Better than most of the F2P ones I've tried.
Yes it's clearly borrowing heavily from WoW, particularly in the graphics/look of it. No arguing that.
However, it also has enough of its own details to set it apart. We can start with the PvP. The PvP in RoM is much closer to Lineage 2 than WoW. Open world PvP with penalties for ganking someone that scale with the number of people you've ganked (in this case ganking = killing someone who doesn't or can't fight back). You run the risk of dropping items and even going to Hell.. which I don't know what that's like, but it sounds intriguing.
Beyond that, it has a multi-classing system (you can become a Rogue/Warrior, for example.. or a Mage/Priest and can flip-flop the two). It has a different type of skill system... and on and on. From what I've seen so far, the obvious similarities to WoW end with its overall graphics style.
That is my impression having played WoW and having also tried out RoM for only a short time. Those are the differences that have immediately jumped out at me. Different people will see it differently, of course.
But in all... think what you want of it. Disagree with others' opinions all you want. That's what forums are for. But do not stand there and label people as "ignorant" when you yourself are guilty of the same thing.

I agree that there are obviously some big differences from WoW like the PvP system, the dual class system, housing, etc.
I'm only level 5 and pretty new to the game. Obviously there are some flaws like it feels a little laggy at times, crafting isn't the best ATM, some animations/graphics/sounds are just crap, a bit of "Engrish", but I like that they took WoW's interface because it works well. Some games I can't stand to play because you are limited on keybindings, how you control your character, etc. Here these aren't big problems and the fact that you can link items in trade is great.
Despite some of the flaws I am impressed with this game so far, and I plan to play it some more so that I can return and review it more thoroughly. The interface is very good, some of the graphics/animations are great, some of the music is lovely, there are events, some of the community is great, and there are neat things like a dual class system, pvp where you can be good or evil and when you are evil guards attack, repair hammers, furniture and homes, and more. I do not understand why there are so many on here naysaying the game and barely providing any detail on why "the game sux".
I don't know how much WAR has played since the last time I played (closed beta-first days of release) but honestly so far I like this game more than it. If RoM continues to smooth out the flaws, listen to the player base, and such I will probably be sold-- even more so if they have decent prices for the cash shop or they make it P2P with no cash shop.

I find it really scary that people in this thread are saying it takes 12 months to realize wow sucks... it took me about 2 weeks to decide WoW was not for me. Imo this game is more fun than WoW. Then again I'm a nut who liked games like UO, EQ1, DAOC, SWG (Pre-CU) and love EVE above all others right now.
This game has something interesting about it. Not sure what. I've only been at it about a week though, once I have some more time I'll be able to better decide whether I really like it or it just has that 'something new' feel to it right now.
But some of the comments in this thread are just downright silly.
1) You don't need months, and certainly not nearly a year, to decide whether you like a game or not. I generally decide during free trials or open beta (If I don't get into closed beta) for games whether I like them or not.
2) This game, while it has some similarities to WoW, isn't a "WoW clone" other than you are a fantasy character, kill monsters and do quests. It has similar feel, but then again it's got similar feel to DAOC as well, and similar feel to EQ1 and EQ2 and a whole host of other games that came out before WoW. It's not "unique" but it's not really a 'clone' either. It just follows similar gameplay trends to MOST other fantasy MMORPG's out there.
3) The game doesn't "suck" it's got fairly simplistic play but so far I've enjoyed it. And, for free? It beats the hell out of a lot of pay-to-play MMO's I've seen on the market.

I've played WoW for 14 hours according to my xfire stats and ehm after that time I decided it was not for me -- and it wiil never be for me -- but I agree on that WoW is a great game and has been a blast in the genre. Ok.
I'm pre-cu SWG Vet -- that makes me prepared for every and all disappoinments whenever it comes out --- and a UO cultist since it launched to the present day as I still play it when I want to go back.
Well, I like RoM too. It's a good game. It doesn't suck. It doesn't make you a fool. On the contrary, the dual class system, the open pvp (just playing on EN PVP server) and the good features that it offers for FREE makes a good deal trying it and, believe me, if you stay there you'll check a nice community, that mistery which makes a game Great.
And to micona: Yes, that's one thing that I've wished to say many times: there is no the Perfect game out there, you make your perfect game by yourself. Play which enjoy you the most and then you have the Perfect game at hand.
WAR is great, WoW is great and RoM as a f2p is great.
It is a question of fangs.
LOL still waiting for one valid reason why the OP doesnt like the game.....it sounds more like your cup of tea is playing single player games for a couple hours so you can beat it....All MMOs are a grind and you have to work at them....they arent meant to be beaten in a couple hours........Ideally they want you to play for months if not years so its not like your going to be max level after an hour or two........
Don't listen to the OP whinning about how the game suck. This game is pretty good as F2P game goes. I guarantee you will enjoy the game if you play it without any predetermined bias or ultra high neigh unreachable expectations. Yeah a lot of it's features are a direct rip off from WoW. But don't let that fool you, why try to reinvent the wheel when something is done right.
