I think - therefore it is of my opinion that paying attention to the well articulated and presented posts I highlighted and pointed out reflect my opinion in relation to what the OP was asking for.
For me they stand out as accurate and new information based on new recent experiences and not ones several months ago.
And again.. you make it seem like the game has completely changed in the past couple months. They added a little content at endgame, and they removed a lot of bugs from the client. But the majority of things that players hated back in June are still in the game.
1. Itemization is still a joke
2. Endgame doesn't exist. There isn't progression or content.. just random pvp with no purpose.
3. The game is heavily instanced with loadscreens everywhere.
4. The world is very boxed in, with no freedom to explore.
I don't know how many other games you follow, but the patches that have been added to AOC are nothing special, and they certainly don't mean that everything negative with the game from this summer should be discounted. The biggest 'addition' to the game in the past 4 months is that they've mostly gotten rid of random client crashes.
So if you had your way, two things should happen
1. Every person should buy the box to try it out
2. Only people who resubscribed in the past month should be able to give their opinion of the game

I am with Avery on this. So many specific posters are on an agenda to slam the game at all possible costs.
There is no doubt that the only one who can tell you if this game is good or not is you OP.
My straight up opinion is the game has merit. It also is not perfect. It still needs the merge and the stats for items and armor as well as itemization need work. Yet, the fun to be had is there and worth the time...
Think on this, NO MMO is perfect, except for the closest game to perfection...WoW.
And why is WoW perfect? Because it has the subscribers to back up that opinion. That game will also have it's dissenters, but when 11.5 million still play, there must be something of worth there.
Same for any game. If someone still plays, there must be a reason, and something must be good about the game.
So, until they decide to shut down AoC, your best bet is to find it somwehere cheap, buy it, try it, and please come back and state your feelings cohesively about how you felt the game worked for you and this way all opinions can make a difference.
And again.. you make it seem like the game has completely changed in the past couple months. They added a little content at endgame, and they removed a lot of bugs from the client. But the majority of things that players hated back in June are still in the game. 1. Itemization is still a joke

1) End game exist in the state it does for most games that are only 6months old. There is progression, the end game raids, at least t2, are meant to progress the central story line. Does there need to be more end game things added, yes.
2) Itemization is only a problem for thoes people who like "phat loot." Some people perfer skill>gear games. Yes, it does need some work, but I wouldn't say its broken at the core. This too is getting fixed to be more in line with what the "masses" want.
3) Instancing is a problem a lot of people have; however it is the trade off we get for having the graphics. There is freedom to explore, but there are some invisble walls around and you can't climb every mountian. If this is a game break for you, you won't like AoC.
@Rohn: You should add "In my opinion" to the end of your post. @Azrile: It is quite different once you leave Tortage, but I belive the smartest thing to do would search for a few guides to help you out. It's easy to lose yourself after Tortage.
I wasn't really referring to that, I was referring more to just the polish of the game. Tortage is well polished, the rest of the game is really just thrown together
You should not listen to Azrille he is a mega Troll, the only thing he seems to do is troll, i heard that he goes from forum to forum and trash talk about diffrent games and he tryes to get people to quit there game and join WOW.
And his comment about AOC, is just thrown together after lvl 20, is pure BS.
The irony in this is extremely delicious. More oregano and I'd make it the main entree.

1. Itemization is still a work in progress with changes are up and coming in several patches from now. If you think AoC’s itemization is a joke clearly you weren’t playing your precious WoW when it was only 6 months old.
2. Endgame does exist and there is plenty of endgame content. The only issue is raid instances are on a weekly cooldown. So once a boss is downed… you have to wait another week before you get a chance to kill him/her again.
Here is a list of endgame PvE content
Onyx Chambers, Atzel’s Fortress, Epic Kheshatta, Caravan Raider Camp are group instances which drop Tier 0.
Vistrix’s Lair, Yakhmar’s Cave, Kylikki’s Crypt are raid instances which drop Tier 1.
Black Ring Citadel is the raid instance which drops Tier 2.
3. Yes, the game is instanced but that is the price you pay for such amazing graphics. If your computer is a solid machine then it will blaze right through the loadscreens to the point where you will not even notice them.
4. Okay so you cannot climb the highest mountain… But the game has huge detailed zones which you can explore for hours.
The comment on the patches is just plain uninformed… Like all you trolls seem to be. Clearly, your information is outdated as you played in… beta if you even played at all.
Trolls are welcome to give their opinions but honestly do you really think anyone takes them or their opinions seriously? When a potential player asks about a game, they do not want the opinions of people who played that game months or years ago. They wish to know the state of the game now and not of how it was in alpha. If these potential players wanted to know the state of a game in alpha then they would have asked you when in was in alpha state.
Most of the trolls on these forums have missed their windows. It’s time to move on to another game or resubscribe if you want your opinion of a game (in it's current state) to be valid. Otherwise, you are a joke to the community.
Yes, if a MMORPG that had +20 servers going down to around 5... then it's not a good sign.
My suggestion is to not buy it. Or you will do same misstake like me and spend money on crap and just get angry.
With AoC, Funcom changed name to Failcom.
Do I need to say more?
Played: From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.

No need to say anything more. The Failcom avatar tells us all we need to know. lol
Yeah, but the fact remains that the game currently has 4 (maybe 5) servers that will be 'left' when the devs ever figure out how to make server merges work. There is a reason 80+% of servers are being closed down, it is because 80+% of players have quit the game. And there is a reason why so many people quit. Because the game is not good. Fixing the client, and adding small amounts of content is not going to 'fix' AOC. The whole lipstick on a pig analogy was never more accurate than with AOC.

I take this information is as reliable as that post about how FC would be bankrupt by Christmas this year. lol. If you don't mind I think I will wait till they actually do the merge to comment on the number of servers. By the way, when you say 5 servers, is that with or without the freshstart servers. lol.
I've always said Funcom would be out of business by the end of January.. never said Christmas. Read their 'special meeting' minutes from Dec 19th
Dude why tha hell would i read a meetingreport? I am a gamer and I ain't wasting time reading bullshit reports. Anyways, we all know that you upgraded your January doom to Christmas this year. You know that too of course, you just conveniently forgot it.I am very tempted to blast one of my buddykeys on you. Would have been very fun to play with you in AoC so you could get to learn why you are wrong and why I grade AoC to 10/10.
OP,don`t listen to the whiners who have not played for months.Get a cheap copy of the game and try it.They are pissed because they believed the hype and now they are like those dumped boyfriends who dedicate their life to ill talk about the girl who dumped them.
We all know that the game had lots and lots of issues but that was then all that matter is now.The main problem of AoC is population and we hope server merges will fix that.I have never had a crash since starting playing.
I purchased the game recently and with my level 31 PoM,I`m enjoying the game which should I say has a great story and very immersive.I`m playing on a PvE server to be able to enjoy what makes the world entertaining.I hope FC will find a way to prevent ganking while players are talking to npc on PvP servers.
Honestly AoC is better than a lot of MMOs on the market and I don`t think the bashers will come back and I don`t think the community want them back but there's still new players such as yourself and I and others who've been waiting for FC to fix the game.
Someone said in another post "A Pig with a lipstick is still a pig" I agree but there's nothing more annoying that having a parrot repeating the same thing all day long day after day after day.
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
I like the game a lot and now I can do that without being bothered with the bugs that were in at launch. The game performs perfectly and we have even started to see some extra content patched into the game (like PvP consequences, The new areas in Ymirs Pass, etc etc...). It's really getting there now and I am not the only one thinking that. IGN.com just hosted a vote for Game of the year 2008 and AoC came in as #2 with over 2100 votes. That have to mean that some things are getting right. ve3d.ign.com/poll/results/237/2008-Game-of-the-Year I recommend this game.
As pointed out above, that poll is worthless. It allowed people to vote as many times on it as they wanted, which was happening so badly they had to restrict it to registered users only.
While they've polished out many of the bugs, the game is still very shallow and linear as an MMO goes.
Not to mention people who talk about bugs that were in at launch but never played at launch. The fact that they registered , some of them with multiple active accounts, after being directed to by AOC forum mods or devs and then point to polls obviously weighted heavily by massive fanboy voting campaigns is just a little too much. If they would go to the trouble to create multiple accounts here to spam these borads they surely would vote multiple times until the voting system was "fixed"
Of course the hater will be accussed of balancing with negative votes but the problem is they didnt get the memo since they dont frequent the AOC official boards since they cant post and wouldnt have known.
I left WAR for this game. I don't regret on that. AOC is a VERY well made game, with more potential than any other MMO out there. I think we all saw some of that when "Ymirs Pass" came out.

Yes, because no other game has ever released a new (and sorely needed) zone....
Strangely enough, they had to add Ymir's Pass because it was a POORLY made game, missing quite a bit of content. And they have a lot more they still need to add, in content, itemization, GvG, character depth, etc.
I'm just the opposite - I left AoC and started playing WAR, and am glad I did. I'm also surprised I did, because as a tabletop wargamer, I really don't like Games Workshop. Fortunately, WAR is just a game uses their IP, and not their business practices.
This is a common claim from fans about their chosen game, but since you've said it here, could you elaborate on why AoC has more potential than any other MMO out there?
