Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning: Recruit-A-Friend Program

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

Mythic Entertainment has announced a Recruit-A-Friend program for Warhammer Online where players can earn game time by bringing a friend into the fold.

Recruit-A-Friend To Join the Armies of WAR

The Realm War continues to rage and the armies of Order and Destruction are always on the lookout for new recruits. Do you know a brave warrior that could bolster the ranks? You could earn 30 days of free game time when you recruit family and friends to join the battle in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning!

Here’s how it works:

* When you become a paying subscriber to Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, you’ll receive 3 recruitment notices to share with friends or family. For each month you continue to subscribe, you’ll receive another recruitment notice (for a maximum of 6 at any time).

* Send a recruitment email to a friend or family member from the Account Center. This will allow your recruit to create a trial account for seven days of free play. Unused referrals expire after 30 days and will revert back to your pool of available referrals.

* When your recruit becomes a paying subscriber to WAR, you will receive a credit for 30 days of free game time. Stay tuned for more exciting recruitment rewards in the future!

Why is this viewed as being desperation? Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Sure it's a way to try and get more players into the game. Why is that desperate? I thought that was the goal of a company like Mythic. I mean a day on the forums doesn't go by that we don't hear about the 12 million or whatever subs WoW has. So correct me if I'm wrong but I beleive that's the point of this business. So Mythic comes up with a different idea of how to do that and that makes them desperate. Oh well , good for Mythic and good for the people who like playing WAR.

Ya World of Warcraft does this as well (you get free mounts and stuff I believe, and the 2 levels for 1 deal) and same for Lineage 2 and all other MMOs, it is a nice way to get more. Hope it helps WAR out.

7 day free plays don't work, you don't have time to get the feel of the game.  Minimum for me to try a game is 14 days, any shorter and it is not worth the download.

Although I am sure there are a million people chomping at the bit for one of these trial keys, if anyone had an extra I would love to see what the game is like. I have actually heard a lot of good things recently and I am very interested in taking a look. Send me a pm for email information. Thanks.

There is a thread in the Warhammer Online forums (on this site) where you can get keys.

I like this program, although agree it should be 14 day free trial. I know that the chance at getting a free month out of the deal will make me put out passes once a month when I get em.

This is a good idea for Mythic to try and get players, I definitely agree with that statement. If you read the offer, it's a SWEET deal for any existing Warhammer paying customer. Reading that offer, as long as a player continues to get others to join, he can play free forever.

So as long as the original customer peddles his trial offer (he gets 3 to start, and one each month after that) and at least one guy becomes a member, he plays for free. The original guy gets a free trial to pass out each month, so if he can have someone pay their subscription each time, he plays forever free at Warhammer Online.

This is really a good move on Mythic's part to let the customers do all the work sending out freebies and recruitment. It's why on the Warhammer boards you see people just giving these things away free like candy right now.

And thats exactly WHY it seems desperate. The game is only 3 MONTHS old and they have to give away free stuff. And they aren't just giving away free keys like other games for people to try or not try.. they are getting existing players to pass them out and give them 30 days free play each time someone bites. After only 3 months, that does not sound good for the health of the game. But it IS a great marketing tool to try and drum up customers. After all, it IS a business.

While this is a good marketing move to bring in more subs on the cheap, it does smack more of desperation than "transfers" the 30+ servers did. It's saying in an offway that Mythic is unable to move the game on their own and must relay on the current subscribers to do it for them.

They really need to add things like guild keep ownership and server stability instead of free things. Warhammer's problem has not been getting subscriptions... it has been in KEEPING them.

There is nothing desperate about a business making money. Where the desperation lies that you speak about is in the players hoping for someone to activate and give them that free month. This is a marketing tool as you plainly said, and is what business's do to make, wait for it..............................., MORE MONEY! There is no desperation in that. If there is, then tell me what you would do, if you owned a business, and it being christmas time, wanting to bring in more cashflow, in an ecomnomy that is still in recession? =)

I dont see how its desperate considering there's tons of people that want to try the game but not risk the money for the disks.    Its a common business model...offer a free trial....this is a controlled method instead of jus thanding it out to every gold seller on the planet.  EQ2 does it. Wow does, it aoc does it etc etc etc....seriously Ahiles sounds like your desperate lol

    EDIT: Got an invite thanks!

  • popinjaypopinjay Member Posts: 6,539

ANy one have an invite still? I installed and activated my copy to give a friend one and I do not have any invites. His email is lordofzhentilkeep AT yahoo com. It would be much appreciated as we wanted to try it out together.

There is an thread where they are giving these trials out in the Warhammer forums on this site. Click on those and post your request there for a trial. Someone should have one there for you.

Tough to get a trial in the General Discussion section.

Why not just make a free 14-day trial?

Whats the point of making it a pain in the butt to try out the game if you don't know anyone who plays?

More people trying out the game = more subscribers.
