Too Late?

Knived11Knived11 Member Posts: 262

well, is it too late to join EVE, i mean so many ppl on there are veterans, its gonna be impossible for ppl to catch up to them, but is it too late to join?

There was a relatively long thread about this a couple days ago. I think the consensus is that it isn't too late. If you are interested in pvp they have a new "faction warfare" system where you supposedly aren't completely gimped against veterans.

it's too late to join eve and have fun today, just as much as it's too late to join wow with a lvl 1 (they have a lvl 80 cap), or eq with a lvl 1, or coh with a lvl 1, or any game out there that you'd have to start with a brand new character.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I have a new metaphor for this:

Asking "Is it too late to join EVE" is like asking "Is it too late for me to get a drivers license?"

After all, since other people already have had their drivers licenses and maybe even cars *gasp* for a long time, they'll automatically be better drivers and get where they want to go faster, safer, and with less effort then you'll have to put in during the driving lessons.

...So no, it's not too late. Be prepared to put in a bit of time to learn the game tho, and to build your character. Nobody's a vet straight out of the box (which is what some people seem to expect to be for some reason). Once you learn how, then you'll be able to do it, too.

Not true.  I still hop back into EvE every now and then for a month.  And, though I never thought it would happen, I've just signed up for WoW -- starting the game for the first time.

um, what i was saying is that if it too late to make a new character in all the other MMOs; then it's too late to make a new character in Eve.

Its never too late and fun is what you make it.

The expansions (which are added at no extra cost) add new things all the time so theres always something to do. Why are people so worried about being competitive? Why not just go with the flow? I never did the tutorial however I am a "cough"veteran" "cough".

Its not how much isk you have that counts, its what you do with it. I had 2 and half billion isk and spent all of it. Now I am at 500 million again. People who are worried about being podded in high sec etc shouldn't.

I have lost millions before. Am I angry? Sometimes. In the end however I know its my fault and that by taking risks that is bound to happen.

If you will just let go of the concept that you "need" to catch up to the veterans to have fun and be competitive, then you'll find out that its not too late to start playing EVE.

    Ungh... why do I bother.
No, it's not too late. Why the hell does everyone keep asking this silly question?

Mostly because in most other MMOs it IS too late to start if they've been out for a few years.  Even if you do start, you're going to be alone for a very long time until you get to higher levels and can group with people.  In EVE, from what I've read, even noobs with frigates can have some role in a corp (whatever that tackling thing is...).

Now Taram...  I know you already know this but:  From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_Internet

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

This.  This is why I do my best *not* to get annoyed with the fact that as soon as this topic drops off the front page of this forum, someone else posts a new one.

Eve requires patience, planning, research, risk management, and a good nut cup.  It's rough on new players - not because they lack skills to contribute, but because they don't know the game mechanics.  It's kinda like learning how to play Civ by starting on the Monarch difficulty - easy for a vet (with an alt), but if you're new and have no one to teach you you're going to stumble quite a bit 'till you get the hang of it.

this can sound a troll but is not

asking the catch up thing about eve-online means:
    1) you dont know the basic game mechanics in eve - search yourself or start a new thread and ask real questions
2)you got some "prejudice/mindset" about "old" games - the same lack of knowledge same like (1)
    3) you dont look on eve-online population data if you start today in a year eve-population can get 20%-30% bigger and there will be 20% noobs in game(from your point of view )

i think we should find a good one about this and sticky it... i myself am (wow, officially today) 1 month eve player. and i found out that no its not to late to start eve.

i think i wrote 1/2 a wall of text on this and how i felt it as a rookie who understands that skill points are not what defines a pilot, but what the pilot brings to the greater picture. it is not a solo game, and 1 player can't make the difference. its the groups and corps that will rule the galaxy.
