Well, i can't tell much about the game since little is actually known about it, except, if you're an rper you're bound to enjoy the community of this game...............................not
Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*
It really depends on what type of role player you are, and also where you mainly stay in game I would imagine.
If you are the type of role player that tends to QQ when you get pk'd, then I'd say stay away from the major cities unless you are in a group. But this doesn't mean the game won't be fun. It's my understanding that you will be able to hire npc's to protect you and that these will not be the typical, stupid npc's. They are supposed to be challenging.
Other than the threat of pk I would also think that DF would be a roleplayers dream in that you can make the world whatever you wish. Well "you" is a loose term...I should say the players can make it what they want, in groups. But the potential to become a succesful solo player is definately there too via the crafting, smithing, building etc.
Here's a thought: Get a group of like minded people together to either form a guild or some form of team that you can work with, that is not affraid to take action against offensive players.
The only problem I have with anyone playing this game, is if they start crying "griefing, griefing". IF YOU COME TO DF THEN KNOW THAT NOT ONLY IS IT A POSSIBILITY BUT ALMOST A DEFINATE PROBABILITY THAT YOU WILL BE PK'D AT SOME POINT.
Other wise please don't come and try to get the world nerfed for the rest of us.
Edit: and by "you" I mean ANYONE. Just wanted you to know, OP, that I was not talking to just you, lol.

There has been a lot of info shared about Darkfall, you just have to look for it lol.
RP will not be uncommon, RPers love sandbox games and I'm sure finding a clan that RPs and controls a player city will not be hard, and it'll be fun since the whole city will be full of RPers as well. There are also a lot of lore play guilds and RP guilds that plan on doing PvP and other stuff too.

Im a roleplayer and i choose Darkfall (sandbox) over WAR and LOTRO anyday.

There fixed it for ya
As for the "RP community will not be uncommon" i've been part of Forumfall for roughly a year or so and i can say that i was more impressed with the content of my handkerchief the last time i blew my nose than with what dwells in that place. So here www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/217136 this should give you an idea what you're up against , hell , feel free to go crazy and search it yourself more before you stick your head in the wolf den. Just don't say that nobody gave you the "heads up"....... Darkfall has the potential of a great game but it lacks the community that will support it correctly, among other things....

Well said that man!
As for RP'ing, I suspect that that will be more in evidence in Darkfall a couple of months after release....initially it's likely to be absolute carnage.
Hmmm....that is unless you count RP'ing a ruthless psycho killer looking to butcher newbies as soon as they set foot outside of town - there's bound to be at least a handful of fools doing that.

I guess there will be RP in DF as in UO, but you have to be able to defend yourself. You have to chose a race, and by doing that you are the target of 2/3 of the none RP server. But you can RP whatever you like in DF.
UO had lots of RP and they fought well too.
-There were RP muderers who claim dungeons and we had to pay to farm there,
-There were RP orks who gave us a friendly warning to leave if we trespassed or they killed us.
-Some RP claimed islands and kill us if we trespassed
-They had fighting schools for newbies
-They build citys and defended those
-They joined factions
Roleplayers in UO made it more fun to play, but they fought back when some tried to grief.
Good quality RP is a rarety in the big MMO titles, or so my friends say, I've never been into that sort of thing myself. The word is that some unofficial UO shards offer the best RP experience you'll find in any game, but like I said, I don't know anything about that myself.
I think RP in Darkfall will happen mostly inside guilds dedicated to it. Here is a RP section in DF forums, several... stories or whatever you call them, going on and here is a list of RP clans waiting the game become reality. So looking at all that, I would say there will be some RP in Darkfall.
No rp servers but there are some hardcore rp clans joining Darkfall.
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
I'd imagine its easier to roleplay in a sandbox game - with pvp consequences.
Though really I've never rp'd, just know that alot of rpers are looking forward to Darkfall for that reason.
Take a look at oficial Darkfall forums, there is one for RP. We don't have a RP server by now but looks like the RP comunity will choose one as unofficial RP server (Like always, heh).
Looking towards to it myself aswell. Other than the fun RPing, usually some RP guilds tend to organize a lot better (ranks, events, guild duties, etc...) than non-RP ones when they choose a theme for the guild, like anti-PK guild or even a PK guild.
Not saying non RP ones are worse, don't get me wrong people.
Yeah I havn't played many games where RPers are anything more then some random kid who walks up to you speaking in an apparent jamaican accent pretending to be a cat.
I'm looking forward to see how RPers turn out on a massive scale with clan warfare and stuff. Because I know for a fact a pretty hefty amount of people on Darkfall forums are planning on RPing.
hehe just read through the NOOB comic to see a RPers place in DF.
It was of course written for the older games, but it looks spot on tbh
Of course you can RP in DF, you can RP in any game, just form a like minded guild and play your own way. If you don't wanna hear what others say, especially smack talkin PKs, just /ignore them and fight them anyhow on silent, and turn your public channels off.
If you build it, they will come, so to speak.
You could probably try to RP, but I wouldnt try typing in messages to act it out. It would probably be better to RP using your pvp skills.
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
everyone will be roleplaying, not just nerds with huge imaginations.
Stop it Farthor134, we shouldn't go through the neverwind pass! thieves and murderers are known to walk that ground, let us go through the woods and keep to the shadows! We do not want to be seen by any wandering eyes, make fast for the safe city of earelas, my cousin owns a pub there.

its a sandbox game.. how could an RPer even consider WAR or LOTRO over a sandbox game?
Remember Old School Ultima Online
Kind of hard to RP when you get pk'd and get the inevitable "J00 Got rox'rd Newwb" "You suck, go back to WoW" "Lul" "I raped you" "Owned"
duh..

rp is best done in a sandbox game, b/c there EVERYONE is Rping and the world is constantly evolving. When people RP in an imaginary world, they expect there to be thieves and murderers that you have to avoid. If you don't want murderers in your RPing... well that's selective RPing, and I'm sure they would be happy in WoW in that case, there's no player run cities, player created laws, mob AI, mob migration and settlement of an area and blacklisting, and no sense of danger in traversing the world. But on the plus side, they won't get ganked RPing in WoW.

True because we all know there is nothing like true RP where after you kill the same toon for the 20th time you meet them again for the 21st battle. Even in a FFA PvP sandbox game the RP is selective.
You want true hardcore PvP RP? Delete your toons after each death and start again.
Yeah, I thought so.

lol DF is like 20000000000 steps forward in the right direction, don't jinx it. Maybe perma death will be the next step forward (not my taste) who knows. This game isn't designed around perma death though, so it will never work, a game CAN be designed around perma death, where character progression is done more through knowledge of the wolrd and player skill than from character skills, levels, and gear, and you can continue playing from your son and daughter or something and get some inheritance kept in a guild city, if you had one. Or something like that, agian, not my cup of tea.

Well, this is why I said, eariler in this very thread, that ignoring idiots and turning channels off would be a great help to RPers. If they do that then RPing is as viable in DF I would think as any other mmorpg out there.
At least try to act like people have posted stuff before you.
Please stop giving idiot trolls reason to respond, unless you actually are one? I would hate to judge you.

Except that, it won’t happen. That’s two types of player bases, which do not mix. Its not that the game system, or game itself won’t allow it. It’s the Community around this game.

Its not hard at all unless you lack imagination. Speaking to the OP, yes there will be RP in Darkfall, probably quite a bit of it, as sandbox worlds are superior for the playstyle when compared to WoW/WAR/LotRo/everything else.
The PKers will probably drive off casual roleplayers, but those who truly want an immersive experience will probably find it here, and in similar games.
